I did the rounds in my very small town this morning as well. I don't have many options, but then again there are less gamers here so it works out.
K-mart - Nothing.
EB- Four of us lined up. When the employee opened the doors he was shocked we were there, since they don't get their shipments until the afternoon (like we knew).
FYE - I recently asked a younger guy there, and he replied "Sometime in March", but I wanted to make sure. I spotted the manager opening the gates, so I thought it'd be better to ask her. It seems like sometime in March is fairly likely. She said they hadn't received any since launch, and they still have ALOT of preorders to fill yet. I remember them putting up generic preorder signs for Wii the day after the name was announced, and was shocked by it. I knew it'd come back to bite them. She said she doesn't expect any on their shelves for two months at least...
Gamestop - This was the most infuriating visit of all. I actually hate asking about the Wii, because I know employees are bombarded by the question over and over. I'm fine with them telling me "I don't know when the next shipment is coming". I believe them when they tell me that. What this woman told me flat out ticked me off. Here's our conversation:
Me: "Did you get any Wii's in today?"
Her: (Snotty attitude) "No..."
- I was ready to leave it at that, and walk away -
Her: (Extremely snotty) "You're not going to get one until March..."
- Notice she didn't say "We're not getting any until March", she said me personally. I thought that was very strange. -
Me: "Why do you say that--why March?"
- Blank stare -
Me: "Do you have preorders to fill yet? Have you started a new waiting list?"
Her: "No just walk ins..."
Me: (Through a sarcastic smile) "Like me..."
- Blank stare -
So I just walk away angrily and for whatever reason I lose it for a second and as I walk I loudly yell "Why the hell did you just make that up!". I turn around and see a few guys smiling back at me, but she didn't seem to hear. I'd be FINE if she said they got word they aren't getting any shipments until March, but that wasn't the case. She was basically saying "Stop coming here, until they are plentiful.", and I bet she gives that response to everyone looking for a Wii. Which is stupid, they bring business to the store nearly everyday. Sure nine times out of ten they aren't going to buy anything besides a Wii, but gamers do make impulse buys from time to time. Anyone else getting this stupid March reply, or was it just this disgruntled lady?
