For a little "dark humor," here's the release lineup for 2/13:
Broken Arrow (Blu-ray)
Chain Reaction (Blu-ray)
Chronos (Blu-ray)
The Departed (Blu-ray)
The Departed (HD DVD)
Entrapment (Blu-ray)
Ladder 49 (Blu-ray)
The Marine (Blu-ray)
Phone Booth (Blu-ray)
Planet of the Apes (Blu-ray)
Reign of Fire (Blu-ray)
The Sentinel (Blu-ray)
The Usual Suspects (Blu-ray)
HD-DVD is lookin' a little lonely in there.
Wish they'd release the first Terminator film overseas since it won't be out here. I have the "Extreme Edition" (aka 1080p version) on DVD, and the third one on HD-DVD. Need to get the first one though.
With the studios that are already on board, I think getting out the Matrix, Harry Potter, and/or Lord of the Rings HD DVDs would go a long ways towards boosting sales right now. There's not much on either side in terms of movie selection to justify the cost yet.
I agree, especially if we get some $200-$300 standalone HD-DVD players by the end of the year as predicted. However, those aren't as big a deal as they COULD be since they'll be out on Blu-Ray as well. On a related note, it's a goddamn shame that one of the main reasons HD-DVD is so slow right now is because of Warner's "play fair" mandate.
wow just saw happy gilmore on hd dvd..
im suprised how good it looks
Yeah, that kind of surprised me as well. It's actually a fairly solid "tier 2" title as far as pic/sound quality.
