Halo: Reach

I'm a whore too. Cancelled my preorder for regular Halo Reach and opted for the console bundle. I could've passed if it was just a silver 360 S and the Reach controllers but the fact that it has Reach stuff on it pushed me over the edge. No video game buying for me for just about the rest of the year. I'll recoup some of the cost after the fact by selling my old 360.
Forge 2.0 and Firefight Versus detailed in a massive weekly update:

There's a bunch of interesting information in there, but I think the best thing I read was that the forge (re)made maps are going to be in matchmaking. They also go on to say that they will have an easier time getting fan made maps into the matchmaking rotation.

I really hope fans remake all the classic maps and they make a playlist dedicated to them.

Bungie.net is still miles ahead of any other game web integration I've seen and if they really start integrating fan content, then I'm incredibly excited or more so at least.

Agreed. Both Bnets (Bungie and Battle.net) are at the top I think.

Can someone tell me what the clan tag is like in the Reach? If i remember right Halo 3 is 1 letter followed by 2 numbers. So example F23. Is it the same?

It's up to any 4 letters and numbers you like: 4444,44aa,aaaa

I got on 3 the other day and I have to say the multiplayer sucked. I don't know why because I really liked it when 3 first came out. I never even say any gain in xp and it says I have 56 more xp to get to the next level. However after all the games I played I never got to that level. I think I have the Reach beta to blame for this and now Halo 3's multiplayer just feels lacking. I would rather be playing the one for Reach. I know it sounds dumb but I just can not get into the multiplayer on Halo 3 like I did in the past.

You get 1xp for each match WON. Ergo, you need to win 56 games to advance to the next level. If you play a team game you have to get 1st place or tie. If you are doing Lone Wolves you have to be in the top 3 at the end of the match to gain 1xp.

If you want to level up faster you can play the Double XP matches each weekend where you get, ahem, 2xp for each match won.

You lose, you get squat.

I loved Halo 3's multiplayer for a fairly long while after it came out. Mostly because I'm such a fan of the core gameplay, but I do agree about the leveling system. Despite being a longtime fanboy of the series I've never considered myself amazing at the game, so I permanently stalled out with the leveling once I got into the high 30's. Didn't bother me too much. I've never cared a whole lot about my rank.

Over time I did get bored, though. The lack of weapon variety is what killed it for me. Using a Battle Rifle every single match, and getting killed by a Battle Rifle 95 percent of the time became extremely dull. I love Bungie for taking it out for Reach. I got kills with so many different weapons in the beta. It really helped prevent every game from blurring together into one big BR-fest, which is all Halo 3 feels like to me at this point.

My difficulty with going back to Halo 3's online is that it is simply too difficult. These people have been playing non stop for years, and I am no longer the level 50 player I once was.

Does anyone think the Legendary edition of this is REALLY going to be as limited as Bungie hinted in the reveal video that was out on the Marketplace this week? I remember fondly getting Halo 3 Legendary for $60 from Walmart.com in Dec. 07 3 months after it came out.

We'll see if it's as limited as say the Prestige Edition of MW 2 was, that seemed to be what Bungie was hinting at.

I am confident it will be. I don't think Bungie would jerk around it's valued customers like that. They are pretty straight forward people, and I am confident that if you don't pre-order, you may not be able to get one. Or you'll at least have an extremely hard time tracking one down for MSRP!

Well they never said the one for 3 was going to be limited as far as I know. Also all they said about this one is that it will be more limited than the one for 3. So hell say they made 1 million for 3 then made only 500 thousand for Reach. Even though you still have a shit load of them out there the 500 thousand is still more limited than the 1 million for 3. Hell they could have made one less for Reach than they did for 3 and it would still be more limited. No matter what I have mine preordered with amazon. I just hope it dosn't come broken.

Bungie and MS will be pumping out as many copies as they can sell, and they'll hang around with retailers for much longer than they wanted in much larger boxes than standard 360 games take up, so they'll discount them to clear up space for other product.

If you're thinking that this will be Demon's Souls LE limited quantities, I think you'll not thinking it through correctly. It'll be Halo 3 Legendary Edition levels, so I doubt anyone that doesn't pre-order it will have any issues with getting a copy.

The only thing i want from the limited/legendary editions are the multiplayer skins. I HATE Disc Locked Content in my games. Luckily I have a good feeling this will tank in value just as Halo3's legendary did and I'll be able to get the DLC codes easily.

We'll see about that. I think you're dead wrong, tough. I don't think it will be DS limited, but if Bungie said it will be pretty limited and that you'll have a hard time finding it a couple weeks after retail, I believe. What else have they lead their fan-base astray on? Bungie has been good to it's customers for as long as they've been making games, and I'm not inclined to believe that they'd suddenly throw out their flawless record just to sell a few more games.

And if you're about to say that the last point is mute because it's the legendary edition, and it sells for more and Bungie will make more off of it, think about this. Are the people at Bungie stupid? They've probably known that people would be skeptical of the legendary edition since they conceived it. They saw what happened with Halo 3, and if they knew that, why, knowing that they would be clearanced for less than 50% of the retail value a few months after release, would they produce countless copies? They don;t make nearly anything on those clearance copies, so if money is all you think they're concerned with, this would be idiotic.

The point is, I believe that these will be limited. Maybe not as limited as some games' collector's editions, but they will be limited. If Bungie says so, it's going to be that way. If you guys want to take your chances, go for it.

The only reason I can see this being much more limited than the Halo 3 LE is due to the fact that MacFarlane is making the casts for the figures. Other than that, I see no reason why they wouldn't mass produce the fuck out of these things.

