Oh ya I also took violin and piano lessons in addition to everything already listed.

So: violin lessons, piano lessons, night/weekend community college classes, football, art club, and museum volunteering. I think that is everything I did outside of school.

I ran track in 7th and 8th grade. Other than that I didn't play any official school sports.

I played baseball up to 8th grade in summers, played winter and summer league basketball up through high school. Played a lot of intramural sports in grad school--basketball, flag football, soccer. Undergrad I didn't do anything but pick up basketball.

One of my regrets was not trying out for basketball in high school. The coach (who was also one of the gym teachers) tried to get me to go out for it in 9th and 10th grade, but I just wasn't interested as I was spending my time skateboarding and hanging out with friends and my girlfriend etc. But I love basketball and wish I'd taken it more seriously back in high school so I'd have gotten a chance to at least play competitively for those couple of years.

Now I'm too busy to join any rec leagues so the closet I get to playing sports is hitting the gym or going for runs. I watch a shit ton of sports though. ESPN is pretty much always on in the background when I'm home. I don't care for sports video games anymore though, oddly enough. I just get bored of them too quickly to buy anymore, and most have gotten too realistic/complicated for my liking. I'm tempted to pick up the new NBA Jam that came out though, as I loved the original back on the SNES.
I learned C++ myself thanks to a very well written book when I was finally single. That's about the extent of my after school activities that didn't make me want to blow my brains out, LOL!
Man, I really did nothing outside of school. :whistle2:(

I was lucky enough to have programming classes in my high school, so I ended up learning Java there. I didn't start learning other languages until college.

Good god, you are multi-talented.

My most advanced IT class was "Introduction to Computers," I was not pleased.
So do you know how to speak Japanese then?
No I'm still not too good at it unfortunetly.

I still haven't learned that many kanji which means I really can't read anything, although even if I could my vocabulary and grammer knowledge isn't that huge.

The one good thing I can say though is everything I've learned has stuck with me, I took a basic Japanese class as a refresher course at a community college after I had my bachelor's degree while I was still looking for a job (in addition to some other programming classes that I didn't get in my degree); and I can honestly say that I remembered a lot of it, and just filled in the gaps with some stuff that wasn't taught very well to me when I was first learning Japanese.

I wish I could learn to speak it more, haha. Actually sophomore year of high school I was selected to go on a summer exchange program to live with a host family in Japan. I lived in Kumamoto, Japan on Kyushu for 6 weeks and got to attend a bit of Japanese High School and do some of their after school activities, it was fairly fun. I'm not in touch with the host family anymore though. Didn't help my Japanese too much though while I was there because I'm kind of shy to try a language I knew I might screw up , and everyone wanted to try and talk to me to try their English.

Mine were actually quite good. We even had a couple AP Comp Sci classes which got me some college credit.

fuck you on both statements.

I took 3 programming classes in high school and don't know one solitary line of code between Java, C++ and AP Computer Science. (or as it was alternately called AP Counterstrike) fuck everything about that school.
Here's info about Kumamoto where I stayed for my foreign exchange in Japan. It was through Youth For Understanding (YFU) which offers a lot of international exchanges. I had to write some essays and go through an interview process to be selected if I remember correctly.
So... are you able to understand imported games at this point?
So... are you able to understand imported games at this point?
I don't think anyone will ever understand this:
So... are you able to understand imported games at this point?
Nope, I can sometimes recognize some words, sometimes a sentence; but like I said my vocab and grammar is still fairly limited, and I only know 100-200 Kanji and by the end of High School a Japanese person should know 2000 in order to be able to read at an adult level.

Actually all that talk of after school activities, but I mean I did play a fair amount of video games after school as well.

Thinking back not even I know how I managed to do all that at once... :whistle2:k I can assure you I did though.

Ya that is one thing I didn't seem to have any time for, haha. A relationship. It was kind of funny towards the end of senior year I remember seeing a girl in the hallway who I couldn't remember the name of but she said hi to me with my name, and I was like... why do you know my name I don't remember ever talking to you.

I had a very hard time saying no ... I was an idiot.
Its kind of funny reminiscing on the past, because I'm so much different now, and yet still somewhat the same, haha. Kind of reminds me of this song:
I am not a fan of reminiscing about the past, I like things the way they are now much more.

When I want to be all nostalgic I listen to Brand New. Depresses me every time.

Welp, I'm dying GGT, something fucked up has happened to my ear drum and I'm dying.
I am not a fan of reminiscing about the past, I like things the way they are now much more.
I like reminiscing about the good parts of the past. But I agree that I like things much better now. Not that I didn't like things back then. I just like things more now.

Good parts? Hmm... the part where I left Cali was good.

I still listen to a lot of the same stuff I listened to back at the end of high school, so I get nostalgic a lot. I still associate certain music with certain times in my life/events/games I was playing at the time, etc.

