Grand Theft Auto IV - Gen. Discussion & Info

In case anyone is picking it up at GameCrazy tonight, I got a phone call saying they're doing an extra 20% on trade-ins tonight.
 
anyone been to midnight launches at best buy? only been to 2 midnight launches (halo 2 & 3) and got in line about 10pm or so and was one of the first few but it's raining here in nj so idk what time to go? what time is everyone else going?

I went for Guitar Hero 3 and basically got there at 11 and I'm planning to do the same this time around for GTA as well.

cool i was thinking of that since rain maybe 10:45pm just in case... where there TONS of ppl there? my bb says they didn't get a crapload of preorders but expect 500 copies in store and quite a few ppl...

When I got there, there were like I want to say 10 or so people, but by the time 11:30 -11:45 hit there were over 50 some people. This was on a Sunday, so I kinda want to say won't be as bad with this being finals time though that's just my guess.
 
I'm leaving the house about 11:15... I want to get there a little early because I have a copy of Blue Dragon to dump.

I stopped in earlier on my lunch break and they said there were about 50 total preorders. They only received 2 copies of SE 360, one is mine. I also got to see the framed art and I have to say, it's pretty snazzy looking.

On a side note, I wonder if there will be celebrity voices in this version. Every other game has come through pretty strong with the mafia related characters, oh the suspense!

So...If I hit a cop with my car, I should immediately drive over him and run out of my car? Since soon as I drive off (what I presume his burns covered body) he'll hop back up like nothing happend and chase after me. Eitherway, I'm going midnight, I'm just going to be dead when I show up in class is all...

I know that one of the 647 reviews I've read in the last 2 days mentioned that Rockstar "spared no expense" recruiting celebs to do VO work.

The only confirmed ones that I've read about are
Ricky Gervais and Karl Lagerfeld.

i hope its a gansta fest. I really hate standing there with a bunch of socially awkward nerds trying to be social by making bad Family Guy references and staring at my girlfriend.

only celebrity to be in the game is
Ricky Gervais in one of the comedy clubs
which is damn badass. thankfully the list stops there.

it's scary how true that statement is. I'm just surprised "nerds" can't make up their own jokes. I guess it's mandatory to be social in order to make jokes? I don't get it.

Whenever I see something a new celeb is poping up.
They have
Iggy Pop and Juliett Lewis
as DJ's too.
And we know
David Conley from Law & Order and Oapie and Anthony
are in there...
 
is it possible to end any relationship with the friends that could effect the achievement? I mean, if I dont call someone for a while will they hate me forever? Also, is there any collection things besides the pigeons and the special jumps? THANKS.

I actually haven't heard anything about the music, but I hope there is something similar to Rise FM. Speeding through the city was always extra fun with some electronica/techno beats. :)

Oh, lordy. I'm nervous to go out there (Chicago) tonight now. I asked the dude at Gamestop if there'd be security, and he looked at me like I was from Pluto. He said "Nah, it's just gonna be me and another guy working."

No joke my favorite music so far is the Russian music. I need to find out who is singing it. Also by the way the best TV show has to be the rip off of
lifestyle of rich and famous. It is so well written just flat out hilarious.

My guess is they were playing hookey from work/school and did not want to be seen on the televisions.
 
Oh man, I'm so eager to wait in line! My life has suddenly hit new pinnacle of awkwardness in being so eager to wait in line to buy a game.
 
Let me know if this game converts anyone who wasn't already a fan of the franchise. I hated San Andreas from the few hours of it that I played, but I loved Crackdown. Supposedly GTA 4 has much better combat controls than San Andreas and I like the setting better, so I might actually like this one. The off the charts reviews have certainly piqued my interest, but I remain skeptical after not being able to get into San Andreas no matter how hard I tried.

damn just got back and the line by 12pm was ridiculous but i got out by 12:30... FREE MONTH OF LIVE comes with it which is always a huge plus... but laker game is on so gta will have to wait til its over

I like GTA orginal pc and 3, but never cared for the others that came out on ps2. This one totally changed me around. It really is blood sweat and tears in the development in this game.

I'm waiting until I get out of school tommorow. No need to f'up a 9am class over this. just 3 weeks of school left. Not to mention I'm near South loop and CTA wants to do construction on the red line at night. ARGH!!!
 
Hey guys...sorry if this has been asked before. Will I have a problem picking this up sometime in the next couple of days at my localBest Buy, GameStop, or Target, etc?
 
I saw the reply about the 1 month live and got pissed thinking GS ripped me off by not giving me the card. The sign made it look like it was a freebie and not packed INSIDE the game. LOL just looked, haven't played yet only opened and peaked at the goodies getting online in a few. :D

Got my CE tonight was in and out in about 15 minutes and was probably the 40th person in line at GS. Drove by a Funco and another GS to the store by where I used to live and had preordered and it seems like EVERYONE was out at midnight!
