Hey 4 bucks is 4 bucks. I'm in.

Have you had anything ship from them yet, I'm still wondering how quick they are at shipping and how reliable.

EDIT: Code won't work for me, what do I have to do to get it to work?

EDIT2: Looks like you have to an account for it to work. Works fine.

which one are you guys ordering? they already said that the extras would be the same as the dvd versions?

i already have 1-3 and the anime on dvd...

My Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas should be showing up sometime in the next few days and I have bunch of preorders that are spread over the next 2 months.

They have a whole thread over at highdefdigest where the owner personally answers questions. http://forums.highdefdigest.com/showthread.php?t=810

They ship preorders on the Saturday before they come out.

If I order one, I'm just going to get the trilogy pack.

I'm not the biggest fan of flippers especially when there isn't anything of real importance on the other side.

I'm getting the Ultimate collection just because I love anything Matrix. My favorite movies of all time! Now what should I do with my old DVD Set :whistle2:k?
wait.. so all the discs are combo discs?

wtf wb
Yes, all the discs in the Ultimate Matrix Collection are combo discs (one side movie, other side extras) while the Complete Matrix Trilogy are only single sided HD-DVDs
Yes, all the discs in the Ultimate Matrix Collection are combo discs (one side movie, other side extras) while the Complete Matrix Trilogy are only single sided HD-DVDs
Aw fuck, now I think I want the trilogy instead.

EDIT: Format: Widescreen (2.40:1) (Enhanced for 16x9)
Thanks, I still need to think about this, I could care less about the extras but I want Animatrix in HD and I also would prefer the DVD art...
The Digital Bits is reporting that The Animatrix won't be in HD. :/
The Digital Bits is reporting that The Animatrix won't be in HD. :/
Likely not. I am betting a lot of the Animatrix shorts were never intended for HD when mastered. So if the Animatrix was in HD, people would cry out about how horrible some of them look.
The Digital Bits is reporting that The Animatrix won't be in HD. :/
Thanks Sporadic, you just finalilzed my decision. I'll get the regular Trilogy.
1.78:1 mean NO black bars.

Thus, you will have black bars with the Matrix, but that is what is intended. Although, I don't want to argue aspect ratios again ;)
Thanks for the clear up doubledown. I still wish that everyone would fucking film in 1.78:1 already so that we can make full use of our widescreens.

So, I don't mean to change the topic... feel free to post around this one. I was curious if folks have found Casino Royale anywhere for less than $25? I'd like to pick it up, but I'm on a budget... so being a cheap ass video guy is important. :(

That said, I downloaded the movie trailer to my PS3 from the PS3 store... and OMG. It looks INCREDIBLE! Talk about a positive review of why I like the system!!! ;)

I just realized that site accepts Paypal. I still haven't qualified for the $20 rebate to this date. I used paypal but I'm wondering if its pre purchase for May if I'll be eligible for the rebate with this pre order or not? $47.99 would be pretty sweet deal for the Matrix Trilogy.

Does anyone know of a "cheaper" place to pick up some import HD-DVDs? I'm specifically looking for the Machinist, Pefume: Story of a Murder, Equilibrium, Renaissance, and Harry Potter and the GOF. I can't seem to find them for much cheaper $50 with shipping. Any suggestions?

hey seem to have Renaissance and Harry Potter for well under $50, but the other ones you mentioned are still kinda pricey. I would like to add that their Customer service is exceptionl. Shipping was very fast and the return process was painless.

Unfortunately, Japanese HD DVD's are damn expensive (Equilibrium). Not sure why that is, especially when HD DVD practically doesn't exist there, as Sony is the primary religion in the country.
What's a big shame, espeically for audiohiles with tighter wallets, is the fact that what's probably two most prominant or at least biggest selling (360 add-on and A2) HD-DVD players on the market currently can't take advantage of it if unless you have one heck of an expensive (and fairly new) receiver becuase now you have to use HDMI for TRueHD with the A2.
I don't know that I'd call $300
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-SA-XR57K-Digital-Theater-Receiver/dp/B000FZ1X1K/ref=sr_1_3/104-0159525-9494359?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1175255845&sr=1-3
"A heck of an expensive receiver". If you don't like panasonic (the XR57 is VERY well respected in the audiophile community as an excellent budget HDMI receiver), you can get an Onkyo for $370:
http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR604-7-1-Channel-Receiver/dp/B000HD7FGM/ref=sr_1_1/104-0159525-9494359?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1175255766&sr=1-1
If you want denon, it'll cost you at least $700:
http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-887-7-1-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B000HD0CB2/ref=sr_1_1/104-0159525-9494359?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1175255877&sr=1-1
which is getting a little spendier, but still isn't TOO bad. But then again everybody has their own idea of what expensive is. For me personally, a receiver is expensive when it breaks the $1k mark. For some people that may be 5 or 600. But if $300 is expensive to somebody, sound really isn't that important to them.

