WHEN REPORTING TRADE-IN VALUES PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. Second post has the values for games/hardware for Microsoft devices. Third post has the values for games/hardware for Nintendo consoles and the fourth post has the values for Nintendo handhelds. Fifth post has the values for games/hardware for Sony consoles and the sixth post has the values for Sony handhelds.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.


What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2) *Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.
No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Just buy Kinect Adventures or some other used game for $1.

There should be no reason for the extra 30% bonus for trading towards used to conflict with the 20% birthday coupon, since they're technically on two different items, right? Looks like I'll be out of town later this week, and if I can find a store with decent employees, and these do stack (and that OoT 3DS value holds), it might be worth a try. Yes, I read the FAQ.

Since trading and purchasing are separate transaction types, you should have nothing to worry about.

Depends. Since he had a 320 GB HDD I assumed it was a 4 GB originally that had the HDD added seperately. If not (it's a Gears 3/Halo 4 system) then yeah it would have to be included. But if it's a Gears 3/Halo 4 system, I would sell it on Amazon/EBay/CL as you would get WAY more for it because it's a limited edition console.

It's a one time use coupon. I can confirm today that the coupon can be used on multiple games in one transaction. Picked up Bioshock Infinite, Crysis 3, Army of Two Devils Cartel, Dead Space 3, and Tomb Raider for $166 after coupon :)

Well this changes my view of the coupon then. Multiple games at 25% could definitely be worth the PUR points. Having that Birthday coupon though at 20% off and costs no PUR points is the only thing holding me back I guess. Thanks for the update though.

gamestop did give me 21$ after bonuses so its the samething, unless you mean 5$ more than what they would give me after bonuses :). but seriously i dont know why people are surprised as the game is on sale which always effects the used price

Trading in like that is losing money. Gamestop is making ridiculous amounts of money from games it buys for $1-5. Even new releases get only half their worth. They run a monopoly, having bought all gaming retails that have popped up. And we're stuck with them (except when Amazon and Best Buy throw some bones) The 50% offer was good though.

i was acually thinking about that on my way to work earlier. i dont remember gamestop bumping up the values after a sale is over though i could be wrong. as for amazon i dont use it nearly as much as i did two years ago, otherwise i would have sent it there

Thanks for the update though.[/QUOTE]I used a silmilar SOTW coupon in combo with a b2g1 sale & the discount was epic to say the least. 35% off each game & it stacked with the b2g1 not to mention this was when BB's TIV where quite high so massive credit moving along with instant backlog. The only bad part was I only had enuf PUR pts for 4 coupons & that the coupons expire so damn fast. There never seems to be any good deals worthy of my pts when I have 150,00 or more so the $50 off coupons wind up making things like the B:AC CE free.

That is still REALLY low. Dont understand why you didnt just keep it. Or sale it on craiglist. People will buy that game within a couple of days. Could of gotten $30 cash for it instead of 20 credit. That seems like a dumb trade, no offense. Even if it is on sale you didnt even get half of the sale price. I would of given you $30 for that game. Still waiting for $25-$30.

I sell things on Craigslist often, but the convenience of a sure thing is too tempting as long as you're not losing money. If I buy a game for $10 and I know I can get $15 for it at Best Buy or GameStop, then I'll go there and trade it in. That's because most games that you can get cheap aren't really worth selling on Craigslist. I'd rather guarantee that I get something out of it than play the waiting game on Craigslist (especially in a smaller city) and have the value for the game tank. On the other hand, I just got a free copy of Gears of War Judgement and no way am I trading that game in for a measly $30 or whatever. Just a case-by-case basis.

Yes case by case basis. Tomb raider is a hot pricey game. Not a $10 game. So GS was a bad way to go in this case.
 
another factor for frading it in is that ive geen hoarding a ton of credit at gamestop latley.. id rather hage tue credit safe in my card sthan sell it for 9$ more in cash. i know i would spend it if it was cash lol
 
Don't expect TR TIV to go back up: new copies went back up to $60 today but the used ones stayed at $45.

No worries man everyone has their reasons. THis way you cant buy anything but games haha. Cant wait to play the game myself. But not willing to spend much on it.
 
Here is a question for you guys, it's might not be the best place to ask, but it's in regards to a gamestop sale...I used the b2g1 free coupon I got for renewing my membership and picked up a game (pikmin 2 for wii) for my nephew, but it turned out he already has the game. I tried to swap it today (4 days after I bought it) but they wouldn't let me because it was the "free" game I got in the transaction. They said they could refund me the $0.00 I paid for it, but wouldn't let me exchange it for another game because it was a "coupon" and not a "sale". Should I try asking at another Gamestop, or am I stuck with a copy of pikmin 2?

I would try another gamestop. Ive been told in the past that i can exchange one game once the week after i use a b2g1 regardless of whether its the free one on the receipt. But its probably just ymmv. You can always return all 3 games but then you lose the use of the coupon.
 
I see both sides of the Gamestop argument. I certainly wouldn't have traded in Tomb Raider at only $15(even with bonuses), but that's just me. Personally, I hardly ever trade in games. I like to have a collection. The list of games I traded in were things I either now have on PC or can get very cheap. Here's what I traded in yesterday if you missed the post.

AvP is regularly down to $5 or less on Steam sales. I got Bioshock for free when I bought Bioshock Infinite on Steam. They're practically giving away Darksiders nowadays, and Darksiders 2 has been as low as $15. By the time I want to play it again I'm sure it'll be $5. Both Dead Island and L.A. Noire now go for $5 when on sale on Steam. I bought Just Cause 2 via Steam for a mere $3.74 a while back. In addition, I already own Half-Life 2 plus expansions, and Portal(got for free) on PC. Then, during their winter sales I saw the combo pack of Portal and Portal 2 for only $6. So getting Portal 2 again should cost me less than $5.

There's my justification for getting rid of those games to Gamestop. In total, with bonuses, I got $110. That completely paid for Injustice, my Game Informer renewal(call me silly, but I still like the magazine), and 85% of my pre-order of Dragon's Crown for Vita. A good trade I think.

With the promotion to get 30% extra credit towards the purchase of a pre-owned "product," can I trade in four games to buy something like Madden 99 and still get the extra 30%?

Slightly off topic, but I'm in the same boat. While I can't say that the quality of the magazine is great, I miss the time where my brother would get EGM in the mail in the mid-nineties, and when I would get PSM and OXM in the early part of last decade. It sucks how much the game magazine market has crumbled, but it was bound to happen. I still remember how blown my mind was when EGM told me what CDs could get you the rare monsters in Monster Rancher.
