I think you're all jumping the gun on the whole instant rebate thing, but my guess is it's the instant, instore rebate that's making it $299 as three separate places have it on sale for that price next week and the instant rebate starts on the same day as the ads. Maybe Speedy can clear it up but my guess is it's not coincidence and the A2 is certainly $299, not $199.

Amazon.com currently has it for $277.88 and doesn't mention any instant rebates, and thats the price now, not Sunday. It also has the 5 extra HD DVD's listed.

I think this is it...an HD DVD player for under $200...your move Sony!
So do you guys think the rebate is going to come with the Amazon orders? If so Im all over that.
It says so in the press release....................

I've been to like 5 CCs in town and I can't find a suitable two dvd's that I feel like I could pick up with the HD ext. for the 360. Finally I decided to go with the DVD value over quality of the movie. I'd rather have CC give me 2 29.95 movies for free and me pick up the worthwhile movies at 24.99. THe only thing I could find was that was either 1/2 decent or that I didn't already own on Blu-ray or DVD was Slither and The Good Shephard. None of the circuit cities I stopped at had both in stock to where I felt comfortable picking up the HD ext. Then I go online and I see that the movies are anywhere from $5 to $15 more expensive online than in stores. Will the online match the in store price? Or am I just screwed? Seems like the hot titles aren't really making it to HD vs. virtually every new realease has been both blu & HD. I think the last new release that was strictly HD was Smokin aces right? CC has it to where you can only get 2 movies valued @ 29.99. I know b/c I tried to swing the Planet Earth set and MI set with my 360 ext. What would you do? Or what do you suggest in titles?

Must Haves:

Batman Begins
V for Vendetta
2 Fast 2 Furious

Those were my first HD DVD's :D

I'd recommend you pick up 2 of the most expensive HD-DVD's, and if you see something good coming out within the next 30 days, try to exchange them.

Here's the upcoming titles for the next 30 days:

May 15, 2007
May 22, 2007
May 29, 2007
June 05, 2007
June 12, 2007
Also, here's a list of what's out so far http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/releasedates_historical.html (may not be complete)
Also if you like the Matrix, you can always try to see if they are willing to exchange the 2 for one of the sets, and pay the difference.

The upcoming BB and CC ads include the rebate. Their pricing for that player has been $399.99. As for amazon, I wouldn't be suprised if they're already factoring it in. All the articles are stating that this will bring the HD DVD players to 299.99 and $277 seems about right since I think it was about $377 last week.

Now, not so good. And I don't have that much money.

With that deal for the Toshiba's HD-A2 I am probably going to go format neutral. Can anyone give me any opinions on the player?

TrueHD output through HDMI. 1080i hard to tell from 1080p. HD DVDs look equal, depending on the title superior, to BD. Negligable boot up time. Decent upscaling of SD DVDs. Awesome, especially at the price. Not noisey, and doesn't get hot.

Buy Batman Begins, Children of Men, The Matrix, and King Kong. And you'll like both formats equally.
The only thing my PS3 has on it is WiFi.

A2 is a leap from the 360 add on. If you're thinking of going dual, jump on this.
Watched Matrix Last Night, kicked some serious ass
If you watched it on HD DVD, then lucky you.

My HD DVD Matrix collection I pre-ordered from WB.com is scheduled to be delivered on the 21st. I can't wait!

Thanks for the info. One more question. What makes the upscaling only decent for DVDs?

I've seen the XA2 do it. So by comparison. But the upscaling is in not dissapointing.

You wont be sorry for buying it. I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy more HD DVDs, so I went for the entry level player. Im completely satisfied.

I was looking at the deal with the HD DVD movie where you get 5 free movies. The selection is weak. Are people exchanging these at a store for other titles or selling them?
Anyone know of any deals on the two Pirates of the Caribbean movies coming out next week?
Yes.... see the weekly uber threads for both Circuit City ($15 gift card) and Best Buy ($10 off).

Just to reiterate what someone already mentioned but Amazon sometimes does price drops and such early, and they need not mention a rebate as it's instant the customer never has to deal with it. Remember the last price drop to $399? Same situation, Amazon had under $399 before just about anyone else.

If I jump on the deal at CC for the Toshiba HD DVD player, Matrix and the 2 free HD DVDs will they except the $40 off $200 coupon with that also? Or you can't combine?

I don't see why not.

That would be awesome.

After doing a lot of research I am thinking about getting the Toshiba A20. Right now it is $399 on Amazon. So in June when Toshiba does the $100 rebate does it mean this is one is going to drop to $299? I think the A20 in store is $499.

I picked up Ultimate Avengers Collection today on Blu Ray 29.99 from Target... not a great deal, but I was definitely surprised that this movie was even on blu ray. disc has part 1 and 2...

I picked it up too a little while ago. Looks fantastic.

Used availability is spotty, but we should report the prices seen. I found The Departed for $19.99 at Blockbuster (Blu-Ray). Anything else to report?
I got Phantom of the Opera and Troy used at FYE for $15. They also had an instore 40% off coupon so I got them each under $10
Im headed there tomorrow after the Frys sell.

Fry's deals were one-day only. Some of the deals returned in Saturday's 1-day one-page flyer, but not the BD/HD-DVD stuff... King of the Hill seasons for $10 though!

Just came back from Frys store and they had signs and flyers up for the blu-ray b2g1 sale. Deal is good through 5-22-07. I confirmed that by asking an employee. But the HD-DVD deal is dead :whistle2:/

Well, the GA stores have a big "1-Day Only" thing for Friday's anniversary deals including one on both the BD B2G1 and the HD-DVD $13.XX deals. Perhaps some stores are running this as the regular "good through Tuesday" Friday ad instead of an anniversary sale?

Does anyone know if the So Cal Fry's stores are doing the BD B2G1F deal? Or anyother details for that matter? Thanks.

The B2G1 free for Blu Ray doesn't limit it to certain titles does it?

Obviously the lowest priced items is the one that's free correct?

What I hate is that half the movies I want to watch are on HD DVD and I have a PS3...
