While I stew in frustration, GGT, help me narrow down this list of recent games I want to a smaller number. Which ones can I pass on and which are must-plays?

Alan Wake
Assassin's Creed II
Bayonetta
BlazBlue
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep
Mario & Luigi 3: Bower's Inside Story
Persona 3 Portable

If you've never played a Persona (or missed P3), P3P is a must have. Blazblue is a great fighter, though if you aren't really competitive you might get frustrated when you go online.

Those are the only 2 I've played.

Alan Wake and AC II are must plays on that list IMO. I haven't played the others (not genre's I like) so I can't comment on them. But AW and AC II are fantastic games.

And yes, beat Okami ninja dog! One of my favorite games from last gen.

Don't bother with Persona 3. Just man up and play Persona 4 if you're insistent on throwing away 50+ hours of your life

I love Persona 4.

I don't have a PS2 and besides I do better with huge RPGs on portables. *glares at unfinished FFXIII I started when it was released*

Guess I'll go check the mail room again.

Surprise, nothing!

Ninja doggy, the M&L rpgs are excellent

Nah, not everyone asking necessarily -- i've just come in babbling about it's awesomeness for $40. The only downside is that it's coming out a week after DR2. :(
While I stew in frustration, GGT, help me narrow down this list of recent games I want to a smaller number. Which ones can I pass on and which are must-plays?

Alan Wake -- maybe
Assassin's Creed II -- probably
Bayonetta -- most definitely
BlazBlue -- probably
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep -- no
Mario & Luigi 3: Bower's Inside Story -- maybe
Persona 3 Portable -- if you like that sort of thing
.
bought Okami for the millionth time. I will beat this game some day.
no you won't.

i somehow did it out of sheer determination... one of the few games I *almost* gave up on because i was throughly bored with it by the time it started to wrap up.
Why Chac why
I really feel like Persona 3 is just a worse version of Persona 4. And I hate that if you play the PS2 version, the gameplay is fucked because you can't control your teammates, and if you play the PSP version... well, it's kinda gimped, and AFAIK, it doesn't have the "The Answer" part of the game.

I liked Persona 3 when I played it both in its original release and FES, but Persona 4 basically perfected what that game was trying to do, to the point where I really don't think it's even worth playing P3 anymore.

each rebuy of Okami:

*looks at Okami art book*
"Man, this shit is beautiful. This makes me wanna play the game again! fuck it, I'm gonna track down a copy."
*Gets game*
"Wow, I've got [10, 20, 30] hours into this game. I guess I just got kinda bored."
*pops in game*
"OMG SO BEAUTIFUL, AMAZING, GAMING BLISS, MY FROTHING DEMAND INCREASES"
*2 hours later*
"Alright, well, that was cool."
*goes on shelf for months*
"Welp, there's a trade in deal, haven't played this in a while."
*trade in*
*repeat*

I know after awhile I was (a) tired of the combat mechanics (b) bored with the story and (c) getting irritated witht he artstyle, no matter how nice looking it is.

I have those okami reprint covers they offered to Wii owners somewhere, I just never used them because I sold the game... I knew I'd never play it again, so there was no point in keeping it on my shelves. :|

And I don't know why, but it really fucking irks me that they used that Chibi Robo/Charlie Brown sound for when Issun was talking... :bomb:

P3P plays very much like P4 0_0

It's upgraded in every way. And it's much easier to play through since outside of Tartarus you navigate via menus and 2D screens.
While I stew in frustration, GGT, help me narrow down this list of recent games I want to a smaller number. Which ones can I pass on and which are must-plays?

Alan Wake Eh, maybe
Assassin's Creed II PLAY
Bayonetta MUST PLAY
BlazBlue PASS
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep MUST PLAY, BEST PSP GAME SO FAR
Mario & Luigi 3: Bower's Inside Story PASS
Persona 3 Portable Play at some point.
My Atelier Rorona hasn't arrived yet :( I was hoping to play that today, but I'll probably just end up playing Castle Crashers or Lara Croft.

