Grand Theft Auto IV - First Trailer 3/29/2007

The GTA 4 equivalent of the Statue of Liberty is called the Statue of Happiness... Broker is the GTA IV equivalent of Brooklyn, Manhattan is now called Algonquin, Queens is now Dukes, the Bronx is Bohan, and New Jersey is Alderney. The map is smaller than San Andreas, but considerably more detailed. No countryside or desert, we are led to believe.

A Smaller map than SA? What?

That's a good thing, most likely. San Andreas tended to have a lot of extra driving in the countryside that was mostly empty landscape. A lot of people complained about how that artificially lengthened the game.
LOL, I remember that. I found all the glitches/easter eggs in GTA 3... even some barely anyone knows about.
ever push a boat into the garage? my friends and i spent two weekends trying to do it. first we made it to the garage on the third island. it fell through the floor. then we went through the monumental effort of pushing one, ON FOOT, all the way to the garage in the middle of the second island. once we got it in, though, the reward was worth it.

it crashes the game.

I so did that. Hehe.

A bulk of San Andreas was simply deadspace.

It felt like filler.

I agree there were some huge areas of deadspace, but I think also that GTA had traditionally ignored the concept of Suburbs. GTA1, 2, 3, and VC were all contained in cities. SA had clearly defined cities, but only rural (dead) areas between. I think a game like IV could take advantage of the NJ-area suburbs and such.

Is it sad that the scans make the game look way better than the trailer?

I wasn't impressed with the trailer, but I know/knew that the trailer wouldn't have meant much since game play and environment interaction are the core of what makes GTA good... oh, and story.

It's not sad simply because the trailer was presented in a way in which it doesn't display close-up detail, like the scans.

Civilians were presented in the trailer, from wide angles, and mostly with the sprawling bustle of the sped up time progression editing. Naturally, you can't see the details of the civilians as well as they are presented in the magazine scans.

The trailer displays dynamic angles of scenery, and scenery with sped up time progression. It was supposed to be presented artistically. Because of that, the trailer seems more intriguing to me.

Just realised that I could use the bag to go back home to europe for the summer...but Its still a ton of money at the moment for me (I would much rather see daft punk this summer for 100 bucks in paris then pay 100 over 60 bucks for GTA4).

Who knows. I may bite....maybe.
