Gunman Kills 9, including self at Omaha Mall
The radio was saying an AK-47 assault auto gun. Who the hell knows. And you'd be correct in your definition of such.
Oh right, that. They might as well have called it "The Battle Rifle from Halo 3" for all the help their description provides.

Anyhow, yeah, the kid looks like a douche. Not in a "gangsta-douche" way either. In a "I love videogames" way.

It's over, videogames are finished.

I've been worried about this lately.

I don't know how much more the government is going to take. There seems to be an ever increasing amount of so called "video game related violence" in the country. I'm honestly worried that more politicians are going to start opposing games and this is going to become a big deal.

If the US Army has anything to say about it no laws will be passed to prevent M-rated games getting to the hands of minors. The US Army uses America's Army as a recruitment tool and violent video games help desensitize us to the real thing.

Just my consipiracy theory tho. ;)

guess he got tired of being called a Noob in Halo 3

No shit. I was going to say that he instantly reminded me of what I visualize roughly 40% of the gaming 'community' to look like. Most of the other 60% resembling Harry Knowles or Drew McWeeny at various stages in their arrested developments.

seriously what's up with the return of the 70's hair cuts on today's teens?

I think it's largely a cyclical reaction* to the spiky, producted-to-death hair of the 'boy band era', as well as the Fred Durst/Marshall Mathers/random mook close-cropped look of the rap-metal heyday. Also, Napoleon Dynamite made dorks somehow in vogue for five minutes, provided they have funky hair. Lastly, it's a messy haircut, which frames a stupid or stoned face much more naturally.

Basically, I think it's the 'do that most conforms with their inherent need to be a douche.

P.S. To be fair, please note that if most of these shaggy-haired fucks were to get a more 'business-like' haircut, they are basically an extra from Revenge of the Nerds. And in real life, that guy doesn't get to do it with a cheerleader 'on the moon'.

*--And it should be over right...about...(checks watch)...now.

CNN just had a piece on this guy.

I was going to lament about the number of people who now feel "unsafe" in shopping malls, and how it's an absurd sort of naive white-suburban-folk fantasy to believe that shopping in the mall gives one a "cred" of some sort - and, of course, the kinds of folks who said on an NPR interview, without irony, "the police barricaded the mall; we went shopping, we didn't know what else to do."

But there was a brief mention about how Hawkins was recently hired on at McDonald's...and was fired within a week. I'm intrigued by that. How the fuck do you get fired from a McDonald's? I'm going to consider that as a potential litmus into his persona. I'm interested in hearing more.

The first thing I did after hearing about the shooting? Went to the Apple Store at Kenwood Towne Centre. I needed some things. And then I got a venti Verona coffee at Starbucks (no, no room for cream, thanks), stopped by the watch place to get a link taken out of my band, smirked somewhat amused by the kids hanging out on Santa's lap getting photos taken (and this is an upscale white-neighborhood mall, so they get the Santa with the real beard, and who doesn't smell like lysol, urine, Pall Malls, and Wild Turkey).

What? Are you going to think twice before going to a mall? Get back under your blanket and go back to bed.

No way, might buy a gun though, in movies the mall shoot-outs look fucking sweet. I deffo could have taken that guy, quickdraw style.

I heartily roffle'd at the yuppie paragraph.

I thought about this, actually. I almost wonder if the kid was walking around Columbine/Jihad style, with the weapon at his hip and just opening up on people... or if he actually fired like a normal person. 'Cause if it was the former, the coppers wouldn't have had any trouble, had they arrived sooner. :x

The fact people here and on the news are the reason 8 people are dead. You post his picture everywhere and talk about how he's crazy. I fucking know he's crazy without his picture! All this will lead to is more crazy people who will kill to be famous.

And he looks like a drag queen.

A rifle from the hip? C'mon, hombre, you know your gun stuff.

You take yer mother country and her half a dozen gun-related deaths per year for granted, John Wayne. You are truly an American now.
Shooter: Robert A. Hawkins

Looks to me like just another douche bag kid trying to be remembered with all the other spree shooters. What an idiot.

Parents,if your kids wear emo glasses, sport shaggy hair, or wear knit scarves all year long...please put them on pills and keep em away from firearms.

He looks like the D&D kid from Freaks and Geeks.

So WTF are they doing posting his picture all over TV and the internet? He said he was doing it to be famous, so they decide to give him exactly what he wanted??? That pisses me the fuck off.

I have a friend in Omaha, I actually called her at like 3 am last night after I heard about this to make sure she was alright. It's weird because I'm a few hours away from VA Tech, and she freaked when the shootings happened there, too.
Ok. My motivation to carry a licensed sidearm has now skyrocketed. We need to be like the Old West again. If everyone learned to use a gun properly and carried, no one would do stupid shit like this because if you blast one guy for no apparent reason, you'd get dropped right away by a bystander (hopefully).
Until you do, I guess you'll have to shop when I do.
He looks like the D&D kid from Freaks and Geeks.

.
That pisses me off too. They should only put up post-mortem pictures of these losers, or maybe photoshopped versions with a 1000 wangs sprouting from their heads.

He had been accused of stealing $17 dollars from the register. If I can find the link to the article with that bit of information, I'll post it.

i thought for sure they weren't going to plaster his picture everywhere, if only b/c he outright said 'i'm going to be famous' but.... there he is on the front page of yahoo and every news site, and news channel

i realize that news producers actually high five each other and cheer when massacres happen, but making it THIS obvious is freakin ridiculous
