Halo 3 - General Discussion & Info
Halo 2 got leaked early shortly after it went gold, he's predicting the same for Halo 3...which I wouldn't doubt.
i agree with the leak, although it probably won't reach nearly as many people. i believe this due to the smaller amount of modded (through DVD modification) 360s versus those on the regular xbox.

I don't think there will be a large leak...You notice that they only let you see what they want you to and these "leaks" are probably a marketing ploy done by M$ to get you hyped. Theyve kept this under wraps.

No. There will be a leak of the retail game.
No. There will be a leak of the retail game.
What he said.

You think they wanted Halo 2 to get leaked? People posted descriptions of the entire campaign story within days of it going gold. It's pretty easy to avoid though I found.
Why the hell would any worker at bungie want to leak and possibly lose money off the game.?
Shit happens. IDK if you're arguing or just raising a point. There's not much to argue, since the precedent has been set.
Why the hell would any worker at bungie want to leak and possibly lose money off the game.?
Because when it goes gold that means it's left Bungie and is heading into the manufacturing and distribution chain.

You're completely wrong, btw. Also, the " I don't argue " thing was a terrible way out of facing facts.

Oh, and the strategy guide supposedly comes out 11 days before the game. I don't quite understand why people want to spoil shit.
Or pay for a strategy guide
Or even USE a strategy guide.

Seriously, if you require aid playing through the campaign, you shouldn't even be buying the game in the first place.

For certain achievements, I guess it is okay to use a guide. BUT NOT for a level-to-level walkthrough. That shows you are a weak-ass gamer.

Plus, you can always use xboxachievements.org or something.

Haha, so true. I got one with halo2 from target, opened it once to look at the colorful pictures. What a waste of paper.

I'll undoubtedly get the guide...but won't use it. I have the other 2, and I think I've flipped through a few pages in either one.

I probably will use some kind of guide or FAQ for the skulls achievements in H3. If they are as hard to find as they are in Halo 2....a FAQ or guide is pretty much a given.

Well, those strategy guides do have nice layouts of the basic multiplayer maps, right? Not that I'm saying one should buy a guide just for that.

I really wish they included bots you could practice with.* I just don't have the time or the fortitude to deal with trying to improve by going up against only the 'community'.

*--I really get the impression that Bungie has some sort of almost philosophical opposition to this entire concept, as either they don't want to encourage even a small group of people to occasionally stay offline while playing multiplayer mode games (as this would take away from their numbers to boast about), or they have some sort of, pardon the pun, 'elitist', Darwinian mentality where they sadistically insist on people getting their asses handed to them while getting shit-talked and teabagged ad nauseum, in the remote hope that this 'tough love' will make them better. I don't know, maybe for this reason alone I'll end up enjoying UT III more, if and when it hits for the 360. As that series proves, quality bot play can be constructive fun.

On the contrary; I get much more pissed when I get beat by the computer than when I get beat by a human opponent. But perhaps this is because often, say in a fighter, you get beat by the same guy with the same moves over and over. I haven't played with FPS bots since UT2004 and I thought it was cool, but IMO human opponents bring the most fun to the table.

Are you sure you don't put your bots on super easy? Just kidding.

There is no reason for bots, what with XBL and guest features for splitscreen on XBL.

I feel for you getting your ass handed on XBL, but, honestly, you really shouldn't be.... competition isn't all thatstiff.

As good as you may be... isn't there always someone who is better? I'm unstoppable unless my blood sugar goes low from forgetting to eat or if I run out of weed and Kodiak. Haha....jk.

I don't know if any of you guys saw this, but Halo 3 was the final surprise game for Omegathon round 6 at PAX. Minibosses came out and played the Halo 3 theme and then the two finalists played to a huge crowd with 2 giant screens on a couple new maps with a bunch of unreleased weapons. Twas very cool in person... It was like being at a Korean Starcraft match the way people reacted to everything:

They are probably against bots becasue they take a long time to program for them to be halfway decent. That programming probably takes up valuble space on the disc and they also realize that players can have such a better time on XBL than with playing with bots.
As good as you may be... isn't there always someone who is better?
Maybe in high ranked team Slayer (like level 38 or above) but there is nothing saying that the guy can't play unranked, where everyone sucks.

