GGT #49 is the same as GGT #48, but now it's Episodic and costs $10 too much
We're doing Top 3 lists?

1. Bayonetta
2. BlazBlue Continuum Shift
3. Super Street Fighter IV
Bravo! :applause::applause:

I want BlazBlue so bad, but I'm leery of GOTY/Ultimate editions and know that the minute I cave, they'll anounce a new version for the same price with all the DLC... :(
Surprised someone hasn't had Alan Wake in their list yet.
Alan Wake would be number 4 for me.
A better way to word it is "Surprised at how many put it in their lists, considering how disappointed I was with the game."
That's fair.

Personally, I wasn't let down really at all. The only thing was the story wasn't epic like the first one, and as I've said before story is a pretty minor factor in my rating of games (matters, but entirely secondary to gameplay considerations). But everything else I found much improved. Shooting much better, more streamlined with not having to micro manage stats and inventory so much, etc. etc. so I enjoyed it more than ME1 which was already one of my all time favorite games.

This is in no way trying to be an ass, but I always like your post's dmaul cause I count how many uses of "etc" there are. Don't know if you realize this but go through all your posts on the various threads.... I'd say you average at least 1 "etc" a post.

Top tree?

1. Dead Rising 2
2. Heavy Rain
3. Scott Pilgrim vs the World

Mass Effect 2 was pretty disappointing, they improved the gameplay and graphics but everything else felt worse than the first game.

Hmm, top 3 this year? Well, I've only finished Heavy Rain, and I liked that. Barely played Bayonetta, SSFIV is meh, I liked what I played of Mass Effect 2, and that's about it for this year that I can remember.

So my top 3 this year that I've played will be. . .

1. Super Metroid
2. Project Justice
3. Under Defeat

Heavy Rain is 4th.

What is this "Costume Quest" everyone keeps talking about?

joke question--I'm so behind what everyone is playing here in GGT. :p

Don't you get like 2-3 new games a month?

I always feel like GotY lists are too early till next year... -_-

So far the only one I know that is in my personal list is SSFIV. Not too much has impressed me this (later half of the) year.

Beat Reach last night... Who writes this stuff??? I felt like I was back in pre-school pretending to play soldiers with friends where its "I am good! oh no, you died, I'll save everyone for you! Oh No! I die! We win!".

It would have helped if they at least gave me time to like the character. The only times I can catch personalities is when everyone is only talking half baked military specifics banter and showing off their short hair or bald head.

Seriously. He spends all day at work on his PC, he shouldn't have to spend more than a few minutes on it at home.

Man gets home, he just wants to crack open a few brews and play some games on his big couch.

You make me want to play Gears now...
I get probably 1 new game a month nowadays and its usually a digital distribution game...

I find myself playing way more digital games than disc now.
How can you find the time to play when you're so busy?

Also, I'd buy an iPad just to play Envirobear on it.

I need to spend at least 400 space bucks for the MS promo. Any ideas? I'm not adverse to spending another 1200 either.

:D That's it in a nut shell. I post quickly in between shit at work or unwinding at home etc. (there's another one for you!) so I use lots of etc., have lots of typos I don't bother going back and fixing etc. (ha!). :D

Indeed! Just got home from teaching a late class, beer is cracked open, unwinding for a few minutes and deciding whether to play some Reach or just watch something on the DVR.
I always feel like GotY lists are too early till next year... -_-
Very true. For me it's hard to make a realy GOTY list until like a year later since there's so many games I play 6-12 months or more down the road when I can get them on Goozex, or the game of the year edition with all the DLC is out etc. (ha!) .
fuck, put that as my 4th, I forgot about it. That game is soooo good.
It's good, but nothing amazing, as much as I love the art and the music... I love it to death but I have no idea where it would land on my list
So I take it that the general consensus is that Costume Quest is worth the 1200?
Yep, it's easily worth that. It's great all around.

More like 14th.