That's kind of the problem. If they're both identical, why wouldn't I play the better game (which is Persona 4, for any of you smartasses who were going to respond with "Persona 3?")

Yeah, the talking sound gets irritating. I was charmed at first, but there's all that unskippable dialogue.

I wonder if those covers are worth anything? I probably have them somewhere.

Saw that thread posted elsewhere.

To be honest, when the DS came out I was still a Nintendo fanboy (and in middle school, wow), and I really thought it would revolutionize gaming. When I got it the Xmas of launch, I ended up really disappointed--not only were there no games outside of N64 ports, the graphics looked bad (especially compared to the PSP previews), and even as more games came out, the touch screen just became annoying in a lot of them.

So I got the PSP, and for a couple years I played it and enjoyed it way more than the DS. PSP software has definitely tapered off, though, and at this point the DS has pretty much beaten it in every way. But at the time, there was almost NO reason the DS seemed like it would be better than the PSP except in minor things like battery life, so I can understand the NeoGAF thread. It wasn't like they were the only ones saying that stuff; pretty much everyone was singing PSP praises and poo-pooing the DS back then, before the DS became the runaway success and the PSP became a PS2 port graveyard.

That's why if Ocarina is the biggest 3DS launch game they have, I might just wait until more games come out...or for the inevitable 3DS Lite.

---

Still no sign of the mail room opening, so I guess I'm gonna have to wait until tomorrow for DR2. Sucks, but all my classes are before 2 so I can really sink into afterw lunch.

I still prefer the PSP and its library, but I would very much like to get a DS someday -- or just wait on the 3DS lite.

Just don't get new systems at launch, there's really no point.

Same  ... I checked the order status on Gamestop.com and it said backordered; I want my super cute and colorful RPG even if I have no time to play it and seriously need to finish a couple other games first.
While I stew in frustration, GGT, help me narrow down this list of recent games I want to a smaller number. Which ones can I pass on and which are must-plays?

Alan Wake - Maybe
Assassin's Creed II - YES
Bayonetta - YES
BlazBlue - Which one?
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep - Only if you want to play a new KH
Mario & Luigi 3: Bower's Inside Story - YES
Persona 3 Portable - Not if you played P4
My thoughts.

I already played through a bunch of cases in DR2. Suck it, JSP.

Oh yeah, Ass Creed 2 and Bowser's Inside Story are must plays. I'd say get P3P, but like Chac said, it's better to just play P4.

BIS made me sad because it's the closest I'll ever get to playing a full-fledged Bowser game. The Mario/Luigi bits are fun, sure, but the game truly shines when you're using Bowser.

Actually since P3P makes the gameplay equal, for me P3 becomes the better game since I like the darker tone of the story better. Also most of the characters in P4 annoyed me while I liked almost all of the characters in P3. Also something about the portability just makes P3P superior.
While I stew in frustration, GGT, help me narrow down this list of recent games I want to a smaller number. Which ones can I pass on and which are must-plays?

Alan Wake - Pass
Assassin's Creed II - Pass
Bayonetta - Must play
BlazBlue - Must play, only if it's continuum shift
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep - If you like KH, maybe
Mario & Luigi 3: Bower's Inside Story - Maybe
Persona 3 Portable - Pass
That was easy.
So many conflicting opinions!
Yet only one that matters.

Mine.

I always picture people posting here looking like their avatars, with the exception of people I have already seen IRL pics of.
I went and rented DR2 just because JSP can't have it.
I went and bought a copy and then set it on fire. Just because JSP can't have it.
So many conflicting opinions!
Not like it's a huge problem. AC2 can be had for under $20. So can Bayonetta. The rest depends, just get the one you think seems like you want to and collect the others for your backlog as you find them for affordable prices. Hell, Bayonetta is $18, AC2 is $15 right now in the gamefly sale -- tell your mom to order them for you for Christmas. ;)

Actually, I pretty much do the same thing as Beef, and JSP I think of you as Gizmo. Most of you have seen my picture, so I hope you don't think of Anna Paquin when you see me post o_O Oh and The Tester should be airing Nov. 2nd.