Arrgh, after eleven edits I gave up on hotlinking. It kept deleting the first half of my post and throwing a picture in the middle.

well I HAD to cancel my orders at Amazon
Ordered:
The Compete Matrix 57.XX
Planet Earth BBC: 57.XX
Lethal Weapon 1: 14.XX
Lethal Weapon 2: 14.XX
Willy Wonka: 14.XX
Happy Feet: 21.XX

and free shipping to boot

It seems the free shipping only works if you spend like $60.

Could someone put together a quick post with the stores that sell the new formats outside of the obvious ones such as BB and Amazon? I keep remembering deals that were posted from weeks back, but I can never recall the stores such as bestprices.com and others. It'd be nice if we could have them all in one post and perhaps added to the OP so users looking for a deal can just click the links and look up titles themselves.

That panasonic maybe good for audio, put that's a terrible choice as something to use as your A/V backbone. It's video features leave a lot to be desired compared to the Onkyo for only $70 more. I had no idea the 604 was that inexpensive, keep in mind that it was a $600 receiver at one point and $500 not too long ago. And that $600+ dollar mark is pretty exepensive to most people I think, like you said the idea of expensive varies. Now keep in mind, it doesn't really affect me as much I can get that Denon for about half price through a dealer accomdation (which I'll do shortly after I get the A2 next week, but I want more for the video features than the audio, but being a Denon the audio should be quite smooth too).

But I think you missed the overall point, because the 5.1 analog was removed from the A2 you have to have an HDMI reciever now and one that processes the audio. With the A1, because it decodes TrueHD and uses 5.1 analog I simply hooked it up to my 5 year old Pioneer (which I got for about $300 back then), and viola TrueHD 5.1 was available to me. Now as I also mentioned my ears suck and I can't get the fine details. Still my overall point is that it was a shame they took out that feature, as it was very convienvent, and could save a number of folks from going out and forking over more cash for a new receiver before they absolutely had to.

Thrustbucket,
Thanks for the heads up on the Warner Bros. deals.

I just ordered Planet Earth and Grand Prix on HD-DVD shipped for $71.xx.

If anyone hasn't seen Grand Prix on H-DVD, it's amazing!!!

Many thanks to Thrustbucket.

Just ordered Planet Earth and A Scanner Darkly on HD-DVD for $71.xx shipped.

I was really hoping to find a decent deal on Planet Earth too.

I actually didn't miss the point at all. But the people who either don't have a modern receiver, or have plans to get one, or can't afford a $300-400 new one are, for the most part, also people who (admittedly like yourself) are the least likely to be able to notice a marked difference between unmolested TrueHD and a TrueHD soundtrack that's been recompressed to 1.5Mbps DTS and sent via S/PDIF. The difference is there, but it's subtle, and you need pretty decent equipment to bring it out. Probably a minimum of $1500-2000 worth of speakers, for example. The DTS transcode is still WORLDS better than the 384kbps DD we got on regular DVD. 95% of the consumer market will be just fine with optical or coaxial hookup for their surround sound. For the audiophiles who have to squeeze out every last drop of performance out of their movies, there's the option of either using HDMI with a newer receiver, or paying an extra $200 for the HD-XA2, which DOES have analog outputs. For those users, the small premium is worth it. For most people, it isn't, or an HDMI receiver is an expense they can put off until it's more manageable without too much compromise in performance in the meantime.

