Someone recommend me an rpg I can get on the psn store! (Preferably a PS1 classic)
Vagrant Story is a really interesting game if you take the patience to discover everything the weapon creation is capable of. It also has really well done cutscenes for a game of its time, better than MGS had IMO. It's not too long at 10-15 hours either, so it's not so intimidating.

And of course, FF7-9 are great games as well.

Like Panzer said Vagrant Story is a good choice. And I'd second Suikoden. And add Wild Arms (it's super old school, but fun if you like the western setting, plus some of the dungeon puzzles are fairly interesting).
lol, thank you Icie B! ^_^
You're welcome! ^_^

I heard that one was pretty hard. The only JRPGs I've ever played were Pokemon Crystal when I was 8 and 3 hours of Dragon Quest VIII, so I don't want anything too difficult. The 4 I am considering are Vagrant Story (too hard?), FFVI, Chrono Cross, and Xenogears (too complex?). Right now I'm leaning towards FFVI after looking at some screen shots (2D). Also how much do PS1 classics cost on the PSN store?

Vagrant Story is a bit complex, and the timing of attacks isn't so easy, so perhaps not what you want.

FFVI is a great choice, easy to get into and pretty streamlined. Also a classic that should be played if you've missed out on it. I've heard great things about CC and Xeno, but haven't played them myself.

Chrono Cross would be a good choice for what you're looking for, that game is really well balanced so that you never have to grind (because they basically did away with levels) and the difficulty never really felt too hard, it isn't too long either, and the plot is whimsical. The game is super colorful and beautiful too. But FFVI is also an awesome choice (probably my favorite FF game, and tied with Chrono Trigger as my favorite game ever).

Also, even though lots of people say Vagrant Story is a really hard game I didn't find it too hard way back when I played it, it certainly isn't an easy game, and if you fight a boss with the wrong weapon type equipped it can really suck as you needle prick a boss to death... but it still wasn't too hard.

Oh, and avoid Xenogears at all costs, you are not prepared (I don't think I could recommend that game to anyone that didn't LOVE JRPGs)...

Agreed on FFVI since you want something less complicated. Chrono Trigger is also a good choice, although the PSN version may not be ideal because of the load times.

The giant bomb chrono trigger endurance run is the reason I want to buy an old school rpg. So it appears its between Chrono Cross and FFVI. Which one has less grinding? because I hate that stuff (why I stopped playing DQVIII).

Chrono Cross for sure (as I mentioned it doesn't even have levels, basically the way the game works is when you kill a boss you gain a Star Level and those set the caps on how high your stats can increase till the next boss, and assuming you aren't avoiding normal combat you should have stats maxed to the current caps by the next boss (I think it even scales up characters who's stats are fairly far behind (i.e. ones you haven't used) to give them substantially bigger boosts)), FFVI gets a little grindy towards the end of the game because the game forces you to split all the characters up into teams to conquer the final (and another side) dungeon, which means unless you've been leveling up side characters beyond your main team you are probably going to have to power level some scrubs.

Chrono cross by a long shot. If you play your cards right, you'll have your hands full of characters to experiment with also :D

Who here still plays Gears 3 and picked up the season pass?
I've played fighters since SF2 hit arcades, longer if you count shit like Karate Champ.

I kept up on them too. In fact, I care less now than I did 10 years ago. Sad but true.

Maybe 2012 will change that.

See? This is why they need to make GG vs. BB. Then we can decide this destiny.
Me and you both, buddy.
I think we're about the same age and shit, so it makes sense. However, when I went to college, I played a lot more RPG and single player games, since my normal crew I played with wasn't together regularly and online gaming didn't really exist. Then fighting games died for awhile... when they started coming back this gen, the online still is kind of lax and it's just not quite as fun when you're stuck playing online.

When we had arcades here, I'd frequent them as often as I could Shit was a blast, had some good competition. Then they all slowly turned into DDR Parlors and eventually just straight up shut down. They held out until Soul Calibur II time, which luckily all of my friends here got into, so we were the only scene in this podunk ass area.

Online, while fun, isn't as fun as actually sitting in the same room as the people you're playing, or bumping elbows with randoms at an arcade. Which is why when I do play online, it's usually somebody I know or have known online or off.

And I think you're just a bit older than I am. I'll be 31 in 2 months. :oldman: But random people tell me I look 24, so all's good.

Started up Metroid: Other M. Put 3 hours or so into and I'm mostly enjoying it so far. I have pretty low expectations for the shitty reviews and getting it for $4.99.

Only gripe so far is the camera angles suck, and it's a bit awkward playing a 3rd person 3D game with the Wiimote turned sideways (really needs an analog stick).

Real talk, my friend has been with his girlfriend for 5 years. She saw a picture of us back in high school. She said "Who's that, he's pretty cute." points to me in the pic. She's never seen me without facial hair. lol I laughed when he told me that.

Lies. Your beard is older than you.

