So I just read about people hacking the characters out of SFxT and using them. I guess my question is really about how this act becomes a bannable offense. They presumably bought the game (if they downloaded it, the point is moot) and while they might actually simply have a license to play it themselves (and not to rent it out or anything like that), how can you say that you can play part of what is included on a disc that you bought from us but not everything that is on the disc?
It reminds me of the old, old Quake 1 demo disc that included all of Quake 1 plus most or all of id's back catalog. You were supposed to put the disc in and (if I remember right), call some number with your credit card in order to get a code to unlock the games off the disc. Well Qcrack was a little program that decrypted the games on the disc sans calling id's hotline. It was obviously outside what id intended people to do with the disc, but I (theoretically) already paid $10 for the disc at Best Buy, it sits next to my computer in my house. How can something in that situation not be mine.
