Well, I'm flip-flopping again. I think I'm gonna go for the RB2 drums, and here's why:
When I tried the WT drums at a Best Buy today, I found myself annoyed by the fact that I was hitting pads on 2 different planes, while the onscreen notes were all laid out on a single horizontal plane. There's nothing on the in-game note charts to differentiate the cymbals. Red and Yellow notes have identical "icons" and appear right next to each other onscreen, but their physical counterparts don't match at all.
This may not seem like a big deal, but IMO it makes the WT drums feel counterintuitive compared to the RB2 drums. RB2 drums give you a straight line of pads that matches exactly what you see onscreen (as opposed to the "zigzag" created by the WT drumkit arrangement).
Even if I mastered the pad/cymbal combo, I know my friends would find the arrangement frustrating and confusing - and as this game is one of the most socially accessible games out there, I wanna keep my guests happy! As silly as that sounds, I consider it a pretty major factor.
The next natural question is to consider what I'd be missing by passing on the WT kit. One extra input... which won't be coming up much unless I'm playing on expert. I honestly don't see myself playing drums much on expert... especially the sadistic Neversoft interpretation of "expert."
But still, I must consider the fact that I won't
quite be able to play expert GH tracks the way the developers intended. But on the flip-side, by turning the yellow input into a forced cymbal, I wouldn't be playing a lot of
RB tracks the way
Harmonix intended. Well, based on DLC, I have a much greater investment in RB - therefore RB wins! For me, the need for a "faithful" RB experience outweighs the need for a faithful WT experience. So I shall get the RB2 drums, and settle for slightly dumbed-down WT tracks when the time comes.
Long winded, yes, but maybe some people on the fence will see where I'm coming from
