God of War III -- Gen. Discussion
You have an odd sense of entitlement.

Despite what you say, paying for demo access isn't exactly a new concept (I didn't buy Tobal No.1 for its intriguing gameplay mechanics), and I don't know why it should go away just because more efficient content delivery mechanisms exist so long as people are still willing to fork over the money.

And even buying your premise that demos have "never been shit you had to pay for," markets change. It wasn't that long ago when people thought the idea of paying for television was ridiculous.
I still think paying for TV is ridiculous. Comcast has a monopoly on the cable market here and they gouge out the ass, but I'm not the one paying that bill here, so I can't speak about paying or not paying. But there's not much on TV nowadays that I'd really pay to watch. If it were up to me though, that's $60 something a month that could be better spent elsewhere.

Back in the PS1 era Sony sent me so many demo discs it wasn't even funny. I would easily get 2-3 or more of them every month or two. In the PS2 gen that changed, but I had a freebie subscription to the Official Playstation mag(which was nice)so I got most of the important demos free that way. They sent me a trial issue, I checked cancel and sent the card back and they didn't stop sending them for years.

But again, if some are willing to pay for a demo, then so be it. It IS a smart business move, but it will make some PS3 owners(ie those like me)very jaded towards not having access to that demo until AFTER they feel they've sold enough of the GOW collection.

And again, it is theirs to do with as they please, but it just sucks. I'll get over it, but then again I wasn't planning on buying GOW3 on release date anyway. I just wanna see how the game will play versus the prior ones. This just means I gotta wait a lil while longer to do so.

I'm done. If you guys wanna keep going, go ahead. But it's obvious I must be the only gamer whose played the other GOW games who would just like to sample the third game already and not have to pay for the privilege.
Wow. Are you for real?

Why GoW3? There are tons of demos that are available at E3, PAX, TGS, GDC, Blizzcon that aren't available to download online.

You can't be that dumb. Did I just misread what you said?
Because God Of War III is my next game I was planning on getting? That's about it, since every other game I had some interest in is either delayed like crazy(just like GOW3)or there's been very little(if any) info out on them.

I was looking forward to I Am Alive, but that got shoved wayyyy the hell back and I think they even changed devs on the game now. I was looking forward to Darksiders, but there's been only sparse info out about that.

And the list goes on, but most of them have slipped from my thoughts at this point due to the lack of info or them being delayed. That's probably what will happen with GOW 3 too, since I need the demo to actually pique my interest. But with how it's being released, who knows when the general public will get their hands on it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

iamcheapestgamer. why do i always see you complaining about something

wahh wahh wahh i want a ps3 slim. whaa whaa whaa i want more trade in credit at gamestop. whaa whaa whaa i want gow3 demo for free.

Don't worry about the delay story for the GoW Collection. 1up updated their story with this:

UPDATE -- PS3center reports that Sony's Jeff Rubenstein says the game is still on track for a fall 2009 release. This makes the sudden change from various retailers a bit of a mystery, but it seems to be official word, so it's the one we'll trust.
Thank you. I don't know why my opinions seem to irk so many.
No, your comments don't irk me, and yes, i understand your points. However, as many pointed out, it's a business model and there are a lot of demo contents not available to us using your GoWIII "free" demo logic.

To make you feel any better, consider this, demos on the Xbox Live are not entirely free, Gold members get them first. If you're not Gold, you have to wait. So, you see, the GoWIII demo for people bought the GoW Collection do make sense yes? Eventually everyone else will get the GoWIII demo...

I know it's cool to be Cheap, but please, don't get confused with "entitlement" with "cheapness."

I have accepted the fact that i don't get demos on the Xbox Live at the same time as Gold, because i didn't pay for Live... I can bitch all i want, but so? People just going to tell me cough up the Live membership fee or STFU.

And with all of the deals from various stores on old XBL packs for super cheap at times on here, why haven't you upgraded?

As for feeling 'entitled', I didn't have to wait last gen, as Sony sent me the demo disc for the original God Of War and I liked that enough to want to get the second one when it came out or soon after.

But after the shitty ending to part 2 and the fact they stuck it in everyone's face that it was 'only going to be on PS3'(since some are still not ready to upgrade but wanna play this), I feel as if Sony has screwed over their core audience for whom this title was going to be a day one puyrchase(including me).

But since they've done this 'buy this to get early access or you have to wait till we're ready to give it to you' nonsense this time, they can kiss my ass. I'll buy God Of War III used and from Rapestop, who I'd rather give my money to than the money grubbers at Sony.

I know there are deals on Live, but no matter how you look at it, it's still few bucks a month for something only handy in once a while. If i don't have to pay when i'm not using, then yeah, it's a cool deal. But it's like cable service, regardless you're watching TV or not, you get billed. So, it's really a waste of money for me (i don't download demo all the time, i don't have tons of time to play on on-line, i don't have "friends" i want to chat and i certainly don't stream from Netflix). It's a value to a lot of other folks i'm sure...

