GTA delayed to 2008

Wow. That sucks - at least I'll have a bajillion other games to keep me plenty busy. GTAIV will be perfect next summer when there's nothing else new to play.

are there any other huge games that were comign out the same time gta was going to be released? could be they were worried about competition so theyre going to release it at a less competitive time.

There's no way Take Two was worried about competition. Frankly, with all the footage of GTA I've seen, this isn't much of a surprise. It didn't have the feel of a title that was 2+ months away from completion. This is going to kill Take Two's stock.

What's that I hear? The sound of the rest of the game industry cheering and letting out sighs of relief?

They said AT LEAST April 2008. This makes me think it's coming next Christmas time. So, seeing as Microsoft now has a hole in their schedule of marketing genius, what comes in October now? A Playstation title? A pushup of Smash or Galaxy? DS glory?

EDIT: Pachter was right I guess. GTA got delayed :\

not really a big deal to me...there are a ton of games I wanted to get, and this should free up a great deal of time that was going to be dedicated to one game

I just read about this on Digg, really sucks, considering that GTAIV was my most anticipated title, but at least it takes the pressure off of a lot of other games this fall.

what hole...there are a ton of games coming out...isn't the orange box due in oct..guitar hero 3, rock band is in that time period...mass effect is about 2 weeks later...
What is taking them so long? Are they actually going to make a new running animation?
You be quiet..:boxing: You god :censored: piece of :censored: I am so :censored: upset and you're:censored: :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored: you!

Damnit!!!!!!!!!!

Well hopefully they'll use the time to improve the game, and hopefully it's not just a delay to avoid Halo 3 or any of the other big fall/winter games

Hey, I'd be upset and jealous if I was fucking me also and heard me talking about it.

!

Regretting selling my 360 about 27% less now.

I always had a feeling the game didn't look near complete enough.

this looks good for stock investors. stock goes down now, buy it when it hits 10-12 dollars, and then when the game comes out, sell like a motha!

Good this gives me more time to spend with Halo 3, Stranglehold, and several other games I will be purchasing by the end of the year.

From the little they've showed us, October was laughable, but I kept on believing.

Good thing there's plenty other games to play.
Sucks.

This is what really made me want a 360. I recently decided I'm going to wait until they stop making faulty hardware until I buy one, so this is sort of a good thing for me.

Have you followed the previous games? They've always shown very little about the game up until its release.

the last videos I saw of gameplay, the game really didn't blow me away, the same way the first teaser trailer did.The game needs more time to be done correctly the engine seems to have a couple of issues , IMHO!
Looks like they want to keep 360 sales down this year.

Its gonna be a very Wii Christmas.
Don't forget Halo.

Wasn't the idea of this being pushed back brought up back in June? Something about Take-Two basically giving up on 2007 and using GTA IV to boost their fiscal 2008 numbers.
Don't forget Halo.
And Mass Effect
And Bioshock
And The Orange Box
And Virtua Fighter 5
And Rock Band
Etc.

It's going to be a great year!
well twlight princess got delay for a year that turn out to be worth it
Nintendo sat on Twilight Princess so they'd have a real game to launch with the Wii.

Bummer about GTA I suppose but like others have said, there's still enough coming out that I probably won't notice missing out on GTA.
They should release the demo the magazine editors got to play as an "I'm sorry.... :( "
Don't get anyone's hope up with that. ;) It'll never happen.

No, it was to just push it back a few weeks to distance itself from Halo 3's release.

The 360! the Only system where you can play Halo and GTA IV this year! ohhh wait, you can't.... I think this effects the 360 more with it's exclusive d/l content and this was the 360's big action game, where as Sony has a bunch coming out. Either way, one less game in this very very crowded year of great games. But just think, Next year Quarter 2 you have MGS 4, Killzone 2, and GTA IV...

BTW, IGN said it was pushed back to Q2 of 2008, which meant feb - April.

Well, it's interesting to see that the general consensus is that Take Two would be unwise to expect to maximize sales in the sort of competitive environment as this holiday season.. but it'll give them time to polish the game. Although I agree in that it felt like it was nowhere near being finished (or if it is.. then somebody in marketing is a total fucking moron for relying on customer loyalty, name recognition, and one demo film to promote the product).. they can no longer depend on people buying the game simply because you can steal cars and screw hookers for health (because lets face it.. GTA did it, and now numerous games have copied it, so the game is going to have to exceed expectations to stand out). Of course they could make a turd on a disc and slap the logo on it to get sales (like Madden, or similar to the way Square Enix thinks that their brand equals sales no matter how horrible the game is).. but it'll catch up with them in the long run.

