Halo 3 - General Discussion & Info

i found the fiesta playlist to be rather shallow and pedantic.

Heard that the dude who runs Bungie's H3 playlists said there will be an upcoming Team Snipers double EXP weekend. But I don't know if he said which weekend.

I suck at snipers but maybe that will be a chance to improve.

Team SWAT question. Do you use the scope much?

I find the scope is needed if you are shooting at someone from far away (across the map on Snowbound for example) but OTOH I find that often when I see an opp at a medium distance and go to scope I'm often dead from his first shot which he gets off quicker as I assume he didn't bother with the scope.

Also is there anything worse than getting the jump on a guy but not managing to nail the head shot within 2 or 3 tries giving him enough time to swing around and take you down? (But it feels so good when you're the pwner instead of the pwnee. :D )

I agree that the scope is too slow for anything but cross-map unexpected headshots.

A lot of good players don't even need the scope for the sniper rifle.

I only scope when they're a long distance away usually. At close range, just about any time I scope it's completely accidental. Medium Range I usually don't use scope as the battle rifle is pretty accurate by itself without the need to scope.

Pretty much the same way with sniper, except I'm not good enough to not scope on medium range targets. Things like bubble shields though, I'll charge in against a shotgun user and usually get a headshot off unless my timing is bad.

Details on the OTT vs. CAG match are here:

I'm thinking Tuesdays at 9PM EST might make a good time for a CAG Halo 3 night going forward.

Wubb, im totally down to play in this match if you need another cag. Hit me with a FR.

jakehoss - Hit up Inufaye or post on that thread that you'd like to be on the 'rest of CAG' team. Is your XBL id jakehoss? Nevermind I see you already did that. :D
Got my LVL45 (Brigadier) in Lone Wolves the other night. Bout time.
Noice.

I go from wanting to get to LVL35 to thinking maybe it's better I stay below so I don't get crushed any more than I do already.

Currently I'm staying away from the Lone Wolves list so I don't go up.

Team Snipers Double EXP Weekend Begins Today!

Posted by Shishka at 5/8/2008 11:00 AM PDT
Break out yer long rifles, Wild Bills and Annie Oakleys, we're about to have ourselves an old fasioned shootout.

As of right this moment, this weekend's double exp playlist is now operational. The theme? Team Snipers. Range and reactions are the name of the game as the popular gametypes make their way from Team Slayer, and bring along a couple new friends for the ride.

Team Snipers Weekend lasts from Thursday the 8th, until early morning on the following Monday. That's quite a lot of time to try to change the slang for Elites from "dinos" to "wamprats." The Team Snipers weekend will require Heroic and Legendary map packs for participation. Cheers!

I caved and downloaded the Legendary pack.

I really like these maps a lot. Ghost Town is awesome. That is the one I have played the most of the new maps. Blackout is cool too. I really hop Bungie does a few more remakes of classic maps before it is all said and done. I only played Avalanche once, but I liked it. I like this map pack better than Heroic (with Foundry being the only one I like as much as the Legendary pack).
Any Avalanche in the snipers playlist? I would love to come across that.
I haven't come across it yet. Been playing an assload of Ghost Town today.

The OTT vs. CAG Halo 3 match is tonight at 9PM EST.

[thread]182062[/thread]

I have a feeling it's going to turn into just a general CAG Halo 3 night and I'm hoping we have at least 8 show so we can do some customs. Anyway please post on the thread and send me a FR if you are interested.

I'm probably going to start up a custom game at some point so people can join as they get online and then after enough are on we can start the match.

Grifball went live as this weekend's double EXP extraveganza. This time we're using the Spring League map variant and ruleset, which make it harder for jerks to escape the map, and some tweaks to game properties. hammers and hilarity await!

Grifball is available from 11am PDT today until 2am PDT Monday morning. For more information on Grifball, check out http://www.grifball.com

Hooray!

There were a ton more people than normal on my FL playing Halo 3 yesterday evening. I wonder if it was grifball interest? Maybe they should make that a perm hopper.

Ranked Grifball would be hilarious.

Had a 3 on 3 game yesterday after you left. Basically it was three split screen teams (My cousin & I || Guy 2 & Buddy || Guy 3 & Buddy) and the Guy 2 was on the other team while we were stuck with his team killing buddy, heh. Still managed to score 2 of the five points though and were so close to 3.

having a coordinated grifball team is superb.

the best part is even n00bish players seem to do well with the use of the hammer (some of my friends who i can cream in a deathmatch seem to rack up 30 kills a game in grifball).

basically it seems to me all you need do is get the ball and follow at least two guys towards the goal. even if they both die, you will probably still score.

Well, when I was playing in the Grifball league on the CAG team, things aren't so easy. There are so many people who don't know how to play properly in the Grifball hopper.

Even the team with the most kills doesn't always win.

Play some rounds with Draekon and you'll see you can become skilled in the game.

In the 11 matches I played with him, his cousin, and another CAG we went 11-0. I'd say at least 6 of those we went up 3-zip and then just had garbage time.

Double XP starts now:
Living Dead Double EXP Weekend Returns Once Again!

Posted by Shishka at 5/22/2008 11:00 AM PDT

Starting this very moment (That's 11am PDT for you time travelers out there), Living Dead is back as the weekend Double EXP playlist. This time, some small tweaks have been made to the existing gametypes. Furthermore, an unprecedented two (count 'em!) gametypes have been added to the roster, and the Legendary Map Pack makes its presence known in some pretty peculiar ways. Eat up, kids; a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Living Dead weekend will last until Monday the 26th at 2am PDT. Legendary and Heroic map packs are required.
I hope they will use filters....
My bet is that's what they mean by the Legendary pack will be used in peculiar ways.

Eh that's probably subjective. I played a few and needed a break.

Braaains = weak ass zombies. PITA to start as a zombie
CreepingX = cloaked zombies

There were others that either got vetoed or I forgot.

I have a tunnel map and CTF game mode that seems like it would be cool to try as 2v2. Anybody up to hop on and try it out with me either tonight or tomorrow night at 9PM EST? (I could go earlier but I have a feeling later works better for most CAGs.)

LP, ColHot, Syn and myself did manage to link up and check out the map yesterday.

Tunnel CTF on Tunnel 2.0 in case anyone is wondering - you should be able to find that on bungie.net and if anyone really wants to check it out I can probably dig up a direct link.

Anyway it worked pretty well as a 2v2 CTF mode. I think it would work fine probably up to 4v4. But it is a tight map so if you pile too many in there it would just get silly.

Yeah that map was fun.

I tried Lone Wolf again last night...damn I was on a roll, moved up to 35 then switched over to Team Doubles with my little sis...should have kept going on LW though, we lost plenty of matches in TD.

More Legendary Brawling!

Posted by Shishka at 5/29/2008 11:00 AM PDT

"So many targets, so little time.

Starting right now (11am PDT), Legendary Brawl returns one more time to claim the throne that is "Double EXP Weekend." For the uninitiated, Legendary Brawl is ranked 12-man FFA. This means that not only will you be climbing the EXP ladder at a quicker pace, you'll have the opportunity to get that Mongoose Mowdown you've been working on for fourty levels now.

Legendary Brawl runs from 11am PDT Thursday, May 29th until 2:00am Monday, June 2nd. As the name would imply, Legendary DLC is required."