Or in level 20+ Team Hardcore...or is it 25+ I forget. I haven't played much since the last rank reset.

If you want some stiff competition there Pyro, go there.

I never, ever won a game of Halo 2. I have been on the winning team on team games, but never once did I win individually. Every time I may have gotten a bit better my "TrueSkill" rank would get bumped up.

35+ for me, but it all really depends on if you go in with a to3/to4 or by yourself. I hate going in by myself because you never know how talented the people on your team are going to be. With a to3/to4, you atleast know how good your teammates are.

!

Friggin MLG. Highest I ever hit in Hardcore was a 29...and even that was only for like a few days. Yeesh. I never go in by myself for that same reason, in fact IDK why anyone goes in by themselves.

I have gotten seven accounts to a 30 or higher =P. But its not that im more skilled than any other person though, in Halo 2 it gets to a point where most people your playing is just as skilled as you, its just how you play as a team that seperates you from everyone else.

I just think having bots would allow one to get a better feel for the maps and what strategies to use, even if I fully concede that much of the latter element would have to be tweaked to accomodate for human unpredictability. I personally would practice against the lower-level bots to acclimate myself with the maps 'n' modes, and would only jump online when I could 'hold my own' against the higher-level ones. Believe it or not, I don't like to lose and/or feel incompetent.

I agree with the sentiment that Wombat expressed on a "CAGcast" around the Halo 3 beta, in that it's just discouraging to jump into match after match and get destroyed, and the only way to 'get the experience' is to drudge your banged-up MJOLNIR armor and spirit right back in and....

I find it hard to believe that anyone above a level 35 was legit. Anytime we faced those ranks we got hacked.

I'm still curious as to what CAGtac's ranks would be if we wouldn't have gotten fucked.

The days of getting cheated every game when your that high of a rank is long gone. Some people can still cheat but its not that often.
I remember playing level 30+ people, and them just suckin' dog dick.
At Hardcore? Yeah in Slayer a level 30 didn't mean much until you hit near level 40, but level 30+ hardcore players were usually MLG caliber types.

Most 30+ were cheaters, actually.

Although cheating was prevalent at above 35, it was still possible to evade (box host anyone?). The Highest I got was 39, and I was one game away from getting to 40, but I was cheated, so I of course took the game out, said enough was enough and waited for GOW to come out. It helped that Halo 2 was gettign abandoned at that point anyway. I play occasionally now days, maybe 1 or 2 games every 2 weeks.

Also, I did not cheat at all to get to my 39, if any of you were wondering.
Most 30+ were cheaters, actually.
A fair amount were sure, but the ones that played through the whole game certainly showed why they were ranked so high. But yeah, I probably overstated.

Also are we talking about ranks in Hardcore or TS? I don't really care about TS (it is still fun tho) since it's not the MLG gametypes...

Okay, I need some clarification on something...

Some people are saying Legendary does NOT come with the steelcase CE. But then some people are saying it IS included. Does anyone know for a fact which is true?

Pretty sure it doesn't. The LE also doesn't have the Hardcover artbook, which is horseshit. $130, I expect get absolutely everything that CE gets.

Yeah, I didn't think so, but according to IGN..

Legendary Edition: $129.99 (USD) - Includes everything from the Collector's Edition plus the "Legendary DVD" and Master Chief Helmet Replica which can fit on your cat's head. The Legendary DVD comes with an expanded Bestiarum, remastered cinematics from Halo and Halo 2, and storyboard art.

I think I remember reading that, it's part of their new Halo 3 FAQ right? I'm fairly certain it's wrong. One of the Bungie Weekly Updates listed exactly what was coming with each set, and yeah, no Art Book for the LE and no Steel cover.

Ah well. My local Walmart is very lax when it comes to returns without reciepts. Hopefully the basic version has the proper barcodes and such so I can just exchange it and pay the extra 10$