Things were a lot simpler for me back then, kind of in all aspects. Now I have work 5 days a week and I come home fairly tired, school was so much easier, haha (not having homework is nice though). I wasn't concerned about relationships then (although even then I think I had a clue that I wasn't exactly normal), now I feel confused about my own sexuality and it makes it hard to look for someone else because I'm not totally comfortable with who I am yet (like I'm sure of who I want to be and confident, but society's preconceptions prevent me from acting my normal self a lot of the time, for instance I have to pretend to some degree I'm something I'm not at work because it might get really awkward if they knew who I really was). In fact you guys might know the real me better than a lot of the people I work with.

It's ok, I accept you for who you are. :grouphug:

Hmm... you guys are very open, I don't really want to be that open on here. However, since icebeast opened up to me when I asked him about himself, I'd totally tell him anything he wanted to know ... in a PM.

While your situation is certainly a bit more unique than the rest of us, I think that a lot of people are probably in somewhat similar situations, so you don't have to feel alone in that. I think all of us have to "pretend" a bit in real life to a certain extent because of societal norms. I feel like the internet allows you to be yourself a bit more than real life (although not everyone chooses to use it that way of course).

In High School I went to a lot of parties, dated a lot, and worked out all the time. In my free time I wrote shit for my school tv station that I was always on and practiced the One Inch Punch in my backyard.

It was just nice to tell someone other than my sister directly what I'm going through, because I've mostly been going through it alone since my sister and best friends are the only people close to me that really know. I felt like if I were to tell someone through PM it would be the same as keeping it a tightly kept secret, this way I feel like I've opened up to a reasonable size group of people (even if you guys don't completely know me in real life). Talking through it has also helped me to understand myself better, and it feels like less of a secret now.

As for the skype chat.... wtfffff
Chac and I share an affinity for nice furniture, nice audio equipment, and IPS monitors. Though I'm using lowly Dells.

Well I don't feel so bad now, LOL! I, however, don't like to explain my secrets in message board topics where everybody can read them. Since I asked you all those personal questions, I'll tell you stuff like that if you ever ask ... in a PM.

Haha, oh I agree completely, everyone acts a little differently around different people. I've just found it hard when someone for instance asks me what I'm doing on the weekends and I mention that I'm sewing and then they inevitably ask me what I'm sewing and then I get very flustered and I'm not sure what to say (although I have told a few good friends at work about my cosplay stuff (because they insisted on knowing when I told then I was going to an anime Con), once I tried to pass it off as a joke (and it was awkward), and the second time I told it to a co-worker at a holiday party who was a bit drunk).

I'm not really worried about taking out my pink DS at work, or all the plush creatures I have decorating my desk, for some reason (maybe I'll take a picture someday, haha it is kind of gaming related).

Set your DVR to http://www.foodnetwork.com/good-eats/index.html

The greatest cooking show ever. I dedicate my culinary skills to Alton Brown.

As for reading through GGT while bored at work:

-I can understand Chinese (Mandarin) and Japanese (sukoshi, a little bit). Can barely read and write, though I know what the kanji means, I can't say it. Give me a chinese movie and I can understand all of it. Japanese movie, just a bit, like names and such.

-As for the internet, it basically is a way to be yourself outside of yourself. Here you have way more people in contact with you than in your normal daily life, yet most only know each other by an alias, or through other tube methods. I must say GGT is its own crowd of awesome. Except JSP, ever since he got rid of that Bayonetta avatar. I KID!

-High School was fun for me, though I do blame anime/manga for be not being as active as I should have been with chicks. Quick list: Tennis Captain (3 years), Varsity Football (2 years), ASB (2 years), Yearbook (3 years), Orchestra (4 years, violin!), Toastmasters (public speaking) and a few others. Was nominated for Athlete of the Year for Tennis two years in a row. I was fucking awesome at tennis, but it wasn't a passion, just a sport I was good at until I dislocated my right shoulder.
No DVR, and no cable TV.
There are other methods involving the internet. Starts with a "t" and rhymes "o rent."

Beat Dragon Quest VI, and received Muchi Muchi Pork/PinkSweets yesterday. Didn't start a game of Radiant Historia, but probably will tonight.

I also got my Tekken 6 stick so I might pick up MvC3 tomorrow too.
The loading on CAG since mygamercard.net went down has been killing me. What the hell?
Stab it back.

And I appreciate it, cause your a cool dude. Don't know what I would ask you about your personal life though (that you wouldn't feel comfortable openly sharing) haha.

I agree with what you said about the internet and the GGT being an awesome crowd. :D

Also you sound as busy as I was in high school, haha. Glad to hear someone else played the violin, I really liked playing it since it has a beautiful sound.

Whoooo, breakfast time. Friend's doing some electrical work for me. I do PC work for him, he does electrical work for me. Barter system, bitches.

Then Imma play some games all day.

I play drums. They don't have a beautiful sound.

Alton Brown looks like he'd be molesting children in a neighborhood somewhere. Creepy ass motherfucker.

Cooking is the shit. Nothing like making food for yourself that tastes what you want it to.

Like this shit I made the other day.
