Keepin' it real.

Hmm, I got kicked off Live, and when I signed back on, none of my friends are on. I optimistically load up Crackdown, and now the "download Halo 3 beta" button is missing. What the deuce?

also X: that ytmnd is amazing.
This is what Bungie is doing to us:

lol im not such a HUGE halo fan but wen ur talking about a game that (can i say it?) MILLIONS OF PPL love and the newest part of it thats SUPPOSED to be out isnt, well then "I pity the fool". lol. come on bungie WTF?

This probably isn't funny, but, What if something so bad happened that they just ended up having to "give out" the beta on XBLM. How pissed would you be that you have Crackdown?
I just noticed no Halo 3 Beta button, as well, a minute ago. But it must have just been a slight glitch or something.
or maybe their working on fixing it..

That's what I figured they would end up doing.

They should have just put a slip with a Beta code in the Crackdown case. I guess they were worried about the market getting flooded with used copies.

I wouldn't be pissed at all. Crackdown is a very good game.
That's what I figured they would end up doing.
I'd initially thought about that as well, but then I thought of how easy it probably is to change the button option with a quick title update.

Just make it so it sends your gamertag to bungie, and it sends you a code via xbl message.

Then again that wouldn't fix their whole "must have crackdown inserted to play" thing.

Well, I would consider your opinion a minority.

I must say, I rented crackdown again just for this H3 beta, as crackdown totally blows. My main complaint with crackdown is aiming system, but that is not the issue right now. My suspicions are inline with surfer - I imagine the issue with the H3 beta as opposed to a normal demo or even a diff. beta (shadowrun?) is the whole crackdown disc required thing. I couldn't begin to have an educated guess on what technically is wrong, but it seems like some pre-testing to make sure the game DL's properly would have been done.
Did they put some part of the Beta on the disc to make the DL size smaller for all the crackdown peeps, and now they can't mesh?
Did they have an issue with putting up a recent beta build (ala F&F update) on the MS servers?

Eitherway, an ETA or an earliest time to check back w/ bungie for info would go a long way to sooth my fanboy anger.
I would say your opinion is in the minority.
And I would say that you're wrong with Crackdown being in the top 3 sellers of 360 games, as well as an 84% ranking on gamerankings. If you give the game a longer play than the "demo", you'll find a good game.

I bought Crackdown for the game, not the beta. It is a very good game, issues and all.

That being said, 10 hours later, and they haven't even updated the situation besides the " We Know" message. That's just not right.

That's already been debunked on the Bungie forums I believe, that was always the time posted on the Australian Xbox site.

I'm sure those sales are purely based on Crackdown's merits alone. there's nothing else that could possibly drive sales of the game... ;) if people paid $3000 for PS3s, they'll surely pay $60 for 3 weeks with Halo 3 before release.

anyway, I've never played the full version of Crackdown, but the demo was all about killing gangstas (yawn) and jumping high..not my cup of tea but I'm sure fans of sandbox games appreciate the ability to use special powers and stuff.

The fun of crackdown lies not in "killing gangstas" (does anybody do anything but instantly push B/Skip whenever the story/video sequences come up?) but in the sandbox nature of the gameplay. Doing things like in co-op with a friend, deciding you're going to each try to get a police car to the top of the Shai-Gen tower, throw it upwards, and see if you can race the car to the bottom, bonus points for having the car hit you on the ground. Or in seeing how you can get the SUV to drive up buildings, or create nuclear cataclysmic explosions. Or any other kind of madness you can think of. It's such a great game and I'm sick of people saying it is just a $60 halo 3 beta.

they will probably extend the beta a few more days because of this. At least lets hope. Otherwise its not that bad if they give us more days to make up for this delay.

But it is just a 60 dollar Halo 3 Beta, guaranteed people will get more time out of the Halo beta than they did Crackdown. Game took like 6 hours to beat if that.

Sandboxing really isn't fun either.

No offense. But I, like others, paid $60 for a Halo 3 Beta. Am I mad? Sure. But am I stupid? Yes. Paying $60 for a UNFINISHED game is silly. To say it's a $60 Beta with a game is just dumb if you ask me.

like i said, fans of sandbox games probably like the super power stuff. I think it's a step in the right direction-- I'm sick of playing as normal joes in GTA.

face it-- the game's sales were significantly spurred because of Halo 3. There's no way it would be 3rd place in sales otherwise. $60 for a beta isn't crazy-- after selling a God of War 2 demo for $20, a Dead Rising T-shrit and map for...$65!, and 360s for $1000, it's clear to me that some gamers are nuts and rich.

like Jim said, I think they'll get their $60 worth of gameplay. I actually find it stranger that people are reserving regular editions of it already...oh noes!1 They might not make enough halos!11

So, someone that I highly respect, Nick Nunziata of CHUD, is opening fire on the Halo 'community' for the teeth-gnashing and tantrum-throwing. And he's right on so many points. However, what he's conveniently overlooking is that many of us are angry or frustrated because we're not getting answers over ten hours later and this sort of delay for this sort of game is fucking inexcusable. Pleas for reason aside, everyone knew that the reaction would be like this, so why allow it to happen?

No, the world won't end, most will forgive and forget minutes after it becomes available, but this is just another dent in Microsoft's increasingly banged-up reputation. We at least have a right to know what the fuck is going on.

Honestly I don't have a problem with the fact that the demo isn't out yet. I am happy I am getting a beta. But what pisses me off is the fact that bungie had a countdown clock and this was supposed to be out at 5AM. SO I set my alarm clock to 5 AM to download the beta so that way when I come home from work I can play it.

So thus I woke up at 5 AM. And to my surprise no beta. I wait an half an hour, still no beta, then I wait another half an hour still nothing.

I am just pissed that I lost an hour of sleep today and that it still isn't out, despite the fact that a time was set.

XBOX SAYS THE NEED TO PUT THE PATCH IN FOR HALO 3 SO IT WILL BE 24 TO 48 HRS. TO PLAY HALO 3... XBOX CANT SUP. THE GAME.... HA HA THIS CAME FROM A PERSON WHO WORKS FOR XBOX LIVE......
Got this off of an xbox.com forum and wasn't sure if CAGs knew about it.

I feel bad for you, because clearly this is going to be a main factor of gaming in the future.

Personally, the beta was a bonus. I paid $60 for a fun game. It may not have been fun for you, but you're in the minority.

It was fun for what it was worth, but I'm certainly not in the minority in buying Crackdown for the Halo 3 beta.

On a side-note, why would you write that you "feel bad" for me? You clearly don't, so what's the point of writing it? I never quite understood why people incorrectly use phrases like that all the time.

I'm using it along the lines of pity. Maybe a remedial English class?

edit: nevermind fuck it, it's not even worth it. I'll be the bigger man.