Jk........that game is alright.
Alright maybe my sequel can place in the top 3.
I didn't even make top 5. I think someone was paid off

I kinda want a Windows 7 phone after the rave reviews, especially the great article over at anandtech.com

But.......... I really like my app store purchases....

I think I'll sell my extra 3G and current 3GS and buy the iPad, and sell that and buy and iPad 2 whenever it shows up next year.

mmmm gizmos and gadgets.....
I didn't even make top 5. I think someone was paid off
The sequel to HOME would still be above you.
Well since the last two Killzones were generic ass shooters why would we care
I'll just say that the Halo games are then generic shooters if the above is true.

The GB Quick Look pretty much showed that nobody owned it and the online stuff wasn't that good for finding games to play in.

I guess Telltales games didn't do so well on XBLA since The new Sam & Max skipped it and the new Back to the Future is also not coming to XBLA, just PC/Mac, PSN, and iPad.

I got a code for the Killzone 3 beta, but haven't had the time to redeem the code yet.
You would have to beat my sequel first.
But, but, your sequel hadn't been announced yet; from your comments though it sounds like something is in the works.

We used to be boys, Beef. We used to be boys.

Oh and to Frost (or whoknows? whoever was talking about playing Marvel) I would recommend that you don't continue to pick the Street Fighter characters. Pretty much all of them are terrible (the only ones I would even consider mediocre are Cammy, Dhalsim and Guile. The best of that bunch is probably 'Sim, but he is super hard to use). I recommend starting with a character that is easy to pick up but has a very high upside. A few characters that fit the bill...

- Cable (obviously)
- Rogue
- Storm (highly recommended, she is very user-friendly and has a very high ceiling)
- Sentinel (fantastic character and not TOO hard to at least be semi-effective with)
- Captain Commando (will be used primarily as an assist, but isn't terrible to play as)
- Cyclops (same deal as CapCom)
- Iron Man
- Juggernaut (awesome assist)

The next thing you need to learn is basic bread and butter combos. I know you had mentioned that you just learned about the standard string (lp, lk, lp, lk variations) so try using that to go into your characters launch. For example, with CapCom you might try wp, wk, hk (launch) and then jump up and combo them. If you are unfamiliar with air juggles, you can always end that combo with a Captain Corridon (QCB+B) or Captain Sword (QCF+PP, takes 1 super bar). Some other basic combos are things like wp, wp -> Juggernaut Headcrush. I wouldn't recommend trying to learn advanced juggles and stuff like that yet, just find reliable ways to connect your supers. Some other basic combos to get an idea of what I'm talking about...

- Iron Man: crouching wk, wk, wk (on the ground), wp -> Proton Cannon (this combo won't work if the opponent techs, but it is good for getting the timing of combos and looks pretty sweet. You'll feel like you accomplished something when you pull this off.)
- Cyclops: hk, hk -> Cyclone Kick (HCB+K -> Directional Optic Blast (QCF+KK)

If you would like some basic combos for other characters, feel free to ask. If you want to try some basic juggling, try something like (in air) wp, wk, wp, hk or wp, wk, wp, special move. Once you get the timing down you will be able to do more advanced stuff.

The last thing you need to do is choose a good assist. I recommend a basic team set-up of

- Attacker 1 (doesn't need to rely on supers to succeed, someone like Magneto, Rogue, Iron Man, Sentinel. )
- Attacker 2 (can take advantage of lots of supers, someone like Cable or Storm)
- Assister (CapCom Anti-Air, Cyclops Anti-Air, Psylocke Anti-Air, Blackheart Anti-Air... see a pattern )

I guess I'll stop now, just remember the most important thing you can do is play good defense, guard push at the right times (PP when blocking) and generally get the most damage you can when you land a series of moves. It doesn't need to be a fancy combo or infinite, just make sure you are consistently getting good damage. That is something most newer fighting game players don't seem to realize. Strategy is 10 times more important than ability to manipulate the controls.

Feel free to ask questions. If you have it on XBLA I'll be happy to play some rounds with you and show you some basics.
