FAQ
Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What states charge sales tax on purchases made with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Arkansas, California, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia,

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and cut the trade-in value in half. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has PSP/DS values.

[quote name='bigdaddybruce44']Exactly. I mean, you do realize that not every, single item a company sells is gonna work, right? I mean, I think we would expect them to maybe actually test these games, but this GameStop we're talking about. The way the first poster makes it sound, you're playing the lottery. i appreciate the help but the game is not in stock at any gamestop near me and i don't want to deal with calling them when they should have sent a working game in the first place. the game came in a black case despite the artwork/manual guarantee, and the disc is obviously resurfaced (poorly) and still has a deep ring around the outer edge. i will personally never buy a game online from them again.

The Artwork/Manual guarantee only guarantees the artwork and manual, not the color of the case.

Quit whining and just bring it to a Gamestop store with your packing slip and return it there. I bought 3 used copies of GH: Smash Hits less than a month after release date off the web site during a B2G1 sale and they took almost 2 weeks to arrive due to low quantities despite the website satying they should ship in 24 hours, and when they did arrive one had a cracked case and all had stickers on them that made it obvious that they were defective copies that were resurfaced. I just brought them all into the local store and they refunded my money (approx $100). Luckily, i used a free shipping code so that was not an issue either. Sure buying used off GS website can be a crapshoot, but they have lower used prices than in store for some games and you can often stack codes like CAG16, SAVER, and Edge card to get a decent price even without a B2G1 sale and if you get a bad one just return it.

The fact that the game is not in-stock is meaningless. You can still return the game for a refund, because it's obviously faulty. If you decide to be stubborn, though, just because they "should have sent a working game," well, that's your loss. You should still go and get your money back. If you don't, you just give GS more incentive to not have stronger quality control. And you let them get away with taking your money and sending you a non-functioning game.

So I traded in L4D2 and bought Bayonetta a few days back.

Today I went into another GS, returned the game, and just asked for credit, they don't seem to ask too many questions if it all stays credit. On the way home, stopped by another GS and picked up a used copy of Bayonetta for $50 used. Now I've got an extra $10 after it's all said and done.

God Bless game maneuvering.

i'm going to return the game today for credit and i guess wait it out until it's in stock near me or a b2g1 rolls around. it just sours me on the online experience, that's all. and seriously, how hard is it for people to not lose the original case? ugh i wish there was a serious trade-in value reduction if things are missing.

Well the case could be missing because it is a stolen game. Also, they may throw away the case to save money when they ship it to a warehouse or whatever.

Blockbuster replaces all the original cases with black blockbuster branded ones. Because of this, almost every blockbuster has a pile of green 360 cases/ white wii cases etc in the backroom. All you have to do is ask politely and they usually are happy to get rid of them.

just came back from gamestop n traded in 2 tekkens.

i got darksiders wich im keeping and bayonetta wich i want to return---thing is i forgot to ask for a gift receipt-totally forgot til i got home

my question is can i go back to the store n ask them if i can get a gift receipt for bayonetta since its going to be a gift n i dont want the person im giving it to, to see how little i paid due to trades n promotions?

this sounds like it should work and make my trade later on way easier-has anyone ever done this forgot to get a gift receipt n went back to get 1.

I had no trouble at all returning a game with just a normal receipt. Flat out said Amazon just had L4D2 for $35 bucks. Guy said that's pretty good, put the credit on my edge card and I was on my way.

As for your original question, I've no clue.

No, 29.75 was the base value for left 4 dead 2. The value with the 30% extra and 10% edge it came out to be 41.65 credit

[quote name='candymaker789']Yes, you should receive 35$ credit in the end.

So I know this is me probably being stingy, but nevertheless, I was cleaning out my wallet yesterday and saw the receipt for my recent trade-in. I traded in AC2 @ $25 + 30% add-on trade-in value. I told the clerk I was an Edge card, and he looked up my info. According to the receipt however, I was only given a total of $32 for my trade-in, rather than the suggest $35.

Can anyone confirm to me that this should be the case (before I call), that I should have received $35 rather than $32 on my trade-in? Assuming the math above is correct.

The math is correct, but you're not clear on what your receipt states. Does it say you got the edge bonus?

The only possible explanation for that is that they didn't give the edge bonus, because the employee didn't use your info for the bonus.
Go in and fix it, but it has to be when the manager is working as the manager is the only one capable of fixing your problem. I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago, except I straight up handed the guy my card and didn't get the credit.

Just take it back and say you bought it for a friend, but his mom got it for him or some BS excuse.

They can't print a gift receipt after your transaction is done. I asked for it the moment he gave me my receipt cuz I forgot and he said he couldn't. I went back 20 min later and did a return and they gave me the 42.xx for bayonetta and my credit. yay. He asked if it didn't work, I said I didn't even open it but my friend already had the game, oops. They could care less. on the receipt it says gift as reason for return and payment was trade in credit. no probs

Dang in the rush of things I didn't notice the employee just scanned my EDGE card for my store credit and didn't give me my 10% towards my trade in. I did the "trade game and get a $20 new game" promo. It isn't much but I'm angry I didn't get my $5 that I deserved for having an EDGE card :bomb:. What I also didn't realize was that since L4D's TIV was so high, I could have just traded it in with the 30% deal to get 41.XX. It dropped down to $25 but gamestop brought it back up . Anyone know if theres a way for me to go to another gamestop to get the $5 added back on my edge? I used this promo before and I have another reciept that clearly shows that you get the 10% extra TIV for EDGE along with the $20 price of a new game.

Just go back to the one they did the transaction at and show them the receipt and say they didn't add the 10% for Edge.

If they give you any lip about 'we can't go back and redo a transaction after it's been done', then ask for the district manager's number.

If they won't give you the DM's number, then call the 1-800 number for GS right in the store on your phone and ask them for the DM's number.

That ought to get them to go back and redo the trade transaction. That's what I had to do back when I traded in my old PS3 for the $150 promo in August along with a massive stack of games that I wanted the 30% bump promo towards Arkham Asylum on. After a week of back and forth I got AA for $25 out of cheap GS credit after they put in a 'promo' code to the system that took $30+ off it.

I know, it was down around $1.75 a while back and I saw it was listed as $8 from 1/10 but that must have been an error or a really short lived TIV increase. I just don't understand it though, at $1, they are expecting to sell the game for less than $10, or they just don't want any more copies. Either way doesn't make any sense. I would think it'd sell pretty well at $17.99 used.

Disappointed at the extra credit promo because of the limitation of only the current gen system. Also a lot of games went down in value when I went to check the trade-in values.

Updated first post with the two current promos listed on the website. Will update TIV values here in the next couple hours.

Thanks! Good to know. Should just go trade that in today. Since DS does not qualify for the promo, there is no point in trying to bundle it up with 360 games that I'd rather give to my sister.

^^What system?

Alright, I'm at school and so obviously can't think right now. I just want to be clear, the 7/$50 deal is better (if you have 7 games of course) for any game with a tiv under $27 right?
