GGT #40: Gizmo's Great Adventure

i like the part in the ace combat psp quick look where they try to show the online gameplay and there are ZERO people online playing a brand new major PSP release.

Just kill it already

Agreed.

Also, Kinect looks so shitty. I really hope it bombs hard.

The chiptunes in that Kinect GT video sounds like a
keygen.
I hit level 50 last night playing Horde--then realized you had to have the map packs to get the achievement!

D'oh! Oh well, had a lot of fun, and will play some more in a bit. Hate the competitive modes, but Horde is a lot of fun.

I should probably try out the Firefight modes in Halo ODST as well--though may just wait for Reach to get into that.
I actually bought 2/3 of the Gears 2 map packs -- (snowblind, all fronts) -- and was only pissed off about snowblind because if I could've put that money toward all fronts -- however, all fronts was easily still worth it to me, because i got something like 10 maps and the deleted scene.

When I saw they discounted all fronts to $10 earlier this year, I was a bit irritated, but fuck, if you ever thought you'd play gears 2 again, it would be worth it. Gears 2 may have a lot of flaws, but it does a lot of things right, like map packs. (Combustible I thought was a misstep, but they made up for it with later packs and pricing.

hmmm... I'm thinking about picking up Gears of War 2 again. Not for the multiplayer or anything -- cuz I wanna play through the single player mode again. I remember it being excellent... I played that game for like 9 hours straight when I got it.

Yeah, I'm downloading All Fronts now. Playing with some CAGs and want to party up and try to get to 50 in horde on some map pack maps.

I'd been tempted to get All Fronts for a long time, and with the 800 point price now, I figured what the hell. Will be hopping back on there in a couple minutes (99% on download) if someone's game. Only had 4 in our party.

I love me some Gears -- I'm actually thinking of buying the steelbook edition of the original I saw in the mall used the other day... I'm going to check for it tomorrow... if it's less than $20 and in good condition, maybe I will.

The original's single player was not anywhere nearly as good, I felt like. I played through it once and thought it was pretty fun (loved the multiplayer, though), but when I bought it again on the PC, I realized in a hurry that the game was impossibly generic. Gears 2 felt like it was actually designed rather than congealed like the first game.

Oh, you're a haggle man....

5 dollars.

Ho-lee shit Mass Effect 2 was a great ride. There are a few issues but overall, it's probably my favorite game thus far in 2010. Well, that or RDR. Both of them had me thinking about the game, and how much I wanted to play it when I wasn't. That's more or less my criteria for picking the games I really like. Bring on the Dragon Age Origins Ultimate/GOTY edition, I want more Bioware.

fuck, they got rid of the level-up trick in Castle Crashers with the Catfish. I'm gonna have to level up the old fashioned way now. :(

That shit is the stuff of nightmares.

I think all 3 of the console makers are making stupid mistakes, and have been this whole gen. I really hope that they're all learning their lessons for next-gen.

Nintendo ruined this gen. Other than stuff like broken-ass hardware and overpriced consoles, almost everything horrible and stupid that has happened was a result of the Wii's success. Every night I wish Nintendo had stopped making consoles and stuck to portables and 3rd Party Development, saving us all a lot of Skittles.

I thought the campaigns in both Gears games were great--but did like Gears 2 a bit more. More variety in settings, a tad more story, and mostly devoid of annoyingly frustrating parts like the vehicle section and final boss in Gears 1.

Damn great games in co-op especially. Probably my best gaming experiences this generation have been going through both games on hardcore and insane with a buddy in local co-op while pounding beers all night. Tough to beat Gears and beers--can't wait to do it again with Gears 3 in the spring!

I don't really mind that stuff--easy enough to just not bother with it and ignore. At least on 360, don't have a PS3 so I can't speak to that.

The only trends this gen that worry me going forward are motion controls probably being packed in all consoles next gen and thus having them shoehorned into every game. And some things with DLC nickel and diming. Over all it's a good thing when games do it right like Fallout 3 etc. as it can really extend a game. But there are also too many instances of DLC being codes for content on the disc and other crap.

But other than that, this has been a great generation IMO.

I don't mind waggle. I do mind charging for DLC on discs (SSF4 costumes, I'm talking to you) and overpriced avatar accessories. I wouldn't mind if everything was a dollar, but four dollars to look like Ryu? Bitch pleaseeeeeeeeee. I realize I'm part of the problem by saying that, but why not enjoy the features in front of us... right? :'[

A ton of forgettable flavors of the week. Games that are hot for a week, then nobody gives a shit about.

Oh yeah, there are some that are genuinely good, but it's not just about shitty games. Every generation has shitty games. It's all about the market right now, and how greedy every motherfucker is.

Yes, on disc DLC needs to die.

Ass Ass In Creed
Bioshocks
Condemned
Dead Risings
Fallout/Oblivion
The Band/Hero games before their downfall
Mass Effects
Uncharters

Other than the music stuff, all of those were excellent and IMO none could have been done last-gen.

I wish I had that COD/KZ2/MOH picture comparison to show how unique art styles are this generation.

Hint: They're not unique at all

There's definitely been some amazing games this gen, but it seems to have gone back in time in terms of creativity. People rediscovered online gaming as if it didn't already exist, and now you have people giving Halo games perfect scores because....? And now you have fees for things that have always been free, because....? And now you're paying $60 for 8 hour games that only after release get more content for you to shell out for because....?

To be honest, I'm just sick of playing games that feel like shinier versions of things I played when I was 8. The new Battlefield game that everyone is raving over is literally BattleField 2 with less everything and tinier maps -- woah, big next gen leap.

And we should be at the stage where if I hit someone with a sword, their flesh should fucking rip open -- instead of relying on quick time events to do everything developers are too lazy to figure out. We can't even do that and now MS and Sony want to focus on motion control?

Those are games are shitty, stop playing shitty generic games.

Yeah, I've never given a crap about that kind of stuff. Games are mindless entertainment to me, not art, so I couldn't careless if the art style's are unique etc. As long as games look good, are fun as hell to play, and don't have a bunch of technical glitches causing problems I'm good to go.

So, i apparently have some kind of virus, some javascript bullshit installed a trojan or it was infected on the router side from someone else in the house or my old roommate (porn addict, so entirely possible) and it got into my shit.

Time to reformat

I don't think jer is an ms fanboy. Just whenever I want to find jer's opinion on something, I think, "What is the worst possible opinion?"

Eh, I think it has more of an effect than what you're aware of.

A lot of people love killing shit in Diablo II for example, and it's largely because the art of the death animations and everything is what give you the satisfaction of the kill -- not just clicking the mouse and leveling up stats.

No one goes in depth about that though, because when talking casually it turns into, "It's fun to kill things in Diablo II, that's why I like it."

You kill things in a lot of games, but perhaps Diablo II's art, atmosphere, etc.. are what help it so much.

I wasn't saying that graphics and art design have no impact. Just that I don't mind if it's repetitive etc. I'm mean he's listing COD etc--those are shooters set in the real world. They just need to look as realistic as possible.

Others like Gears, Halo, etc. are futurisit, sci-fi settings so they're going to go a certain way in art design.

Games need to look good etc., but I don't care if there's a lack of uniqueness across games in similar settings etc. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

She's busy with "video chats", which idk what that means but I assume it's a lot of nerds pooping themselves over an attractive girl talking to them. Also, that is what the GGT is.
