Halo 3 - General Discussion & Info

The graphics are sick. I was thinking after the beta Halo 3 would be the ultimate polished Halo 2 in terms of control/play with some new guns, saving match replays, etc. But it ends up much more, especially for the graphics whores.

Hopefully the reviews sound off and agree with what I'm reading/seeing. Can't wait to get my copy from liongames (save $20 and wait a day or two for the win) and hope Microsoft/Bungie somehow keeps the cashcow going. Theres no way the sales are going to stop at Halo 3.
so if i was to order this at amazon.com and get the free shipping would i get it on launch day
According to my order, you should get it between the 28th and the 5th

This is not some universal question, or a 'are you high?' topic. This is the honest to goodness truth. I am conflicted about whether or not to get Halo 3. When I bought a 360, I did not solely buy it for Halo 3. I also don't have XBL Gold at the moment, but am close to getting my subscription renewed any day now. I am sure a lot of 360 owners are going to get Halo 3 and are going to love it. But, I am not completely sold.

Here are a list of reasons why I am conflicted:

- I did NOT finish Halo 1
The 4th and 5th levels in the game were completely lacking of original ideas, where I go into copies of the same room 7 or 8 times in a row, boring me to death. I honestly couldn't take much after this.

- I did NOT play Halo 2
I didn't have an Xbox, and I feel $30 is still too much for it.

- I am not a fan of the FPS genre
I like TPS a lot. At least the two I've played (3 if you count RE4 twice) were of my liking (yeah, I liked the last level in Gears). I've played Bioshock, and thought it was great, but not as good as it was made out to be. I guess it's mainly the whole I'm playing sort of thing, not I'm controlling person X that has me a bit freaked out about the genre. Even in Oblivion I could mold the character into an image of my choosing.

- I S-U-C-K at multiplayer
I'm the annoying skinny weakling picked last for soccer everytime for good reason. But, it doesn't mean time couldn't make me better. I haven't played a lot of FPS's to know a lot of strategy in game.

Right now I am leaning towards not getting Halo 3 (like 60-40 here). I humbly ask you to help me out here. The Halo 3 E3 teaser did get me a bit excited for it, I'll admit that. I would ask you to help me out by giving me CONCRETE reasons instead of rants like 'OMG, itz Halo 3' or 'Halo is teh bomb' or something like that.

If a mod feels this thread should be locked, so be it. I'll go post this same thing in another thread where I'm sure it'll get lost in the pile of hype. But I'm sure I'm not the only one who is having this dilemma. And in CAG fashion, I have a contingency plan in place where if I am swayed to get Halo 3 I have a deal picked out for it.

I thank you.

I think you answered your own question

I hate the hype for this game, but it's also kinda getting to me.

Like I said, I'm not a FPS genre fan, but that's because I haven't played a lot of FPS's before (like 3-4 ever).

It doesn't matter if you can list 100 valid points on why you shouldn't buy it. You would still be a fool not to get it. This is one of those rare watershed moments in gaming like the hype for Super Mario Bros. 3 and Ocarina of Time.
so if i was to order this at amazon.com and get the free shipping would i get it on launch day
Absolutely not.

So you hated Halo 1, didn't play Halo 2 because it's $30 and you suck at the main reason to buy it, the multiplayer?

If you have to ask, sure go ahead and buy it.

It's not that I didn't like Halo 1. It's that I didn't finish it because of the repetitive nature that game had on those 2 levels. I would've given Halo 1 at least an 8 until there.

Just wait till the price drops or something (well, it's going to be a loooong loooong time, just like Oblivion). That or just play it on a friend's 360 and see if you do like it. I didn't care much for the first two, but something about the 3rd's multiplayer made me happy compared to the others.
so if i was to order this at amazon.com and get the free shipping would i get it on launch day
You'd have to get overnight for that to even have a chance of happening.

I don't think you should get if you don't even like the first 2. There is no point in getting it, you'll just hate it like the other 2.
I don't think you should get if you don't even like the first 2. There is no point in getting it, you'll just hate it like the other 2.
I absolutley hated the first 2... heck I can't stand being near them or hear the word about them, but I give Halo 3 the benefit of the doubt due to the amount of time, money, effort, and dedication the first two games have forced part 3 to be. Plus forge is the biggest selling point for me.
I wouldn't get it now. Just wait until the price goes down or you can get it at a great price. It'll go down in about 6 months i think.
see oblivion...

Price changes aren't magic they are connected to the market forces and this game won't need a price drop for at least a year. If you are thinking about waiting for a price drop think again cause you will end up breaking at the 6 month point with the same amount of money removed from your wallet.

Then again you could argue you earned 6 months of interest on your 60 bucks woohoo.
If you're going to risk your job and quite possibly your life by selling this early.... do it for more than $50 au.
Anyone else think that MS is going to go after the guy who bought that copy?
Anyone else think that MS is going to go after the guy who bought that copy?
If they did they would be foolish. Who WOULDN'T try to buy this? The only person they should be going after is the person who sold it, and from there find out how exactly he got it...

Just because you didn't finish a game doesn't mean that you didn't like it. I LOVE Ninja Gaiden but I never finished, so I mean you if want to try and play Halo 3 just do it. I am sure it will retain it's trade in value for awhile.
Halo 3 wont be down in price for at least 2 years. How long did it take halo 1 and 2 to drop.
Halo 2 dropped real quick IIRC. Mostly because almost everyone else who wanted it, bought it on day 1 or at least by Christmas. I remember seeing it for $30 around 3-4 months after it came out.
Anyone else think that MS is going to go after the guy who bought that copy?
I think they will go after the distributor or the Store that sold it but not the customer thats not good marketing on Microsoft's part. If guy was selling thousands then of course they would hunt him down and rip out his heart but not for two copies that he has already sold on eBay.

EDIT: it is crazy to think that distributors already have it. There is no way this guy got it from a retail store, if that was true you are going to be hearing A LOT more stories about Target and Walmart doing the same thing.

Well also with Halo games it really depends on how much you like the multiplayer, I love Halo ( played about half) and Halo 2 (Played through once and only once) Now multiplayer on the other hand I still play so thats where the value is going to be.
sucks that it's on a weekday.
What sucks even more is that its on an early-in-the-week weekday. Waiting until Friday to play all night long is going to be torture with school and whatnot.

Uh it's school. Just play it whenever you can. I didn't go to any of my classes when Gears came out. Also showed up late to school back in high school when H2 launched.

Uhh play when you get home? I don't see why people have to take off from work and skip school just to play for one day...

It's a good game. Not a game that if you don't play that you'll die.

The 3 days of XBL Gold for free is intruiging. And although this game wasn't looking like a buy for me, coupons reducing it's price by a third really makes me rethink buying it or not.

All Midnight events should always have lots of free stuff or should never happen.

=/

You didn't like H1 and H2, but still want this? I don't want to hear any bitching from you I swear...
