Also, some interesting sales news from NCSX about their sealed Under Defeat LE for DC sales.

Seems like they still have it (PA sold out a while ago), but have finally dipped under 50 copies.

It's a great game, and I'd recommend it for DC shmup fans or shmup collectors.

I don't know if this will get ported to XBLA or console, but it's a possibility for those that still want to hold off...

Got started on shmups with the Compile games on the Master System such as Astro Warrior and Power Strike.

Edit: My true first was probably River Raid on the 2600.

I'm really pissed about Star Soldier R. It sounds like they tried to make a shmuppy casual game instead of a new Star Soldier. Only 7 minutes of gameplay (2 minute mode + 5 minute mode) for 10 bucks? fuck that.

Its awesome seeing all this shmups being release this gen over last gen. I have to get my fix of shmups importing dc games and playing sega saturn shmups. :)

After the reception that the admittedly flawed Senko no Ronde got here in the US, I'm not expecting to see Raiden Fighters Aces.

I blame Microsoft for allowing region locks.

Bring on the PS3 shmups.

Raiden generally = decent, but not great. So I'm none too interested in Raiden Fighter Aces, or whatever the title was.

It'd be nice to see shmups come out on the PS3 instead though, just for that easy importation.

Senko was more of a fighter than a shmup, IMO. To me, it was more a case of a game trying to please everyone and not really succeeding as a result. ubisoft's lack of promotion also hampered things.

And as far as I know, Shikigami is only for sure coming to US Wiis.

I don't mind as long as Ketsui 360 makes it over here.

I think I'll skip Milestone Collection for Wii.

I'm not real keen on Wii mote control, I already have Radilgy, I didn't care for Chaos Field, and not too impressed with the art style of Karous.

Too bad there'll never be a "Cave Collection"...

Well, I bought TriggerHeart Exelica and Ikaruga on Live last night. Unfortunately, no one on my friends list has TriggerHeart and only one has Ikaruga.

I have Triggerheart on XBLA (and the LE on DC). Not sure if I will get Ikaruga, since I already have it on GCN and I'm low on points. I will probably end up getting it this week though. :p

I already have the Cube version of Ikaruga too, but I like the Leaderboards Live provides even if I am not high on them.

I don't think Square is going to release anything for XBLA. At least, I'd be very surprised.

We can hope for a PSN version, though.

I broke down and picked up Ikaruga for XBLA--it's well worth it. The graphics are improved, and all the online features and extras make me want to sell off my GCN version as I don't see any real reason to play it now.

The conversion makes me super excited about the Cave games coming to 360--if they come out like this, those are gonna be all kinds of awesome and I will asplode.
Oh rats, I forgot about the Raiden Fighters Demo on XBLJ. I will try DL that before GTAIV hits tonight. :p
How can I download it also? Do I need to setup my xbox360 a certain way?

Oh sorry for not responding ryosnk, but you just need to set up a Japan XBL silver account.

There's a thread on here somewhere that tells you how to do that.

And ooo, my Shiki III Wii shipped today.

I still need to DL the Raiden demo. Maybe I will try that tonight. :p

Not sure, but it seems like they changed the MSRP of Shiki3 from $40 to $30. Probably better as a $20 game, as most Wii games need to be, but eh I like shmups so $30 is ok with me.

Star Soldier R is out!

Unfortunately, I'm not going to pick this up until after I come back from vacation in a couple of weeks, so someone else will have to post their impressions of the game.

I'm definitely goinig to pick this one up, even though it might be one of the last titles I have room for on my Wii. :p

I'm probably going to sell my GCN copy too. I'm trying to streamline my collection anyway.

It's too bad that, atm, they are Japan only due to MS being stupid :(

Quick impressions of Shiki III:

Beyond the Tension gauge dynamic, it's mostly the same as the others in the series. It's still pretty fun as far as shooters go, however, and I like being rewarded for traversing Bullet Hell beyond just staying alive. It does make you want to take more chances, though, particularly on the lesser difficulties.

Overall I'm pretty happy with this game, and despite some folks' complaints to the contrary, I'm glad it's on disc where it can't muck up what little is left of my Wii storage space. Seriously Nintendo, I'm tired of complaining about this so we need to see the external or some other storage expansion solution or you won't be getting any more Wii points out of me. Download management is annoying enough as it is with all the other consoles and computers I have to deal with.

And one last rant about game industry reviewers knocking Shiki and other "modern" old school shooters: if you don't like the conventions of the genre, don't take it out in the review. Either accept it for what it is, or don't even bother giving it a score. Especially the "game too short" or "game too hard" knocks. That's what shooters are about, high difficulty and high scores. Remembering patterns and stages.

The one complaint that I might be able to tolerate is the aspect ratio. Maybe shmups do need to get a 21st century make over and figure out a way to use HD resolutions. Certainly, all these games nowdays come from Japanese arcades where the vertical screen is still king, but I can see a market for console shooters that make use of widescreen HD. We'll have to see what trends come out of Nippon, but I do believe any kind of paradigm shift for shmups will not come quickly or easily unless the fans who play provide an immediate positive response.
Otomedious Gorgeous 360 gets a release date!

Looks like I'll be getting an Import 360 by end of September, as I don't remember any of the Otomedious series ever coming here and there'll be Raiden and the Cave Collection among others to make it worth my while...
I hope that there is an asian release or the Japan version doesn't have a regional lock. I want to play this

O...M...G...

The dream is now a reality? Street date for Ketsui Black Label DS?!?

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9g-49-en-70-2rh8-4-6.html

We knew they could do it--were doing it--just not sure if it would ever get released. Now the excitement can build again. I would get this AND the 360 one. I can always bullet hell on the road!

Old video, but whets the appetite:

Edit: yeah, I'm a month late on the news, but someone's gotta keep this thread alive. :p

I did.

I'm down for portable Ketsui. Heck, the 360 one doesn't even have a release date yet.

But I'll get both regardless.
1942 Joint Strike releases next week! 7/23 for XBLA and 7/24 for PSN. I've got the points, so I'm going XBLA on this one. Anyone want to co-op it, just hit me up if you happen to see me online.

Caveat: I love shmups, but I'm not necessarily good at them... >_<
haven't seen anything saying it drops next week but if it does, thats an automatic day 1 buy for me

I was kinda excited after seeing u post about 1942, but I read on wikipedia it's jus a remake of the first game?!?!?!

how can I be hype for that?? I'd rather play Aero Fighters on PSP SNES9XTYL

Its like a crazy remake though! Like rondo of blood to drac x chronicles, but with better gameplay! (supposedly)

Joint Strike is indeed a remake of the original. However, there's some new features added to co-op play, new bosses and bullet patterns, the HD, full screen presentation (no tate mode/vertical bar action), and XBL stuff that distinguish it from just a standard port. Looks pretty fun overall...

Edit: lol, I don't remember the mech thing in 19xx. That would be cool, though. One mech shooter I really like is Hyper Duel.
