GGT 143 chainsawed Kudo Tsunoda, not in Gears 3 but for real
Big difference between back then and now is online play. You don't have to go to an arcade to play others, you can just boot up the game and somebody will always be there to play. Not to mention it's cheaper than blowing 50 cents per game, having to drive out to an arcade, etc. The introduction of online play made fighters boom, imo. It doesn't look like they're going to run out of steam anytime soon.
I'm not saying that it looks like anything could go wrong right now, but I think t's probably better for them in the long run if they played it safe. I mean the musical instrument genre of games was booming too and then came to an abrupt end when the market was over-saturated with a constant barrage of releases, at which point Activision killed off all development of their Hero games, but it isn't like they felt that impact full force since they could fall back on all the money they make on COD and WoW.

Eh, I dunno about that comparison, music games and fighters are in two completely different worlds. I get what you're saying, but I don't think they should be directly compared to one another.

Alright how about the Tony Hawk series of games, that was a huge one for Activision as well, and now they've run it so far into the ground it's probably unsavable. Again they can afford to do it since they have cash cows to fall back on.

Basically the history of games is full of examples where over-saturation of a specific genre or series can quickly lead to a radical reduction in the number of people willing to purchase games for that genre or franchise, or are only willing to purchase games which interest them which may be a fairly small number. For instance the recent onslaught of the FPS/TPS games and how many of those tank because only the top tier is continuing to sell well while lesser known games and ones people haven't heard of are ignored. Same goes for MMOs where almost all of them have to go free to play to try and avoid direct competition with WoW (basically WoW has proven that their is only really room for one subscription based MMO when it comes to what people are willing to pay for).

Has this ever happened to competitive games?

Any genre runs the risk of oversaturation. Hardcore fighting game fans aren't the ones keeping fighting games afloat. It's really the mainstream market that determines what sells and what doesn't. That isn't to say fighting games would go away due to over-saturation, but they could go back into a niche if the mainstream gets sick of them. And Capcom is too big of a company to rely on only a niche market for sales.

Duh, I was just trollin' beasty because I know he's trollin' me. Way to suck the fun out of everything. :nottalking:

If you want to sell a game, tailor it to the Mexican demographic. Take a shit in a box and then wrap gold foil around it.

Worked for Saint's Row 2.
MK outsold MvC3 by a good margin.

Capcom should be worried.
I think MK deserved to outsell MvC3. Even with the character DLC, there was heaps more stuff to do with MK above and beyond simply fighting against other people either in one room or online. Capcom has never been about adding a ton of extra stuff to their fighting games but it isn't 1997 anymore and without arcades in every mall, people aren't looking to simply recreate the arcade experience at home anymore.

I'm surprised they didn't put a picture of Jesus somewhere on the box.

I agree. I liked MvC3, but there wasn't much to do outside of run through story mode or play online with busted netcode. MK's netcode ain't hot either, but it had a ton of single player stuff to do and felt like a complete game.

It was on the tortilla included in the CE.

Not buying RE4 HD, because apparently it has slowdown and is missing some visual effects... and it's to the point where the Wii version looks better on Dolphin than the 360/PS3 versions.

But I really want some RE action for after I finish Gears.

Maybe I will play RE5 on PC again.

RE5 is a blast co-op.

They should've just called it Resident Evil: African Extermination. Then nobody would complain about it being Resident Evil. . .FIVE!!

Yo that shit was hilarious. Plus I loved how it turned into Cold Fear at act 6-1.

Cold Fear seriously missed the boat (no pun intended) by like 2 months. It would've been so much better received had they rushed it out the door.

It does have some serious slowdown issues almost anytime that there are more than ten enemies onscreen or when there is more than one explosion at a time, which sucks because it's the only problem I have with it right now. What visual effects are missing? I haven't noticed anything so far.

By visuals meaning that it is a different version compared to the GC and Wii version. When RE4 was ported to the PS2 they changed a good amount of the visuals to compensate for the low powered hardware that was the PS2.

This is me assuming that the RE4 on the PSN is just the upscaled ps2 version. Needs to be the GC, so I can quick turn aim.

Ohhh, I know what you're talking about now. I haven't noticed it being too different so far, but then again I haven't actually played the original, Wii, or PS2 version in a year or two.

My only real issue with the controls so far is that neither of the control schemes feel right to me and the aiming feels too twitchy.

It's my favorite game.

Sorry, Jacob the Heart, but you're mistaken. It's based on the Gamecube version of the game, which we know because the lighting and polygonal models are those of the GC version rather than the dumbed down PS2 release. The cinematics are also real time, indicating that it's the GC version, as well.

The problems with the visuals are that apparently, the specular lights are missing and the bump-mapping is gone...
