On which site?
Ok, than if you want the consumer to have a choice, then Disney, Fox, Lionsgate...etc. should go dual as well ;)
You hit the nail on the head.

seems ign reviewed hd heroes

http://dvd.ign.com/articles/813/813943p1.html

To anybody still uncertain, Heroes on HD DVD is an excellent example of how the high-def format can enrich the content of a show - from the show's Tim Sale artwork to its well-integrated effects. A top-notch transfer.

The Bottom Line
If you haven't seen it - see it. If you have - see it again. This HD presentation is not to be missed. It is - in point of fact - fairly heroic in itself!
Looks like Bay apologized............
Did he apologize for Miami Vice, too?

That Heroes HD at $57 is seriously tempting, but I don't have the money.

Wasn't that Michael Mann?
If you're talking about FYE I'm sure they will, but why not use the credit online and save 10% and the trip?
Good point. I actually totally forgot that I could use the credit online. How good are FYE with shipping?
Looks like Bay apologized............
Oh Bay, you so retarded.

Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three blu-ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.

As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.

So today I saw 300 on HD, it rocks!

So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!

Michael Bay

Wow, I actually saw an HD-DVD player ad along with Heroes' release next week. First advertising I've seen from that camp. Too bad when people look at the BB ad for the coming week, they'll see the season alone costs $99.99. Ouch.

Yeah...that looks bad. Hopefully there's lots of people out there who do research...Got mine at FYE for 57.99 AR.

Yes, I agree....I wish all were dual format.

As for Heroes, I may just rent it....I watched them al in HD anyways, so I'm not sure if I want to watch it again. I may watch the first episode again though, as it is the extended cut.

Michael Bay has never made anything that I consider worth watching, so I for one won't miss not having his stuff in HD.

Hey guys posted this in the BB next week ad posting but thought you guys would like to know.

I flipped through next weeks CC Ad to see if we would have a deal on Heroes and all i saw was that the regular dvd edition is 37.99 and it comes with a deck of cards, and a coupon for 5 bucks off a t-shirt on nbc's website. Further checking of our system showed that there wasnt even a listing for the HD-DVD version. So who knows.

Heres to hoping that target does something but as it stands FYE looks like he best route.

Picked up 10 titles last night.

Lucky Number Slevin
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The Fast and the Furious
Unforgiven
Corpse Bride
The Bourne Supremacy
Clerks II
Blood Diamond
Doom
V for Vendetta

And with that, I've picked up all already available non-combo HD DVD releases that I had sitting in my "To Buy" catalog.

Brings me up to 26 titles total

Next paycheck: Combo discs.
Has anyone noticed titles with HD-only AND Combo formats?

Army of Darkness comes to mind.
Unleashed as well.

Universal "downgraded" those two in March to HD DVD only. My local Best Buy never sold any copies of AoD on either version, so they've got five combos and five HD DVD only.

Warner announced they are dropping some day and date releases down to HD DVD only starting October 2nd. Happy Feet, The Departed, Superman Returns, and Letters from Iwo Jima spring to mind immediately. I think there was maybe four more titles.

Nice. I just hit 26 as well today with one of the same movies you bought (Bourne Supremacy). I was going to order Blades of Glory since it wasn't terrible and to support the Paramount decision, but it has a higher than normal price despite not being a combo, so forget it. I'm done buying combos for now since more and more reissue announcements are showing up.

Yeah I was going to do the same intially. But after getting some rest, I decided against it. Price was a major contributor to that decision.

I was at Sams Club earlier and was scanning the cheap DVD section and completely forgot that The Ghost and the Darkness was a Paramount release. If handled properly, I could get behind that.

DVD Empire is now taking pre-orders for both Anchorman and Old School for November 27th.

http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_pr..._media_id=0&view=0&pp=&swit=3&week=11/27/2007

I'll probably grab Old School, and if Anchorman has all the special features from the "Limited Edition" release..I'll probably pick it up.

A major player at Warner just stepped down. It's interesting because you could look at various quotes by him and determine one of two things: 1) He favored HD DVD. 2) He favored neutrality.

Between this and the rumors that Warner would be jumping to a side that have been going all week, I smell Blu-Ray exclusivity for Warner.

That said, when it comes down to it, the HD DVD side has deeper pockets to pull from thanks to Microsoft, and it's somewhat difficult to imagine them letting Sony run off with a studio right away. It's probably not worth losing sleep over, as it's obvious at this point you will have to buy both formats eventually anyway.

If Warner goes Blu-ray, then the format has been decided for me. They've got the most titles I'd want to see in HD, and unfortunately I'm not stable enough to own both formats.

One thing I didn't mention, he may also be stepping down because that Total HD concept seems to be dead in the water...he was big on that.

Really, there are a lot of reasons he could be stepping down, obviously the most glamorous would be a loss of exclusivity to one side or the other, so that'll get the most play on the forums. Some people are expecting an announcement today, some people think at CEDIA in a couple of weeks. And some people think the whole thing is bullshit and nothing is going to change.

