GGT 184 thinks gaming sucks and E3 blew Donkey Kong schlong

I just think hardcore gamers are people who play a ton of games and take gaming very seriously. To me it doesn't matter much what they play, other than it has to be more than simple games like Angry Birds.

If someone is gaming on consoles or PCs and playing full fledged games a ton, and it's their main use of their free time, then they're a hard core gamer.

A casual is someone who plays games, but it isn't their main hobby.

But of course there are matters of degree in how hardcore or casual someone is, but that's just the nature of trying to lump people into two broad categories. It's never a perfect fit for everyone.

I'm with dmaul on this. It doesn't matter if a game is mainstream or not.

I'm not a fan of the term, although I do find those people who tout themselves as "hardcore" gamers and scoff and people who play Madden/CoD calling themselves gamers adorable.

The thing is a lot of people spend more time playing Madden/CoD every year than so called hardcore gamers.

And they're hardcore IMO. Lack of variety in what they play doesn't change that when they're logging hundreds and hundreds of hours gaming.

Again there's the matter of degree. They're not "as hardcore" as someone playing a shit ton of different games, obscure import stuff etc. But they're hardcore compared to someone like me who averages maybe 5 hours a week gaming if that.

So... Lollipop Chainsaw-I do really enjoy Suda 51 games, No More Heroes 1 & 2 were great and I recently got Shadows of the Damned and had a blast with it, but that was REALLY short. If I hadn't gotten it used for about $20 I would've felt jipped, if Lollipop is about the same length, I'll probably wait for the price to drop.

I think I used to be when I wasnt working fulltime and was single-I could regularly finish epic rpgs in two days because I would do nothing else.

Yeah, I was there during high school and for most of my 20s. And now, even with free time, I just find it hard to dedicate a huge chunk of time to a single game. It's why I like fighters, because I can drop in and play for 10 minutes or an hour or more and feel like I got something out of it. Play an RPG for 10 minutes and you're just getting started.

Doesn't mean I won't drop massive amounts of time into a game, I did put 80 some hours into Skyrim recently. But that doesn't happen often anymore.

That's the problem I'm having Hank. When I have like, 45 minutes to kill, I don't wanna start a new RPG, because I know I'll barely do anything in that time. Doesn't mean I don't wanna play them, I just don't have the time.

YOLO by The Strokes just popped in my Pandora. ♪(┌・。・)┌
Exactly. And I have quite a backlog too. I could seriously not buy a game for 2 years and just play shit I already own and be set.
Except it would be impossible to not buy a game for 2 years.

Gotta say, I like the direction some of the new Heart of the Swarm stuff is going.

Now give me back my fucking Carrier, you god damn sons of bitches.

Are you back from the wilderness already crotchie?

I never have enough time to game these days.

But I still keep getting moar games... :p

I've been playing a few games from the PS+ bonus this week:

Virtual Fighter 5 Final Showdown - Not really much to say here, other than I'm trophy hunting. 5 hit combo sucks, as well as the License Challenges.

Hard Corps Uprising - This game is so hard and terrible, but I can't put it down for some reason. Rising Mode is the only way to play the game though, as Arcade is frustrating and unfun as hell. Good thing they didn't put Contra on the name.

Altered Beast - Again, Trophy hunting. This game sucks. Period.

Mario Tennis Open - This game is a definite 'lul' game. Not too challenging but still kinda fun. Except for Pro Ring Shot. The worst part of the game by a mile, especially since it unlocks a character -_-

Kid Icarus: Uprising - I'm officially done with this game after trying to grind hearts, realizing it's not fun to grind in a game that's a blast to play.

Devil May Cry HD - I only played 1 chapter, but so far it's good. I haven't been asked to drop down to Easy like when I played it on PS2, so I guess being in HD makes it a bit easier to see.

The Binding of Isaac - Even though I have a crappy 4-year old laptop, it can manage to run this smoothly for the most part. I just have to shut everything else down before trying though.

God I remember being so psyched for Altered Beast when I got my genesis, then I actually played it...

Ok is Kid Icarus worth it? Every review I've read either damns it for the controls or says it worth it despite the uncomfortable controls so obviously it's a very divisive title. And do you actually use the stand?

Challenges are easy as fuck, just look up the simple combos for your character in the move list and go to town. To get a 5-hit combo easily, just do a wall combo against the AI, it's not hard to push them to the wall.

How is it terrible?
The Laurel UPS center covers a pretty large area in the DC/Baltimore area.
Yeah, it's the main UPS center in Maryland. I remember many of my packages would end up there. Although I'm in VA now, many of my packages still go there.

How the fuck did I miss that? I would love to hear your reasoning as well.

So this just popped up on my facebook feed:

Someone at bing needs to check urban dictionary before they use shit like that

And by terrible, he probably meant mean.

It's not fun.
But why?
Could be because he plays a lot of games for trophies/achievements.
Or could be because he hates quality fun.

I don't know.

Nah, I'm not playing for it for Trophies. I'm just playing it because I wanted to see it. I don't like having to mash fire to shoot faster, I don't like that if I get hit I lose my special weapon, I don't like Arcade Mode. It also seems to be more about pattern recognition than anything else. Plus sometimes they put too many enemies on screen for one player to handle in time.

I'm not a big Contra fan, so maybe that's part of it, but I still find this game to be very frustrating.

I feel the same way. I've played it a few times and I can never seem to clear the first part and it is frustrating to start over and play the same sections over and over again. It may be old school, but there is a reason why those times were left behind.

There sure was!
So it's not terrible, you just don't like it.

Mystery solved.
No, it's pretty bad when there are unclear hit boxes for bosses, no safe area for 18 bullets coming at you at once and random QTE's that cause you to lose lives for no good reason (Seriously, fuck QTE's that do this, especially when lives are scarce as hell).

Newsflash: your opinion isn't fact. What Indignate said is correct. It's not terrible, you just don't like it. And I'm not sure how far you've played, I put it down somewhere around stage 3 or 4 and I do not recall experiencing any of the things you're complaining about.

You said it yourself -- you're not really a fan of Contra games, right? So what I really don't understand is this: why do you keep playing it if it's TERRIBLE? If you don't like the game and think it's terrible, delete it from your PS3. Problem. Solved.