I'm just grabbing the console bundle, but even then, the more I mull it over, I'm tempted to just pick up the normal 250gig console, and a normal copy of Reach. I've been burned too much recently on LE/CE/UE products.

fuck, just thinking about God of War and the UE makes me pissed.

One thing I'm upset about though is that Halo Reach preorders in any form get the $20 dollar games credit, yet the console bundle does not on Amazon. I think I'll write them an email and see what they have to say...just seems...bleh.

I'd totally go for it. The worst that they can do is say no. And then you could go with the other option. I really want one of those controllers, though. The system is all around badass, but I guess I'd be fine with just a controller. If I can raise some money, though, I may upgrade.

Also, on the upgrading thing, how does it work with transferring your licenses? I've already done it once with a 250GB hard drive upgrade this year, so will they let me do it again? I'm mostly worried about that.

From what I've always understood, your licenses transfer with your Xbox Live account. Your xbox Live account can only be active and used for online play on one console at a time.

When I sold my xbox, I just reformatted it, and sent it on it's way. When I bought the MW2 bundle, I simply updated my profile like usual, and was up and running when it was finished.

You get one license transfer per year on console purchase/upgrades. States as such in the FAQ for the license transfer, so you won't be able to do it again until the year's timeframe has passed.

The only way that gets around that is if your existing console gets sent to Microsoft for repair and it is replaced in the repair process. In the console serial number exchange, they're supposed to take care of that for you, and it doesn't count towards the 1 transfer per year limit.

Except when my COD MW2 console crapped out two weeks after purchase and they didn't transfer the licenses when they swapped it out in the repair process. Took 2 weeks to get it all sorted out.

So you couldn't just call them and say that you just upgraded to the new slim, and have them transfer your licenses? Would you need to give them a receipt number, or something? I really want to upgrade, but if my licenses won't transfer, I'm not gonna do it.

I have a co-worker who pleaded in just about every which way for a second license transfer 11 months after his first, but Microsoft wouldn't budge. Might be out of luck :whistle2:(.

I just saw all of the avatar award helmets on Joystiq. Somehow missed that previously. Not a big deal I guess, but I'm stoked.

That really blows!!! I want that console so bad, but if I can't have any DLC or arcade games on it for another 6 months or so after I get it, I'm gonna have to pass. Hopefully it gets clearanced somewhere to like $250. If it EVER hits that mark, I'll buy it no questions, and just hold onto it!!!

To get my issue resolved, which was a legitimate mistake on their part, I had to have the issue escalated to their Level 3 support, and even that took almost a week and a half to get fixed.

You only need the license transfer when you're not going to be connected to XBL.

The DRM uses two factors, the console ID of your console and your XBL account. If you have the DRM match the console ID, you can play it without being on XBL. If you don't have the console ID match the DRM for the content, you need to be connected to XBL to have it work without any issue.

Oh, and in case anyone wants the legendary edition, but isn;t sure where to get it at, here's my take on it.
I've got mine instore with Gamestop, because when I weighed all of the options, I think GS has everyone beat. I look at it this way:

*Note: All of these locations receive the recon armor

*Note: I am using the cheapest shipping option, but there are others available

*Note: I am including things like preorder bonuses and midnight releases because those may add potential value to purchase

*Note: I have taken the amount of any credits or coupons out of the base price to show the value of said coupons and/or credits

Amazon:
-Free shipping, but takes awhile to get there
-$20 VG credit
Total: $130

Walmart:
-97 cent shipping, but takes awhile to get there
-$20 eGift card
-Instore pickup
Total: $130.97+tax or $130 +tax

BestBuy:
-$2.99 shipping, but takes awhile to get there
-500 Bonus Points ($10 I believe)
-Instore pickup
-Possible Midnight release with swag, giveaways, etc.
Total: $142.99+tax or $140+tax

GS.com:
-$4.99 shipping with coupon code SAVER. but takes awhile to get there
-$20 coupon on next game purchase
-Exclusive Mark IV armor
Total: $134.99+tax

Gamestop B&M:
-Instore pickup
-Exclusive Mark IV armor
-Midnight release with swag, giveaways, etc.
Total: $149.99+tax

When I look at this, I value the GS B&M much more than anything else. The initial price isn't as attractive as some of the others, but I value exclusive preorder bonuses, swag, giveaways, and release day pickup more than the other offers out there. I'm not saying that this is the best choice for everyone, just that it's what I value most. If you don;t care when the game gets to your hands, I'd go with amazon, but for anyone who wants to play on day one. GameStop B&M is the way to go!!!
Scroll to the bottom with the picture.

Bungie writes that the Legendary Edition will be available in limited quantities and that if you want one, you should seriously consider a pre-order.

The Reach Legendary edition is even bigger than the H3 one from pictures I've seen. It's going to be available for $50 in 6 months or less. You gotta remember this is Halo, not something like Demon's Souls. This is a game with a huge fanbase. They're going to make Legendary Editions for far longer than they actually need to, let alone have it be actually limited.

All I know is I can't fucking wait to get mine. The picture on Bungie.net of Carney standing next to two of them stacked on top of each other is hilarious. The packaging is gargantuan.

fuck it. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong. Either way, I'm going with your mindset on this one. I'm not even going to pay attention to price after I get mine.

Oh, BTW, those pictures are of boxes that are larger than actual size. It says so in the article.

Same here.

Now that you mentioned that, it does look smaller in the unboxing video than the Carney photo. Still big, though.

So your paying 150$ because you want the flaming armor? How do you justify that to yourself? It's no longer exclusive either, if everyone has it.

Im confused how is it no longer exclusive?
Also Im not really paying for it my uncle offered to pay half if I wanted it so im only paying about £50.00

Nope. Just the legendary. They both come with the Elite armor, though!!
