God of War III -- Gen. Discussion

So im trying to finish up these Challenge of Exile challenges. These are much harder than the Olympus ones.

Switch Blade - Kill all the enemies before time runs out, Your weapon will be switched every 30 seconds. This one is just tough, ill just leave it at that.

Use Protection - Break all of the shields without killing any enemies. This one is hard mainly because kratos likes to hit the closest enemy to him, and disregards what direction you are trying to hit in. So you might be trying to hit a dude on the left, but he will hit someone on the right without a shield just to screw you over.

Hades Kids 2 - Get 5 chimeras to spawn. This one really should say, get 5 chimeras to spawn at once, or something because i dont understand. Because i kill 1, then 2 show up, i kill those two and four show up. Now if i count right thats 7 chimeras that spawn, or at least 6 if you dont count the first one. I dont know how the hell you can kill enough to get 5 if that doesnt count. By the time i get 4 to spawn i have 10 seconds left. Oh and i love how when they charge at you in their final stage, and you jump up higher than their head, they still hit you.

I forgot to mention this earlier after I beat the game and watched the credits and I'm sure others have noticed but...

Question:

For those with Redeemable Skin Codes at www.godofwar.com/skin

1)
How long (aka how many days) did it take for you to receive your downloadable skin code from Sony after redeeming the voucher?

2)
Is it possible to redeem more than one different Skin codes with your original account (i.e. redeeming the Chaos Skin and the Apollo Skin)?

#1 - It says on the code (You have until June)
#2 - If you manage to use another PSN account with a separate email address

Honestly, I didn't have much trouble with the Flying sections in the game, unlike the demo. Maybe the demo prepped me for it.

1) I am still waiting for the codes! I entered one in January, February and March!

2) All 3 were entered on different accounts. It is only one per account. However, they e-mail the codes out, so you can enter all of them onto your main account. That is what I am going to do.
End game spoiler + my interpretation.
Not everyone is dead at the end of GOW3, the world is just in shambles. The power that Kratos discovered came from hope. When he kills himself (rather than giving the power to Athena) he gives that hope to the surviving mortals. I viewed this as the end of Greek mythology. The people are, for the first time, continuing on without the gods. It is a dark time, but they have been given hope to overcome the fear instilled by the rule of the gods. My interpretation, anyway.

Not sure if I like/completely understand the 180 Athena took from GOW2 to GOW3, btw. I did expect Kratos to die, given that this was the "definitive" end to the trilogy.
I agree, I saw that as the end of the era and the beginning of a new one, where mankind relied more on itself rather than the gods. In a way, that was Kratos true purpose. I also agree, that he is better off dead at this point. What would there be for Kratos to do now? After all he has done and been through, there is no rest for him. He has no life, he has eluded death to complete this purpose, and now that it is done, it was time for him to finally embrace it. I hope what was shown after the credits was not an indication that he somehow survived. I would rather it be that he drug himself to the edge and leaped off, finally fulfilling the death that was denied him at the beginning of this trilogy.

As for a point that was brought up earlier, in the true ending to God of War, there were scenes from modern wars, yes. At the time, this was not a planned trilogy. God of War 1 was made and completed as a stand alone project. To continue the series, a few sacrifices had to be made, and that is one of them. It is unfortunate, but thankfully, a rather small contradiction in the grand scheme of things.

Okay I finished the game over the weekend and now i'm itching to talk about the experiences/questions

I don't understand why Kratos have to bring the whole
Cuby labyrinth
to Mt. Olympus. Why bother? Why can't he just
have Pandora hop on his back and climb up altogether?
What's the purpose of getting the entire
set of Cubes up?

Then there's Athena... I don't know what's her role in the whole series, but to me, she's either a cunning or hormonal bitch. Let's talk about what did she do...
In GoW part I, she urge Kratos to put an "end" to Ares (by that, we know she meant to kill Ares).
In GoW II, it was Athena again urge Kratos to do something in the beginning... Which eventually ended up stripping Kratos godly power.
In GoW III, guess what? Yep, you're right...
Athena came back again as soon as she can contact him, in the underworld, since she died.

Remember that the Muses (the two girls at the very top) and the Judges (the 3 kings in Hades) prevent the chain from moving and thus, preventing the world from delving into chaos. So Kratos, in order to disrupt the current order of the world, had to move the chains.

Now, Zeus wanted to prevent anyone from reaching Pandora so he ordered Daedalus to build the Labyrinth. Due to it's size and given the difficulty of the area, I would guess Daedalus picked the Caverns to build it in.

So the two things sorta worked in with one another. Kratos had to pull the chains up and the cubes were already stuck there so... why not just bring down the whole mountain?

