So the game quits on you when you're close to winning?

For the people who know what I'm referencing (check the ODST thread), I still have nightmares.

Is there any way to download this in the background? I hate how you can't "Continue" and play some actual games. I'm getting it from the ODST disc. You have to leave the damn download screen up, and it's going to take forever to finish. :bomb:

I'm still really shitty with the DMR, but I'm godly with the pistol. I pray the beta gets extended at least a few more days, since my last final is on the 19th.

is any1 else somewhat let down by this? i mean yay its new and all but the only game mode i really enjoy is invasion and 1 flag(but ive always loved objective/flag games). i really dont like the reticule expanding part either. Is there a mode where there arent armor abilities besides run and evade? is that classic or SvE slayer?

Cancel the download, go to the dashboard, then go to your download history under account management, and resume it there to download in the background.

What does everyone think of the "quitting" bans? I honestly didn't know about it until today. 15 minutes isn't long, but the principle of things. Today one of the silver gamertags in my household was banned, it had quit out a total of 3 times(twice yesterday and once today) and only played around 25 total. Then after no warnings I am aware of, today it was banned for the 15 minutes.

I think that it needs some work. I don't think it's a bad thing. I just think that when you played 25 or so games and you are kicked or quit out of three that's not reasonable.

I didn't know that there were any bans... I've gotten kicked out of matches because of storms knocking out my power and internet over the past week several times mid-match and I never gotten banned. Is it only when you go to leave game?

Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

That is 10%+ quitting games. Seems reasonable to me suspensions is what they are going to do. I personally think they need to add an incentive for staying rather than a penalty for quitting. Penalties have been shown to not work well (think speeding tickets, prohibition of alcohol, etc.).

After many matches of 1 Flag on Sword Base, they really need to lower power of the air ramp. Being able to toss the flag up to the score point within 30 seconds of the match is kind of silly. Not to mention it renders the rest of the map utterly useless. Grenade spamming the back of the defenders Flag spot is tiresome as well. They need to spread out the initial spawn points for the teams.

That's a decent idea. Give the gamers that stick around to finish the map more EXP. Maybe have a pool of 500 EXP that is divided among the remaining players of the team that had the quitter.

I think I quit about 3 matches out of 125. When you get into certain objective based gametypes and people aren't playing the mode as intended, why bother? I had a guy sniping during an entire Oddball match the other day. WTF? Quit.

Same goes for other objective modes where people just want to get in and play Slayer. fuck that, go play Slayer if you don't want to play the matches as intended.

I agree with you on Reward over Punishment. I guess your right about the banning, I didn't think of it as more than 10% at the time. I guess everyone will just have to be more careful when they know that they are going to have to leave soon, to plan the timing.

That is one of the most frustrating things, to get in a objective type match and everyone care more about killing eachother than capturing the flag, getting the ball, ect.ect..

They already do give you exp for finishing the game. More for exp for winning, imo

Did they ever announce a time on the 19th at which the beta will end? I got the thing early, and I still haven't even reached 100 games. And it's not like I haven't had time to play it... I really want to get in as much time as possible before it ends, since I really enjoy it (despite me sucking).

I'm also still trying to figure it out. As of now I am assuming it will end 11:59pm on the 19th. but time zone? I could assume EST

I'm hoping it's late Wednesday. Can't play it until my internet goes up and I would like one last run before it goes down.

It would be midnight pacific (3 am east, 2 am central, 1 am mountain) as Bungie is in Seattle.

Did I miss something, or do they make no attempt to explain how to play Generator Defense in-game? I didn't know if I could shoot the generators anywhere, or if it had to be in the red part to do damage. And once a generator is locked, do you just have to wait for it to unlock? Or is there something you can do?
4 hours left for me(CST) I think I will leave my xbox on and see what happens
You posted that around 2 A.M. Pacific time. If you're on Central time, you would have had 10 horus from that post; 4 hours and 40 minutes from now.

I finally got to play Generator Defense. It's really god. My friend and I won a ton of games in a row.

No, they don't explain it well in game, but you can shoot the generators anywhere, and yes, you do have to wait for them to unlock before you can damage them again.

yeah I fucked up, I thought 8 am instead of 12 pm. Silly me. Generator defence is a lot of fun.

Well I enjoyed the Beta much more thoroughly than the Halo 3 Beta and Halo 3 multiplayer over all. I have to say last night I lost way more than I won, but it was still had some fun games and ended the beta well.
Still on... eyes feel like they're gonna bleed.
How long are you going to continue to try to stay on?

I don't know. I'm playing maybe 1 game an hour. I'm only still up to try to get my sleep schedule back on track to where I sleep at night.

That was a bad decision, unless you want to play ODST, which is pretty good. No one could get in the beta after 1 P.M. Eastern unless they were already logged into the servers.
NOOOOOOO!!!

I just went out to buy ODST to get a taste of the beta.
ODST is a worthwhile purchase regardless.

Christ that was a short beta. Was the Halo 3 multiplayer beta that short? Can't remember.

Roughly the same length.

Lots of changes made to Reach according to the Bungie podcast. Most sound like they're for the better. Some are just bug fixes.

- DMR now has 15 shots to a clip.
- Needle Rifle now has 21 shots to a clip.
- Grenades are toned down. They now do 1 point less damage to your health beyond your shields which means your health will now regenerate back to full health. They also take a bit longer to detonate and the radius is a bit smaller.
- Meleeing someone in Armor Lock no longer drops your shields.
- Active Camo doesn't jam your whole team's radar. (Might have been a bug, I don't remember that one.)
- Spartans move slightly faster and jump slightly higher.
- CTF spawn/cap is different on Swordbase and Powerhouse.
- Stockpile score areas are different on both Swordbase and Powerhouse.
- Plasma Launcher damage is toned down. Tracking reduced. Lock on time is increased. Still an anti-infantry weapon but is now more anti-vehicle. As of right now it doesn't spawn on any maps.
- Magnum shoots slightly slower, clip size is staying the same.
- Assault Rifle damage slightly higher.
- Elite shields now take 4 seconds to recharge as opposed to 3 seconds previously.
- Vehicles are "meatier" than before. More like Halo 3 vehicles.
- Shields reflect damage much more accurately.
- Headshot bug fixed.
- Melee slowed down. Compared to Halo 3's. (GODDAMN IT)
- Reticule fixed and easier to see.
- Easier to tell where you're being shot from.
- Sniper Rifle more "idiot proof." (?)

Also, much more armor customization:
