GOG Deals Thread

Now taking bets on what's happened to talkinrock since his last post here.

I'm giving 2:1 odds, he's taking a break from the awkwardness he's inspired.
10:1, his wife has found out about this thread and has left with the kids.
15:1, his daughter has killed him.
20:1, he's ironing out marriage arrangements with Idiot.
100:1, Pedobear has kidnapped his whole family.

I'm not actually taking bets, I have no idea how I'd even start.

Or, maybe talkinrock was just in the hospital for a few days, recovering from Lasik surgery gone *slightly* awry...

Quick, kidnap his daughter while he can't see very well!
I'll have you know, @The End, that I can see very well... VERY well indeed. Some may even go so far as to say that due to this surgical mishap, I now have *laser vision*.

Forgive me for that god awful pun, but I've been aching to tell that joke for YEARS, and now that I finally got the chance to tell it, well... I faced my demons, risked losing all of the hard-earned integrity people have in my humour, then just went ahead and committed suicide via bad pun.

Also, it's called *irony*... look it up kiddies (doubly so, because apparently you are all using that word incorrectly these days anyway.)

talkinrock, if you're being held against your will or your life is in danger, blink slowly three times in a row.

Well, I've never provided the CAG coverage for a *major* sale before, and given that I'm half asleep (and half-blind) I don't think now is a great time to start...   So I'll leave this one to The End.

Another quirky sale at GOG. They're calling it the Battle Of The Games. We get a couple of games each day at various discounts, and then we vote for the deals that we want to see the following day.

On second thought, I guess it isn't all that quirky.

Today's deals

50% Off Blackguards Special Edition - $22.49

75% Off Heroes of Might and Magic - $2.49
75% Off Heroes of Might and Magic 2: Gold - $2.49
75% Off Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete - $2.49
80% Off Witcher: Enhanced Edition, The - $1.99

80% Off Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings, The - $3.99

I think the Insomnia Sale ruined GOG for me. I went from something like 10 games to now 57 (not including the free scraps.) I only have one game and two DLC on my wishlist. Though, if the Unreal games are discounted enough, I may pick them up tomorrow.

There's really no chance they're not going to win at this point (grumble grumble), meaning they'll be 75% off. Not sure if that's steep enough for you.

How well have the HoM&M games aged. I'm thinking of picking them up
For "games in general", eh, not as good as some others... However, for "strategy games", they've aged quite wonderfully!

However, if you're going to pick up the 2nd and 3rd, you wouldn't really be missing anything if you didn't get the first, just to let you know.

Oh, talkinrock, you're such a [√ Like This] [customspoiler=whore.]

I will admit I laughed, but I don't *actually* get what the joke is... Call me oblivious to CAG humour, but just out of sheer curiosity, how does recommending a game that's (still) very enjoyable to play make me a wh*re? :whistle2:k

I just meant that you seem to hit the [√ Like This] button on every post in the GOG thread...

I guess I should have explained how the sale works a little better than I did in my post yesterday. Basically, both groups of games from the vote end up on sale the following day. The vote is to determine which group gets the 75% discount and which group only gets 60% off. Pretty simple, but I managed to screw it up yesterday.

Anyway, here are the results of yesterday's vote.

Winners 75% off
    Unreal 2: The Awakening SE - $2.49
    Unreal Gold - $2.49
    Unreal Tournament GOTY - $2.49

Defeated 60% off
    Chaser - $2.39
    Red Faction - $3.99
    Red Faction 2 - $3.99

75% off Pharoah + Cleoptra and the Caesar series sounds too good to pass up. Hope those win.

OP updated (it's a wiki people!).
Already have Zeus and will surely buy Cleop. Caesar 3 is a great game, but it was improved in those 2 later games so I don't think is "needed". I know Zeus improved Cleop too, but the environment is completely different.

I wish Zeus and Cleo were both $5.99/$1.24 like Caesar 3.  That would be a no-brainer purchase for me but $5 for both makes me pause and wonder if I need both.  They have been on my wishlist forever but I am feeling cheap tonight.  Phffff.

Buy Zeus now and wait for another sale on Pharaoh

I don't really care which games win, so I threw my vote to the Gothic games to help you out. You're right though. It aint looking too good for the Gothic games at the moment.

Great news - all the Infinity Engine games (including Planescape: Torment) have been ported to Mac!

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/mac_versions_new_language_packs_for_hasbro_games_and_others/page1
Also Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 & 2, Tropico Reloaded (1&2), and couple others.

Hmm might have splurged on RCT2 in addition to RCT1 if it had a Mac version on the sale a little while back.

Tropico Reloaded is interesting because it had an OSX (PPC) version and was even sold (boxed) in Apple Stores back when. (I'm not sure if that was a proper port or some wrapper (not uncommon back then).

I can't find any evidence in the thread if this is a proper engine port or if they just Wine(skinned) them.