And I'm not sure why you're so harsh on the Panasonic. The guys on the AVS forum, who in general know a lot more about this stuff than you or I do, absolutely LOVE the thing. Sure it doesn't upconvert everything to HDMI, but then again neither does either the Onkyo or Denon I listed. The Onkyo does add upconversion from composite to component, but that's becoming less and less of an issue IMO The Panasonic remains a solid value at the lower end of the spectrum for those with relatively modest needs. It's not the piece for those who have an HD DVR, HD DVD player, Blu-Ray player, 360, PS3, and 4 other sources. It's for the average joe who has maybe 4 or 5 sources, with 2 or 3 of those in HD. That covers an awful lot of people. Would I take the Onkyo over it? Of course, and I'd take the Denon over that. But I'm currently waiting for Denon's 4308ci to come out, which is going to list for $2500 (I should be able to get it for around $1500). I'm not the target market for any of the three I listed, but I still have respect for what they are and the value they provide at their pricepoints.

I was almost tempted to do this, and i was doing the check out, and said...please don't be tax, and shipping better not be high, but its cheaper if i bought them from amazon......unless i was planning on buying sixty dollars or over's worth....but not exclusively warner.....otherwise this woulda been great. I loved the serenity buy.com deal....want another one like that.

yea i was planning on getting from amazon as well but this deal was pretty decent and i also got a decent price on scanner darkly

edit...ofcourse.. just received my $25 amazon certificate.... o well ill prob hold on to that for something else since i already bit on the warnerbros preorder... hopefully they ship fast too once it comes out... also hopefully they ship seperate and not together since scanner darkly comes out in april

Oh well...looks like Moviestop (or at least mine) will be receiving no business from me anymore as they have marked up all thier BR and HD-dvd's from 3-5 bucks apiece, even used ones.... I was there just a few days ago and saw Ice Age for 20 used... today it was 25

Does anyone know if warner will ship titles that are available seperate from pre-orders? Thanks.

just ordered Matrix Trilogy and Grand Prix.

That Denon actually offers full HDMI up-conversion (I've looked into it as I am going to purchase it as I said). Overall though it's hard for me to judge receiver quality really as I'm a true rarity when it comes to a/v receivers, while sound is important, I don't own awesome speakers or have a solid enough ear to really tell distinct differences. So for me, the video functions, connections, etc. all maybe even more important than the sound. It's my A/v backbone, and I simply need more out of my receiver's capabilities than what that Panny offers. I'm sure it's good for those concerned more with sound than their entire video setup and organization but it's just that its advanced video connections and functions are too few for me.

Well, I finally bit on a deal to get a little discount this morning. :)

CD Universe is doing the Google Checkout $10 off $30 or more, limit 2 orders per person. I REALLY want Casino Royale on Blu-Ray, as that CLEARLY is one of the best movies released on the format yet, but it was a penny short of $30!

Not wanting to get batteries as part of the deal, I did a LOT of looking. The GOOD news is if you need music, movies (including adult titles), or video game items... CD Universe has you covered. I seriously considered the Nyko Charge Station, but I haven't ran down ONE set of batteries in my Wii controllers yet. And the wireless controller bar sounds cool, but I'm not sure how to mount it on the wall above or below my tv... so I decided to wait on that too.

Probably one of their BEST deals is Serenity on HD-DVD. At $15.92, their price BLOWS other places out of the water. And since I'm a big fan of the show and movie, that was a no brainer. Would have PREFERRED that and something else JUST over $30, and something and Casino Royale for just over $30... but I'm REALLY trying to be thrify this month... so spending more that absolutely necessary isn't an option.

In the end, Serenity and Casino Royale are on their way to me for under $40. And that seems a pretty good deal no matter how you slice it. :)

I bit on the deal. Thanks guys:

1 Constantine (HD) HD-DVD Price $14.36 (Savings $5.59)
1 Departed, The (BD) Blu-Ray Price $19.40 (Savings $7.55)
1 Last Samurai, The (BD) Blu-Ray Price $14.36 (Savings $5.59)
1 Troy (HD) HD-DVD Price $14.38 (Savings $5.57)

Sub Total:$ 62.50
Tax:$ 5.00
ORDER BALANCE:$ 67.50

You guys know this covers Warner Blu-ray too right?

I bought an HD DVD player for batman and the matrix. (mostly CoM though)

Now Im dual format. uggh.

I'm getting an error when I try to use the 10% off code, or the free shipping code. :(

EDIT - Ahhh... I see now to do the 10% first. Trying it now! :)

EDIT 2 - I've deleted the Warner Brothers cookie, then retried applying the discounts with no luck. It seems to me the extra 10% and free shipping deals may be over. :(