Look at it this way - the Paramount announcement came out of nowhere. Seems like most of the time this "highly anticipated" stuff never comes to pass...for better or worse. We'll see.

I'm not losing sleep over it. As KaneRobot alluded to, this stuff is so much better in our minds than reality. I remember when Moore stepped down it meant the demise of the 360 and the XBox department in general. Two months later and its still full speed ahead.

I wouldn't be surprised if he stepped down because the studio wanted to stay neutral. He may even end up on the Paramount lot today. My other favorite theory is that he got caught screwing his assistant.

A couple of quick notes off the top of my head.

The MSRP for both Anchorman and Old School is $29.99. Which means with my wife's discount will be under $19. And you have to wonder even further what Paramount was thinking making Blades of Glory MSRP of $39.99. It would be nice if later Dreamworks/Paramount releases would keep a stable $30 MSRP.

I watched Corpse Bride last night and it looked amazing. If you ever need a reference quality movie, this is the one.

So what is everyone looking forward to this coming Fall/Winter?

Excluding the major releases (Transformers, Shrek The Third, etc), I'm looking forward to see what Warner does with The Omega Man. And Universal just announced Pride and Prejudice (2005) for November.

And of course...

Blade Runner Collector's Edition Set.
So what is everyone looking forward to this coming Fall/Winter?
FMJ Deluxe
2001
Blade Runner
Transformers
Face/Off
Queen Rocks Montreal
Top Gun

Doesn't look like much, but once we're a couple weeks into September we're likely going to start seeing a few big names pop up for Christmas. I expect several more to be added to my list. Of course, if Warner goes Blu-Ray all bets are off.
Between this and the rumors that Warner would be jumping to a side that have been going all week, I smell Blu-Ray exclusivity for Warner.

That wouldn't make any sense.

Even though Warner is neutral, they were about as pro HD-DVD as a neutral studio could be.

Releasing movies only on HD-DVD, constantly bitching about how interactively wasn't up to snuff on the Blu side, delaying their movies because the Blu-Ray version was far behind the HD-DVD version.

Why would they go exclusive to that?

And I don't believe $$$ will be a huge factor. They are currently at the very top of the pie with 30% of all HD movie sales.

Tremors
The Omega Man
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (early 2008 :applause: )
The Kubrick movies (Full Metal Jacket/Shining/Eyes Wide Shut/2001/Clockwork Orange)
Blade Runner
Galapagos
Queen Rocks Montreal

And I'm hoping Warner will finally get off their asses and release The Shawshank Redemption. :bomb: GET ON THE BALL YOU fuckERS I NEED THAT IN HD :bomb:

The problem I have adding to my collection is price. For DVDs, usually $10 is the magic price point for movies I've really wanted to see. For HD, it's $20. When I go into Moviestop, I find that the only ones that are around my magic point are ones I already own on DVD. At this point, I have no desire to upgrade any of my existing titles, only add to the overall collection.
fuck paramount needs to release a night at the roxbury on hd
Also, Planes, Trains And Automobiles

Best Steve Martin movie ever released and it deserves an HD release due to it's treatment on DVD.

- edit Oh and National Lampoon's Vacation

That's the best Chevy Chase movie ever released and also a comedy classic that deserves an HD release.

Tell me about it. My wife and I picked up alot of WB's back catalog earlier this week and she looked at Corpse Bride's insert and ask why we didn't pick it up. And to pour salt further on the wound, it says "Coming Summer 2006"
That wouldn't make any sense.

Oh, I agree it wouldn't make sense on the surface. On the surface Paramount's decision makes no sense either. There just may be more at work here.

Here's the MS response (via AVS) to Bill Cunt's accusations of MS paying out to get Paramount on board. Frankly, if that money WAS exchanged, it wouldn't shock me in the least if Toshiba was the one paying. I know some people may look at them as Sony-lite or whatever, but it's not like they wouldn't have the resources to pull it off regardless.

Speaking of Billy, who recently (again) tried to defend himself from people calling him out for being a shill...this is making the rounds now. From a Blu-Ray put on/sponsored "10th anniversary" event for HTF and thedigitalbits:

ronandbill01.jpg

Yeah, people will make more out of it than it is, but it's still funny, especially with the hilariously overbearing anti-HD DVD stance his site has taken.
Oh, I agree it wouldn't make sense on the surface. On the surface Paramount's decision makes no sense either. There just may be more at work here.
It wouldn't make any sense at all. The deal would have to be so massive that it would be almost unbelievable.

There is bad blood between Warner and Sony. Sony outbidded Warner for MGM in 2004. Warner filed a complaint with the SEC back in 2002 over Sony trying to strongarm the DVD Forum. Warner was 100% behind HD-DVD before going neutral along with Paramount.

What does Sony have that would make Warner do such a 180?
Just got Heroes from FYE...I'll check out a couple episodes tonight.