I don't think Athena is bad... I think she just doesn't trust mankind to do the right thing and she's too full of herself.

In GoW, all the gods wanted Kratos to put an end to Ares' destruction. She was just the one Kratos asked for help from so she ended up being the middleman between gods and Kratos.
In GoWII, she was the one who tried to warn Kratos and prevent him from becoming like Ares. Yeah, she's the one who ultimately took some of his power but Zeus was the one who killed him (or tried to).
In GoWIII, she realizes that the gods are screwing the world over so she's using Kratos for her own needs thinking it's for the best of mankind (she is the god of civilization).

Vinny, wow, thanks for the explanation, now the pieces fall together very nicely! It makes perfect sense to "at the end, only chaos."

And thanks for the Athena clarification as well. I do agree with "full of herself" statement. Since she asked for
credit at the end, she said "you fool, instead of me, now people will never know..." when Kratos killed himeslef.

I swear man, Kratos doesn't have to
kill himself
. I think ultimately, the devs played the godly role... It saddens me, the ending... I didn't find the ending lackluster like many gamers felt, but man, it did made me scratch my head and wondering what the hell just happened.

One thing i can't connect though and i don't think anybody can, i give credit/respect to anyone who can give a reasonable explanation to this:

In GoW, at the end, we were told to expect more Kratos' adventures to come... We were shown with pictures of WWI (or II, I don't remember) and as well as modern warfare with Kratos as the God of War. BUT, at the end of GoWIII, Kratos
is dead, he's dead, can't be more dead, i don't think he can fight out of the underworld this time, because he killed himself
. So the question is, how in the world he sees through WWI or WWII or the modern warfare?

Let us remember...
Kratos, raging bad ass that he is, is a tragic figure. The story is patterned after a Greek tragedy.

I don't think Kratos is dead, dead. I don't think he will be the main character anymore, but I could be wrong. I thought the same thing about the future wars... but they gotta save some of that for the sequel. Seem to leave just enough unanswered questions to leave it on our minds.

Okay, i think that's reasonable and it's the same conclusion i came up with... There's some room in that area for another series.
but i still think Kratos is dead dead, there's no way he'll be resurrected. If he returns, it will be in a ghostly form.

I will have mine by the end of the week (if all goes well) :whistle2:D

I dont remember what you are talking about. I remember zeus as the eagle and zapped him down to mortal size. Which he thought was athena, but wasnt. And Zeus tricked kratos into giving up his powers into the sword. How did Athena urge kratos to do something in the begining? I only remember her trying to stop him.

good point maybe normal would be better anything besides titan considering how much energy you lose with hits.

Titan mode is a bit insane. I need to beat it to get the platinum though... I am almost up to Hades palace though, woohoo

Yeah, I'm on the last boss, and he's a toughie, especially his 2nd form.

Could anyone give me any times for Titan mode? Also, what are the biggest problems? I know a bunch of people said the
flame cerberus
was the worst. I thought the opening battle was insane..

Anything and everything is appreciated!

Master the use of the Golden Fleece (block counter), anticipate attacks and dodge roll to avoid being hit. Grabbing in general is a good way to avoid attacks as doing their animations render you invincible, so use that to your advantage. Chain grab is a great example and the charge grab.

The FC fight is actually quite easy to me. Use the Cestus and start jumping around the beast while punching, if you do this he won't be able to hurt you. And as soon as his friends start coming to help him use the Army of sparta magic MAX to do great AOE damage. Also make sure to use Blade of Olympus during the fight.

There someone goes again with the FC easy using rage. That is the best strategy of course, if one has rage.

Grabs are usually invincible, but not always. But if it is a prompt it is 100% guaranteed invincible. All good tips. As he said blocking, parrying using the fleece is huge in harder difficulties. In lower difficulty you can get away with bulldogging, but on hard+ you have to actual learn patterns and be precise.

for those of you trying to get the
nice tan trophy i think it only counts each time you blind someone so you can get more than once from someone. i just did in in the room after you kill hermes where those enemies pop up and i blinded them , waited till it wore off and then did it over and over and i got it. so any place where theres tons of enemies do the charged up blinding blast and you should get it quicker.

what he said if you cant use the fleece you will have a hell of a time clearing the game.

This is correct you can't just tap triangle to flash blind them .. you have to charge it then blast them blind to get that trophy

You mean how long it took to beat on titan mode? I got to
the top of the labyrinth
in 9 hours and 19 minutes. That was my last save. So i couldnt tell you how much longer i took to finish the game. I died 85 times up to that point LOL. I got to the
Pit of Tartarus
in 6 hours 10 minutes.