This sure is a funny industry.. think of Kia's, Sylvania electronics, etc. They get poor reviews/ratings in the press, so they drop MSRP's to increase customer value to in order to achieve sales. In gaming.. the equivalent of a queef on a disc sells for the same MSRP as a quality and fun title, yet they wonder why over-saturation of titles reduces sales.. especially when a few reviews can make or break your quarterly (or sometimes evey yearly) forecasts.

It isn't us (the people that take more than a casual interest in gaming) that generate huge sales or profits.. it's Joe Blow the average gamer, who will probably only own Halo, GTA, and Madden on his 360 (and probably preorder it from Gamestop because the clerk sells him on the thought that he won't get it otherwise).. that generates the revenues.

On a side note.. this means that when Duke Nukem Forever comes out, it will be the most amazing, mind blowing, kick ass, mindgasm, like-Kubrick-made-a-video-game experience imagineable :)

Dont fool yourself into believing this delay was for any other reason than the game is not ready.

I have no problem waiting for this when theres sooo much goodness coming for the Wii60.

What about Sony tho? I thought GTA was set to launch for the PS3 in Oct as well? I bet Sony was counting on GTA IV to pop hardware sales this holiday season.

I think this is going to be used to Sony's advantage. Or at least they should. Right now, October is Phantom Hourglass time, at least right now. You might say Halo 3's time, but if you don't pick up Halo 3 before September 30th, you've pretty much decided that you will suck at playing the game for all time. Sony could drop Ratchet and Clank there, and possibly another PS3 title, as well as Home.

Don't kid yourself. The 360 has more coming out than GTA IV this holiday season. I think it hurts Sony just the same, if not more. We all know Halo 3 will be a big seller, where is Sony's multimillion dollar seller this holiday? I also didn't think this was 360's big action game. I am not sure, but I think Halo 3 might be able to fill it's shoes. Just a hunch.

According to all the "experts", Halo 3 was expected to outsell GTA on the 360. This will hurt Sony a lot more than the 360...what's the fallback this holiday to people who had $60 pegged on GTA if you own a PS3? There's also word that "a lot of PS2" fencesitters were waiting on GTA to make their PS3 purchase. Doubt all of them will wait another 6+ months to get into the next gen...

Halo is a FPS, not an action game. Multimillion dollar seller? Well, Ratchet clank has always sold well, all of Naughty Dog's games have sold well, and they have a game called Unreal Tournament coming, you heard of it?

MS was banking on GTA a lot more than Sony was.

As someone else said, Pachter nailed it, although for the wrong reasons. Most of the buzz about the GTA4 demos that the press has seen has been tempered with the revelation that the game, at least on the 360, seems to be struggling to even run properly.

GTA4 was one of the reasons I wanted a 360 this fall. Guess this announcement gives me a little more time to save up and hopefully get a 65nm version.

Mainly because MS spent millions on exclusive GTA content, Ratchet and Clank will probably sell very well, but the limited user base will most likely keep sale below 2 million.

If you think UT3 sales are going to hold a candle to Halo 3, you are out of your fucking mind.

The R&C franchise has sold well, but the games are not systems sellers any more than Naughty Dog's games are. Uncharted is not a system seller, it is Tomb Raider with a dude.

Halo 3, OTOH, is a bonified system seller and you can bet that 80% or more current 360 holders are going to buy it and those without a 360 (that were past Halo players) are going to pick one up by September.

I think Sony needed GTA4 a helluva lot more than MS, especially with the MGS4 delay.

A game that's only available on one system selling more than one whose sales will be split across two platforms? What an unexpected prediction. ;)

It hurts both systems, as nobody's going to be buying either system for that game.

Wow, I was never a huge gta fan but I'm kind of disappointed. Hopefully this guarantees the game will at least be good.

Well, this blows. Just when October 16th was starting to seem not so unbearably far away anymore. Still, I'd rather wait another 6 months or more and get a great finished game than see them push something subpar out the door just to make the launch date.

On the bright side, like a few other people have already said, this makes the urgency of getting a 360 much, much less for me. I guess I'll just wait to see what kind of deals or bundles come along this holiday season and also keep an eye on the 65nm chip situation.
