Halo 3 - General Discussion & Info

I just went and changed my pre-order to a regular edition, so if anyone in the area wants a Legendary theres one going spare at the Gamestop. Looking forward to picking it up tomorrow night/morning.

God damn, went to my local video game store that my friend's cousin owns. It was me that friend and another, we go up and start talking about halo 3, and their like "Here we'll let you guys play some", so they put it into their demo station. Aynways I got to play campaign and look at the mp maps. Then I was like "You know what would be sweet, if you guys let us take this home". Unfortunately they politefully declined. So then we look around the store some then my friend's cousin pulls him over and I find out later he will give him a copy later if he wants to go get it. So hopefully my friend goes out and gets it, unfortunately he doesn't really care and said he might not get it.

Sorry if that is hard to read.

Am I a bad person if I told three kids at EB getting conned into preordering it that they could go to 7-11 and get it right now? The dude at EB looked pissed. :)

Kotaku's review said:
The game's controls are mostly unchanged, you do get the addition of the item button, which allows you to deploy and make use of a variety of equipment. While that doesn't change the way you control the game, it does effect the way you develop your strategy for going through a level.

For instance, I discovered that you can use the grav lift in ways perhaps not initially intended. I accidentally dropped one in a doorway and effectively blocked people from making their way through the door. Another time I used it in a low-ceiling room. Once I hopped on the lift, the device pinned me to the ceiling, allowing me to surprise enemies when they walked through the door.

See, that just sounds fun.

Does 7-11 card people? :booty:

If 7-11 doesn't care enough to maintain the street date, something tells me carding for an M rated game isn't high on their priority list. ;)

I was looking at the Bungie site yesterday and at about 2pm there were 2k people playing H3. I wish I was among them. I bet there are ever more today.

I can wait 2 more days... there is no online till then anyway. I need to replay one and 2 to get a grasp of the story... I've never beat them. Anyone know where I can grab them on the cheap?

I'm thinking about stopping by a midnight launch if my mom is up for it lol...

Matchmaking was up temporarily on Friday, but now it's down. It was supposed to go back up yesterday, I don't know what the hold up is.

:applause: I hate EB/GS employees, especially when they try to push stuff on me that I don't want. Most of them are assholes anyways (they think they're better than you because they work in a videogame store).

I say "kids", but maybe that's just because I'm older than they were - they looked around 18-19. One was buying Two Worlds, to which the clerk rolled his eyes. When he asked them if they wanted to preorder Halo 3, they said no because they were going to Wal-Mart (guaranteed instore, with dedicated Halo checkouts). The clerk started debating them on whether or not Wal-Mart would actually have the game or not and tried convincing him that unless they got there AT midnight, it'd sell out. I overheard, and plainly butted in with, "you know, you can go to 7-11 down the street and pick it up right now, no waiting." Dude was pissed, but so be it. Don't be a prick to your customers.
9.5 from IGN is not too shabby...
not at all - but does anyone find it weird it didn't score a perfect 10 from them?

games that focused on single player alone like metroid prime 3 (9.5) and bioshock (9.7) did that good and better apparently, so do you guys think its just a matter of the same game over again?

Yeah, they always say that a game will sell out unless you preorder. For example, I was at a local GS a few weeks before Madden 08 was coming out and the employee was like "You have to preorder this if you want to play it because everyone will sellout".

Kinda sad because they often con unknowing people into buying from them (typically parents that aren't videogame savy)

I don't know about IGN, but Gamespot's knocks against the game are fucking garbage.

 • Inevitable flood of prepubescent online players sure to hamper your enjoyment of the online modes.
They have a few complaints, but this one bothers the fuck outta me. You can't dock points from a game because people are dicks.
I have the LE pre-ordered for $55 and I'm debating if I should get the Legendary edition instead.

Which one do you guys think I should get?
I would just get the regular unless you like to collect things and are a big halo fan I would go with the Lengendary.

Not really. Unfortunately games like Halo, Zelda, and MGS are rated with much higher standards than other games due their history of excellence.

For example, I could see a game like Call of Duty 4 or Assassin's Creed easily getting a 9.5, but games like Halo 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and MGS4 have to work much harder for that 9.5 because even if they are technically superior to their predecessors, they have a lot more going against them since they have to "wow" the reviewers on a much grander scale than the previous games.

If Halo 3 was the first in the series and there was no Halo 1 or 2, I could see it pulling off BioShock scores. A game like Zelda: Twilight Princess scored weaker than Ocarina of Time because it had the same impossible expecatations going against it just like Halo 3 even though it was technically the better game.

Then again I could be talking with my head up my ass since I never played Halo 3 but I still stand by my opinion that the bigger name games have to work much harder for their scores.

GAH. Why does everyone assume that that portion of the review explains why points are taken from the game? Well, It's not. They're trying to make it easier so you can get a better view on the game in the same amount of time it would take you to view the points. It used to be a score and a diagram next to it that showed graphics, gameplay, etc ( which each had indivual point values ) but they've figured that that really tells you nothing about the game. They work on a .5 intreval scale, a 10 would mean that halo 3 is perfect and it's not.

This game isn't a perfect 10, but its pretty damn close. Would have liked to see it get a 10, but I don't really care.

for those of us who have not played through the halo 1 and 2 campaign is there a story overview I can read (or preferably watch in video). I can never bring myself to play the first 2, so I just don't want to be confused with part 3.
Sucks, I probably wont get mine till next weekend, damn me needing to use the free amazon shipping.
Just go buy it at a retail store, save your receipt and take your amazon copy back.
fuck reviews. The game is whatever you think it should be, not somefat ass PS3 fanboy writer from IGN!
But how would I know before playing it?

I thought it got a 9.5/10 from IGN.

Yes, but Memphis believes that this game deserves a "Its like coming every second I play/10" score.

Its a great game, but I doubt we will ever see a game that good.

The problem is that nobody wants to pay money to figure out if they like a game or not, and for big name releases like this MS doesn't release a demo. I don't count the beta as a demo, because most of the public couldn't get a hold of it ( only avaliable via Crackdown ).

They need to release demos for ALL games. I'm sure 10-15 minutes of an ( at least ) 6 hour game isn't going to hurt anyone.