The only problems i really had in titan difficulty was
Hades, took a while to get past him. The last fight in the Labyrinth, and right after is the Cerberus fight. So i would hope you can get past the final battle in the labyrinth with your rage of sparta still full. Even that was hard for me to save it. But its possible. The Zeus fight is pretty hard in the first stage, but after you get past that i was able to beat it without too much trouble. Poseidon gave me a few problems but i was able to get past that without too much trouble. Some people seem to have trouble with the scorpion but i think i beat him on my 2nd try.

Here is a little tip i did when i was in the labyrinth,
when it starts spinning, and the spikes come up. During the 2nd wave of enemies there is a small ledge in the back of the room you can stand on. Even if the spikes shoot up back there they wont hurt you. Its near the floor so it looks close. But it makes it easy.

If you get into a prompt with a Satyr, you are still vulnerable for several seconds while it asks you to mash on the O button.

Anyone still waiting on their costume? This is crazy, I redeemed mine last Monday and I still haven't gotten my code e-mailed to me.

Hmmm i just realized that i used one of my skin codes on my nephews PS3 account. One i think that is for a child, he needs to log into the main account to play home. Do you think that its going to stop me from downloading my pre order skin because of this?

I redeemed mine, all 3, march 15th and im still waiting for emails.

* The Character Skin is only available to legal U.S. and Canadian residents with a PlayStation®Network (“PSN”) account who are 17 or older and have pre-ordered God of War III.

You might not be able to get it on his account...

@ 7th Number
apparently the code isn't tied to your PSN account, so you can redeem every single one on one PSN account when they e-mail them to you.

Of course since you can only redeem one code per PSN account on GoW website, you need 3 different e-mails. Stupid shit.

Thanks for responding though, good to know I'm not the only one SoL.

I love the godly possession of
Hephaestus Ring. It allows you to win all QTE button presses, you dont even have to press anything. Just sit back and enjoy the show.

Just beat this the other night... such an epic game - they did a great job staying true to the series without Jaffe behind it. I grabbed the Ultimate Edition, was kinda dissapointed they only physical extra item was the art book. Although the extra downloadable stuff was neat... and Pandora's box replica makes a badass place for spare change... or to hide.. stuff... in the false bottom:lol:.

I just beat it on easy, but I can't believe I forgot Hephaestus' ring when I kicked his ass. It took me like 7 tries or so to get that GH-esque bs done and over with too. Total pain in the ass.

BTW, the IMDB page for the game lists Michael Clarke Duncan as reprising his role as Atlas, so maybe that's the titan battle they took out of the game?

The music part never gave me any trouble, and ive been past it three times now. Doesnt seem like difficulty effects how hard it is. Im on my third run, this time beating normal, already done easy and hard. Im using my Dominus skin and most of the godly possessions. Makes it very easy. Only wish i could use this stuff on chaos difficulty without having to beat it normally first.

Im pretty sure the next game will involve
Kratos' brother, and his revenge against kratos. Maybe you will play as him, and be the one trying to kill kratos...that would be an interesting spin. I think this because it was an idea since GOW1 they had about his brother. Also Zeus says maybe gaia picked the wrong one. Then there is a note on hades floor that says "Hades, I beg at your palace gates, grant me a reprieve! Have I not become all you have wanted? Are my debts not paid in full? How long must I hope for a rescue that will never come? He becomes a God, while I rot and suffer. Release me so that I may have my revenge!". Now that Kratos killed Hades, maybe his brother will be able to escape it, and seek revenge. Seems like a good direction to go in.

I just entered my Dominus/Challenges code and um...my main menu of GOWIII now says "Ultimate Edition". I don't know if it said that before or not, but I'm going to go with no.

No it didn't ..mine did the same thing.. The disc that came in the Ultimate Edition is the same disc as you get regularly. The DLC"s change that and add the challenge of the exiles

The disc looks the same, but the title screen does state that it's the ultimate edition.

I wish I could use the Costumes in the Combat Arena/Challenges. It's lame that I can't. Dominus + 8 out of the 10 Godly Possessions turned is basically God Mode. I don't see how anyone could die using them.

I haven't entered my codes in yet- but I want to beat Titan mode first. I will have all 10 possessions... and Normal and Hard mode beat. I may run through Easy mode with a skin and all 10 godly possessions turned on just for fun.

Titan mode has ridiculous parts, but when I get passed them- the parts in between are not as bad. I am in
Hades palace
right now. I have a lack of time to play this week... blah!

Actually you're correct... I thought the owl was Athena, but it was really Zeus. They shouldn't use owl, since that's a symbol of Athena. Okay, maybe it wasn't an owl, just a giant bird, but i swear i remember seeing owl symbols in the game.
