I don't think my mom could even pronounce a game title.

Everything was "Nintendo" to my parents from the time the NES came out until the Wii launch. Now everything is "Wii."

fucking nintendo
My mom doesn't really know much about games, but having two sons who are pretty into them means she knows at least the consoles that are out. She did play a lot of games back in the N64 era, I remember her playing through DK64 and SM64, and she played through my brother's copy of Super Mario 64 DS a couple years ago.

My dad is fairly into games though, without him I probably wouldn't be nearly as big of a gamer. We used to play N64 together all the time, we played through multiple Splinter Cells switching off the controller, and this past summer we played some God of War when I was up visiting family.

My parents are both fairly young though (mid/late 30s) so they kinda grew up with games more than I'd suspect most of other GGTers' parents did.

I'm about to burn $25 on a MTG tournament, just to get raped. =/

I think my dad gave into my brothers and I's gaming hobbies when he realized how easy it was to make us really, really happy -- as compared to driving out to little league games only to have your kid come back pissed because he didn't get a hit.

mtg?
Actually school wouldn't be nearly as bad if I wasn't working. I'm the only stupid one in my cohort to do that.
"in your cohort"?

What?
"in your cohort"?

What?
Cohort= year of students you enter a grad program with. i.e. the Fall 2010 cohort etc.

Research Psych, Dallow. Going into it I didn't think it would be too bad, but it's an extremely demanding program along with research requirements and I'm a TA for 3 online courses. I'm only working 15 hours a week, but it would still be nice to have that time to study.

And Frost, you never heard of a cohort?

I don't think I've ever heard it called that before.

That might be on the level of universities like Cornell giving out GPAs higher than 4.0.

It's just common in grad school, med school, law school etc.

I'd never heard it used in the academic setting until grad school.

I guess it's because most grad program cohorts are pretty small, and you end up bonding with your class mates more than in undergrad since you have all your required classes with that group.

Doesn't have to be as small as 7 though. My grad program was around 40 in my cohort counting the two different master's programs and the Ph D admits.
Maybe it's only used for smaller groups? How big was your class in grad school, Frost? Mine has 7.
Much larger. I'm not sure exactly though.

2 years of grad school at RPI and I never heard it referred to as that... not even for our little remote group.

Just started playing Enslaved's demo. Better than I was expecting, still iffy on it, though. I really like Monkey as a character though. I think he'd fit well in Soul Calibur or Tekken.

Enslaved looks like they ripped off Heavenly Sword and put the designs on monkeys. I usually watch videos for 5 minutes or so to figure out if it's worth my time or bandwidth.

Enslaved I watched for about 2 minutes and wrote off as "terrible".

All you need to know is it was developed by Ninja Theory. Save your money.
Aren't you tight on how many games you can get? Definitely skip Enslaved.
Yeah, I am, I meant iffy on whether or not I should even play it. I played through Heavenly Sword and at the end of it I felt like I'd just wasted my time. I'm not sure if I'd feel the same way or not about Enslaved though because the demo was like 5 minutes long.

The demo wasn't bad, just not long enough for me to really come to a conclusion. I don't plan on buying it, it may go into my Gamefly Q, though. Defintely won't be buying though.

The platforming was tedious, the combat was essentially ripped out from any run-of-the-mill action title except Ninja Theory decided to slap on an obnoxious camera to make it look more "cinematic." Framerate was a bit chuggy on the PS3, and graphical effects were fairly underwhelming.

I guess since it worked as a functional piece of software, it wasn't technically "bad."

But I didn't care for it personally.

Wanna hear something hilarious? The average framerate for enslaved on PS3 was 27fps. It sure as hell seems a lot worse, doesn't it?
Numbers aside, the game felt like shit trying to play it. It's a Ninja Theory side effect to even 60 fps games.
Now imagine their finished DmC.

I wasn't impressed by Enslaved either. I don't know if they made the girl look like Nariko on purpose, or if they are just really uncreative.

Hope to play some Reach or Alan Wake this weekend.

Those games suck. you should just go replay the Enslaved demo over and over instead.

You wonder about creativity when the big reimagining of Dante was basically their creative director and it took a year to do it?

Well if I had to re-imagine Dante I'd make him me too
