GGT 166: in which we officially intiate shrike and it is sexy

Hmmm, funny story, so back in college a guy broke into our apartment and took a bunch of stuff, I ended up losing my PSP, PS3, and my laptop (I was able to get that stuff replaced through insurance though). Basically we called the cops after we found that out and left one of our roommates to wait for them while we went to the class we had that night, and according to my friend the cops showed up and looked around the place, dusted for prints, and apparently when they got to my room one of the cops said, "They took the PS3 but left the Wii...". So now that is a running joke between me and my roommates from college.

Oh ya, and around the summer of last year (which was about 2 years after it happened) I got a call from the police and they said they had found part of my laptop, the power adapter only, and they said they were fairly sure my laptop was long gone to Mexico. They asked me if I wanted it back, and I was like, "No, it would cost a lot to ship from Washington state to NYC, and I already replaced the laptop through insurance. Plus, I don't need a power adapter with no computer." So they told me they would dispose of it.

Anyone see the rumour that THQ is pretty much bankrupt and has cancelled all 2014 and beyond projects?
This has been largely hinted at by THQ by their recent loss of developers and IPs. They also had that recent re-branding to try to usher in a new era for THQ after having one of the worst years financially in 2010.

Kingdom of Alamur was once a THQ game done by Big Huge Games, which is now apart of 38 Studios. SWTOR is Bioware, but it is actually Bioware/Mythic. Mythic was the team that made the Warhammer Online game.

Poor reviews on Homefront was basically a done deal on THQ (because of how much they spent on making that game). Saint's Row the Third seems like it was well reviewed, but other bad games just doesn't help. THQ announcing that they plan to drop the Red Faction franchise after completely changing Armageddon from the fan favorite of Guerrilla. Plus the UFC games have been well, non-improved yearly games.

This sucks, namely because THQ is set to publish the South Park game by Obsidian. I need my South Park RPG.
The Crotch is a mystery. Either that, or he's secretly Dr. Mario Kart.

Wonder how this will play out... personally, the only THQ published game franchise I can think of that matters to me is Darksiders. So long as that gets handled properly, I'm good.
I would be sad to see Saints Row go away. Funny if THQ went belly up and Dana White/UFC had to go groveling to EA for future UFC games. Also makes me wonder where WWE goes.
Explain yourself!

Nah, I'm not as big on fighters. And I don't have an ideological opposition to digital distribution.
I didn't think DMK was huge on fighters, though he was big into the Super Smash Bros. franchise (and Nintendo in general). Anti-HD, Anti-online, etc.

I always think of you as the old school gamer with PC only -- so the fact that you have or had a Wii was surprising to me. :p
They have the 40k License and the Dawn of War franchise. Also Red Faction.
I'm not huge on the 40k/Dawn of War franchises yet, but Dawn of War has potential. So that was currently an afterthought to me. I don't give a damn about Red Faction (or Saint's Row for that matter either). :p

That's a franchise I'd be happy to see die. I loathe that franchise so much after Saint's Row 2. Someday I may buy Saint's Row 3, if Steam sells it to me super cheap, so that I can maim a digital CheapyD.

Yeah, he definitely is. And pretty damn good at them. (SFIV, MvC3), arcade sticks and all.

I didn't earn that 'win 5 ranked matches' trophy myself. ;)

Damn, man. It's January 15th. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. This is the first time all winter I haven't been able to look out my window and see fucking grass.

Oh? I thought his opposition to HD was specifically because of its effects on fighters. Maybe it was just Smash Bros. EDIT: Dallow says no.

Here's how it goes. I prefer playing games on my PC. This is a Fact, Known and True. So I will play Mass Effect on my PC. I will play Fallout 3 on my PC. I will play Half-Life 2 on my PC. If I have a choice of venue? PC.

Thing is, "games that are also on PC" make up the vast majority of what I really want out of the 360 and PS3 library. Valkyria Chronicles? fuck yeah, had to play that. But beyond that... nothing, really. Like, there's an Xbox under the TV, so sure I'll play whatever the newest Halo is, and I'll enjoy it because it's a well made game. But Halo and Gears and Resistance and Uncharted and God of War and all these other well made games never really... connected with me. I'll play them because they're good and they're available, but no matter how great their quantity, I would never buy a machine specifically for them as I would for Starcraft or Half-Life or something.