Okay, that i can relate :) It does feel good to get pampered once in a while by a dev/publisher. However, that's a privilege, don't expect it like some "entitled" freebies. Remember the GoW PSP freebies? Oh man, that was the coolest deal/promotion ever, free GoW:CoO demo UMD and the cool Omega chain! I certainly don't mind getting that again for GoWIII, but alas, it was a privilege, it's not something i'm entitled to...

sorry, disagree with that totally... First off, GoWII ending is not shitty (you apologize CheapestG). The ending was great, full of hopes and chaos, i was so pumped for III, regardless what platform. Hell, even if it went Xbox exclusive, i'll happily get it for the Xbox w/o much complaints. Come to think of it, i actually want III to be made on the next gen (PS3 or Xbox, don't matter). For one, i played I and II on the PS2, so naturally i'm tended to think what will III be like on the next gen? Take the gods down in HD? What's not to like?

That's your opinion CheapestG and you're certainly welcome it. However, just because you can't get a "free" demo like those of us ordered the Collection it doesn't mean Sony is screwing you over GoWIII.

Correction, i didn't play GoW I and II on the PS2, i played them on the original 60gb PS3... And now i'll playing them again on the PS3 for trophies :)

Well, it also has been pushed back numerous times, which is a good thing in that so many games nowadays are released glitchy and patched to hell later on. So hopefully the extra time is being spent on making part 3 the best it can be and it's not just being delayed due to the collection coming out.

As for it being in HD, I don't really care one way or the other. I've been looking at a 21" LCD monitor from Acer from Target for $189 to 'upgrade', but I just don't see the need to as of yet.

CheapestG, 21" LCD is a upgrade? You're the cheapest gamer

i know big screens and surround sounds are not needed, but they sure make the gaming experience more enjoyable.

Not in the room I'd have it in. I sit like 4-5' from my current gaming setup(20" SDtv & PS3), so I really DON'T need or want a huge tv.

I had a 27" tv for about a week and it was TOO big, if you ask me.

Of course, if the aholes at the game development companies would actually realize that some people are still gaming on SDtv's and stop making text/HUD's unreadable unless you have an HDtv that'd be great.

We live in an HD world now. Honestly, if you have a 360 or PS3 you should be gaming on an HDTV. Otherwise it is a HUGE waste. I know, I had a 360 before an HDTV and games looked like shit (not just text/HUD). Got an HDTV and the difference is like night and day.

Yeah a friend of mine finally upgraded to HD and has had a 360 since launch. He had his mind blown.

Make sure you hit that HD button on the GoW trailer or it isn't right. Looking forward to it for sure.

But see the thing is I don't have a large room where I play my PS3 in and I don't need a giant HDtv, but even the smaller HDtv's have a giant friggin' price.

Anything over $200 for a 20 inch or so HDtv is a joke to me. Besides which, they typically use MORE power than an SDtv, right? For what I use my tv for now(gaming and maybe 2-3 hours of tv a night), SD is still fine for me.

I've been over this 1000x and I know I sound redundant already with this whole deal, but I just don't need HD anything, not at the prices they're still gouging them at.

And before you go saying 'wait till you see games on an HDtv', I'll stop you right there and say that I have seen them on an HDtv versus my SDtv and to me the difference just isn't worth the added price and NEVER will be.

No, LCDs use LESS power: http://www.ehow.com/about_5398279_crt-lcd-tv-power-consumption.html

As for pricing, you can get a 32" HDTV for $300 if you find the right deal. I've seen 26" HDTV's in the low $200's too. This Xmas/BF I'm sure you will see a 26" HDTV for under $200...
WTH? That video player refreshes when I move my mouse. :bomb: Thank goodness YouTube was created, every site should just use a universal player like that.
I hate Black Friday though. I've done that garbage maybe twice in my lifetime and that was more than enough. The crowds and all of the other idiots out there who're willing to mow each other down for the newest 'deal', it's sickening.

Then again, that's what CAG has been reduced to at times lately.

And again, I definitely don't need/want a 32" tv for a room my size. As for the prices on 20" HDtv's, I'll stick with my SDtv till I really need one.

Back OT, rec'd an email reminder from Sony that the GoW III E3 demo will be available with pre-orders of GoW Collection.

I know it's old news, but Sony just sent me the reminder today.

It would be cool if the demo code is e-mailed to you rather than in the Collection's case as a voucher. Well, you can play the damn thing couple of days earlier :)

So why did the God of War 3 thread turn into a God of War Collection thread? The topic title is all wrong, too.

Will definitely be picking up the collection soon after release. Will probably pass on GoW3 for a while, at least until there's a sale of some sort. Sony did a good thing by re-releasing 1 and 2, but at the same time I'm getting 2 games for $40 while GoW3 will be $60.

I wonder if the local game shop will get in District 9 on BR within a week of release and price it for like $10-12 like they do most other BR movies. Then, I'll just resell it to someone else who wants to play the GOW3 demo and probably make back my $$$.

Oh and YAY cheesemints and trophies.
I was bored and was randomly going through VGBoxArt.com looking at all the custom made ones and I came across this beauty. I could see them doing this though.
Looks like the official box art is this:

Is the demo even available for DL yet? I'm going to have like three fucking codes for this demo now that they're whoring it out with everything imaginable. GOW:C, District 9, and a GS PO just for the free phantom skin (will cancel).

UPDATE: to answer my own question, it looks like the demo is LIVE (at least in PAL territories). Oh, and it looks like anyone can get the demo just by pre-ordering the ultimate edition. Why not just spare us the time wasted making an order and canceling by just putting the damn thing up on PSN free?