Sounds about the same as out here. In high school I had a crew of two buddies who would hang at my place after school and we'd play Tekken 3 or Mk Trilogy at the time when we weren't trying to do our homework like good nerds.
When I was a bit younger, I used to love Christmas because I'd get the little Time Out token booklets where you got like $6 in tokens for $5 or whatever. I used to blow them all on MKII and MK3 and SSF2T. When I was a bit younger than that, I'd get dropped off down at school and there was a little pizza place across the street from the where the buses pulled in. They had a SF2 machine and I used to be able to beg 0.50 off my mom. I had to get good, because I didn't like watching when I ran out of money... I used to go over there after school too and play if I still had any quarters left from the morning. ^_^

I want to furnish my place (finally after 6 months) and am back in the market for a good affordable LCD/LED 32 inch to 42 inch HDTV and a decent affordable sound system (around or under $100 I'm fine as long as it dosn't wash out sound). Preference for fighting games to work good on it but not needed since it'll be more for watching movies and hooking my 360 up to it... ie the party system

3D TV maybe? meh... I'd probably want to only play Child of Eden in 3D

any links? I hate buying these things

Damn, I played 25 hours of Ass's Brotherhood in 2 days. And I'm almost done with the main storyline.

Gotta keep my shit coordinated. When maxed out, 1080p 60 FPS, 8x AA, game looks pretty decent. ;)

Yeah, sounds pretty much what my childhood was. :bouncy: High school also, we played so many multiplayer games too, not just fighters. We rocked peeps in Goldeneye.

I miss arcades.

Thanks so much for the gifts Frosty! You are the best! And you're right, the Puzzle Agent games do seem right up my alley.

Fuuuuck. I think Skyrim has caused burnout from gaming. I have a ton of shit I *should* be playing, but I have no desire to touch any of it...

Disc Based:
 • Sly Collection
 • Tomb Raider Collection
 • Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
 • Batman Arkham City [Challenge Maps, New Game +]
 • ICO
 • Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare
 • Dead Space 2 [Hardcore run and Hard run]
 • Just Cause 2
 • Eternal Sonata
 • Sengoku Basara
 • Bioshock 2
 • Vanquish [Challenges]

And of course, the fighters I have:
 • Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3
 • Super Street Fighter 4 AE 2012
 • Mortal Kombat 9

This isn't even counting things I was playing on Steam (like Sonic Generations and Warhammer 40k: Dawn of Retribution II) or PSN/XBLA releases (Radiant Silvergun, Guwange, Sonic CD, all of the PS+ stuff).

:|

I've kinda been in that mood too. I've been slowly picking away at bastion. Turned to reading for a while as well. Luckily the steam sale hasn't been too killer on my backlog.

The steam sale added Sonic and Dawn of Retribution II to my list of things I want to play sooner rather than later -- I've picked up a bunch of games for $

Yeah, I haven't been in the mood to play anything lately either. The only reason that I've played anything lately is because someone else wants me to play with them. It's fun playing with others, but if I'm not playing in a group then I just have no drive to play.

I'm actually in the mood to play for once and frustrated I still don't have my Live account back with games like Skyrim and Batman gathering dust on the shelf!

Glad I picked up the Wii so I at least have some games to play while waiting this out.

I'm confused why is not having Live preventing you from playing those games?
I'm confused why is not having Live preventing you from playing those games?
Any achievements I earn while playing offline will get overwritten when I have to recover my Live account when they are done with the investigation.

Since my account was migrated to another country, they have to rebuild it to the point it was when it was stolen, and recovering that rebuilt account overrwrites any offline progress you made in the mean time.

Those who just had points stolen/CC charges, but didn't get their account migrated, can (I think) game offline and have the achievements sync up when they get their account back. Those accounts don't have to be rebuilt, they're just locked down while investigating the fraud and refunding the charges and changing passwords etc. So that's just a matter of changing a password basically, so no account recovery/overwriting.

I see, I guess I don't care about achievements enough to have it prevent me from playing a game I really want too.

Like if it was my dilemma with playing Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 when PSN was down there by preventing me from getting the free DLC that lets you pick what happened in the first game and directly effects the game, ya I could see that being a problem; but magical e-peen points don't mean a lot to me.

I'm mixed on that. I partly don't trust them that the game saves will still work. I'm worried that if achievements get overwritten when recovering the account that game saves may as well. And I'd be pissed if I lost progress in games. I care less about achievements than risking the game saves getting lost, but would still prefer to wait and earn them. I don't care what my gamerscore is, but I like having that record of what I've played and done in each game etc.

In any case, I have the Wii to play in the meantime. So far I've played Zelda Skyward Sword and NSMB Wii which were both great. Now I'm onto Metroid Other M which I'm liking so far, and have Kirby's Epic Yarn on the shelf. So it's not like I'm not gaming at all. I'm more just frustrated with how long MS is taking in resolving migrated, hacked accounts. It's been over two months, and from the Xbox support forums those who've gotten theirs back had 3-4 month waits--with a few who are still waiting even beyond that length.

Thanks for the gift icebeast! It looks sweet.

---

I've been playing a lot of Skyrillex lately. Been pretty addicted to it the past couple days, so other than Steam games for winter achievements, I haven't played much else. I really should get back to Uncharted 3 though.

It's been dirt cheap on some sales for the console versions lately as well. If you don't have time for it, you should have no problem getting it cheap later on.

I was pretty burnt out on games halfway through 2011. Now I'm back in that shit hardcore it seems.

Shit happens, sometimes you just need a break.

I'm also debating LA Snore, don't really need it, but it looks amusing enough.