So, the Wii. This long-running affection that I hold for games like Starcraft or Half-Life or... or Breath of Fire, it exists for nearly all of the old Nintendo franchises. Maaaaybe not F-Zero. And fuck Donkey Kong. But the rest of their classics? fuck yeah. I mean, I learned to read playing Link's Awakening, for fuck's sake. But these are all things I know will not be ported to the PC. So I got a Wii. About a month after launch, too. And I got one and a half Zelda games, two 3D Marios, two Kirby games, a fucking glorious Metroid (now stolen), a mediocre Mario Kart, a slightly disappointing but still pretty good Smash Brothers (also stolen from me), and a Fire Emblem (stolen).

And now Xenoblade Chronicles is coming out and I know fuck all about it other than tha a lot of people like it and I haven't played a "proper" JRPG - not Fire Emblem or FFT or Valkyria - since... fuck. FFIX? Like, I played a wee bit of FFXII, but that don't really count. No, Skies of Arcadia. That was the last proper JRPG. fuck, man.

So... yeah. The Wii's alright by me.

See, given his seeming hatred for Sony and MS and HD and this whole generation, I figured he was relegated to play SSBM and TvC if that was his thing. Interesting to note that he'll actually play HD consoles for fighters. You learn something new everyday, I guess. Speaking of...

Fair enough. Very logically sound reasoning and I respect that. I used to be that way with Nintendo games; I remember when my N64 was collecting dust and I didn't even remember that OoT was coming out. Wow, that was a fantastic Thankgiving break. :D

Where do you stand on the Wii U so far?
Mana censored me in his blog, I feel so violated.
In honor of what was censored:

Yes, with peanut butter.

I am a spiteful bastard and I know mana will see this eventually. If I make a blog and you comment in it, mana, I'm going to edit all of them to you talking about how much you hate "friend" chicken.

I... don't, really.

I know nothing of it, save for the fact that they've nerfed the motion controls and the pointer and brought in a giant VMU. And... some rumours about it using Origin or something. I'll miss the pointer, I guess.

I just don't pay much attention to "things that are coming" anymore. I loved the first two Mass Effects, but have never entered the Mass Effect 3 thread. The Dark Knight was great, but I have not seen the trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. I went in to Fallout 3 knowing nothing more than "Oblivion's engine; set in Washington this time". I really don't give a fuck that the new protoss units Blizzard was showing off for Heart of the Swarm looked like shit (new zerg stuff was cool, though). And new hardware? I'll start caring when it's more than just a spec list subject to change at any moment.

Holy shit I just read the physical blog. "I couldn't read the eye chart but my vision was fine". Obviously not. smh at cognitive disonance

The Wii Remotes and Nunchuk etc will still be a major part of the Wii-U's gameplay, I suspect.

I'll play something. I got 3S, AE and w/e.

Then get on skype and let's rock, unless you would prefer to use PSN for shit.

Started up Kirby's Epic Yarn this afternoon. Really liking it so far, great graphic style and looks damn good (and not just for a Wii game). Nice, simple platform with a lot of charm. Love how they yarn works into the gameplay.

This evening went to see The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Thought it was great. Love the books and liked the Swedish movies, but this was better.

Saw Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy yesterday. It was alright. Great performances but pretty anti-climatic. Not much of a payoff for a very slow/methodical movie.
Skype would be easier huh?
Yes, this is a new PS3 and I never setup my mic. @_@

This is also rollback hell, but eh... FL to CA, what can ya do?

It was pretty clear from early on - the point at which I exclaimed, "I am a giant walking tank, and you are my pilot!" - that that was an amazing co-op game. Shame my roommate couldn't really wrap his head around the train bits, though.

GG to Frost and Uraizen. As you can tell, I was super rusty (more like I just plain suck in the first place) at 3rd Strike.

Until a new fighting game that interests me, I pretty much don't play FG anymore. Crapcom can just suck it in the first place and nothing good is coming out for some time (WTF Namco? Late 2012 again? There is a reason why Tekken 6 wasn't bought by me until it was free).
Well I'm on Skype if it helps.
It did, need to fix my mic now.

EDIT: Fixed, that was quick.

We couldn't even get off hit confirms with our connection, so I wouldn't even know if you were rusty, lol.

My main monitor is that sweet 23 inch Asus brand, so my PS3 is hooked up to it. I got two monitors, so browser/skype up on the left and gamez on the right. Hence the fast posting and replies.

I ball so hard, mutha-fukas wanna be like me.
