[quote name='OldSchool77']about the upscaling of games, the first Uncharted is 720P but Uncharted 2 is 1080P and so is Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time according to the boxes. I didn't know that the 20GB PS3 didn't have WiFi those buyers were ripped off since my launch 60GB had WiFi, HDMI, 4 USB ports, and all the media slots and it was about $600 as well  I remembered that there is a way to force the PS3 to upscale the games to 1080P but they didn't really look any better.
I did a little research into it and if the TV has a native resolution of 1080P then 720P signals fed to it are automatically scaled to 1080P using the TV's hardware. I guess the image quality just depends on the TV used since the people on the forums I was reading couldn't agree on whether to force 1080P or not. For the component cables it depend on the TV, some don't accept 1080P signals through it. I know the current and future TVs won't accept 1080P signals over component including those from a PS3 due to Digital Copyright protection

we live in 2 different world's man. uncharted 2 on my ps3 from the day it released til the day i traded it (it's in my trade feedback) was in 720p. my tv is native 1080p. i tried the upscaling force
on that game, and it looked hoorible. you are right about the box, though, as that's why i was major pissed. i got mine on release day so figured it was a misprint. put it in & go to any multiplayer or single player level, tap the 'guide' button on your native 1080p tv, and tell me what it says. i did this with 3 different tv's, all the same result.
also, i just tried my component cables for ps3 the other day when it was in the news that sony was doing away with component & HAD to use HDMI (which Sony clarified was only for BR). the only thing that won't work is blu ray on component cables (but my tv is 2 years old). i played the pixeljunk shooter 2 mp demo just fine in 1080p. i have the 80gb that was released at the same time as the mgs4 120gb bundle (i think that's the memory amount). it has 2 usb & no media slots.
the native 1080p tv that i have does not automatically upscale the 720p signals from the ps3. the 1080p games show up in 180p, and the 720p games show up in 720p. you can change settings on the ps3 that will force it to 1080p, but it looks way worse than the 720p did. on the other hand,
EVERY signal that i get from my 360 is in 1080p and looks better than the same game on ps3 in every case i've tried it, and through every demo i've checked on both systems. none of them are actual from either system EXCEPT the god of war collection. it is native 1080p. the ps3 games have to upscale through software, that's why every game is different. gt5 is upscaled 1080p (i play forza so no need to try and race on a crappy controller), that's about it (never been interested in the R&C games, so count that one, even thought he back of the box is wrong for uncharted 2, lol). the 360 upscale is not crappy looking upscaling. it looks amazing. i was so disappointed seeing GTAIV on ps3 after playing it to 98.5% completion on 360 (over 100 hours, but a freakin' pigeon glitched on me so i couldn't get them all. that was the day my 360 almost learned how to fly).
you can see the difference with your eyes, bro. i don't have to rely on the 'info' or 'guide' button (but i do ALWAYS check to make sure i am right). i used to know everything about tv's until august '09 when i lost my job & wasn't around them 24/7. you might be right about the different tv's, but i know consoles just about as well as you know pc's & i'd be willing to bet anything that i'm right about the stuff in this statement (especially uncharted2, and it's by experience, not from some wiki that anyone can change, lol. i don't use those), BECAUSE if there's a patch that can make uncharted 2 1080p, and sony hasn't used that patch on every f'ing sony game. screw them. just screw them.
