Heavy Rain Discussion Thread
So every third person game made needs a button specifically for walking so that you can turn the character with the left stick?
Show me where I said anything like this? Where did third person even come into the argument? :coolguyeyeroll: All I said was that by using R2, it allowed them to free up the sticks for other controls. How many other games have you played that use analog movements for picking objects up, reaching into pockets, and opening doors? (which is a big part of the Heavy Rain's fundamental gameplay)

I didn't even say it was the greatest decision ever. I just gave you the reason for doing it. For all the talking you want to do about fanboys and orgasms, if you could remove your blatant bias against the game when discussing it, I'd be amazed. This is always a trend when people start trolling. Nobody cares if you don't like the game. But the need to make others feel like they're wrong for liking it is ridiculous. Get over yourself.

OK consider me stupid, I played through the crime scene twice...where is this stupid muddy hill? I want to slide down it. Yes, seriously.
No..you want to lump in a great 360 exclusive in with 2 questionable PS3 exclusives.
I'll give you Heavy Rain, as the verdict is still out. But MGS4 is not a questionable game in my mind. You seriously appear to be trolling at this point.

If Malik is int he PS3 section of the forum... what else would he be doing?

Thanks for the code though Malik. ;)

Come the fuck on.

This thread is quickly spiraling of control into fanboy orgasms and lashings to those who don't want to make love to the hole in the center of the game.

Mass Effect was a load of shit. Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, but it felt like some garbage PC game you would buy at Big Lots.

Also, do NOT lump Mass Effect in with MGS4 and this fucking game.
When you enter the crime scene, head north to the train-tracks, then head east. If you use the awesome powers of the glove, then you should see footprints around the train-tracks which lead you to the hill.

I wouldn't call Mass Effect a load of shit. It did alot of things well and bad. The great far out weighed the bad and it was a well above average game.

MGS4 was a fanboy (of the series) cut scene orgasm. That's it. I had never played any of the others and the whole game I was like "WTF is this?" I ran around for 30-45 minutes and then watched a 60-75 minute cutscene. It looked good and I'm sure it answered a lot of questions but for someone outside of the fan world of Metal Gear it was a mess.

Mass Effect wasnt a load of shit. You are a butt hurt MGS4 fanboy who takes personal offense to attacks at the game. I am willing to bet you are a Sony fanboy and dont even have a 360. Did you even play Mass Effect? Or were the cut scenes not retardedly long enough for you?

Let's not derail this thread, but MGS4 was horrible, and I am a fanboy of the series.

I agree with Malik about the walking thing, do you even use the left stick for anything but walking, it seem all the interactive movements were tied to the right stick. There is no reason to make people hold down R2 just to move. Movement also gets clunky since they change the camera angle often enough so I end up walking around in a circle when I'm trying to just go in one direction.

I honestly would have preferred just to move with the left stick too, and it does make walking feel clunkier having to hold R2 down. it's a relatively minor issue to me but just something that stood out.

lol@raging in this topic.

I thought the demo was alright; the first scene was pretty awesome, but the second half was a real bore, and looked much weaker IMO. The walking mechanic is a bit tedious as well. I'm pretty sure a large chunk of the game would be more like the crime scene stuff, and not like the more action oriented first scene, so I'll have to pass for now;

Loved the demo and can't wait for the full game. February 23rd can't come soon enough. The walking isn't great but it doesn't really matter cause this isn't an action game, I'm not gonna be running away or chasing someone so who cares, plus I'm used to it from indigo prophecy.

Actually that reminds me....after the
asthma attack
in the hall and the
guy goes in Lauren's apartment and she starts screaming and stuff
you just calmly walk down to the door. I actually yelled out loud "How do you fucking run!?" I expected some X O R1 half cirle right combo to run to the door.

Really?
You don't seem like the kind of guy who would be in a hurry to save a prostitute, especially one who stole your money.
The walking actually makes sense now that I think about it because of all your actions being controlled with the right stick. It would probably be worse if you could control movement with the left stick directly but not move the camera with the right stick. I think Alone in the Dark controlled like that and that games biggest issue was it's controls.

Man Pizza is lame, Pastrami is 10X's better.

Yea the game (just the demo) is really inconsistent. Because at times it makes things super realistic and that makes the odd parts stand out more. Like for the fact you often times walk like a robot. The game is pretty interesting and it really delivers the narrative in a top notch way. But, it is a little rough...

I played the starting part three times; once for myself, once to show my gf and then my gf tried it. And each time it was completely different. That was pretty surprising and cool. The options were so limited yet it was really different depending on what you select.

When my gf played the chick got pissed off and yelled at her to get out in under a minute. Made me laugh...

She stole your money?, she didn't take any of mine, I just left my card on the table.
Eh, I wasn't thinking of running to the apartment, and probably because he just suffered from an asthma attack. I did wonder why he parked on the backside of the hotel and went through the alley. Did he not find any parking in front or something? Another thing I hated was the parts where you had to hold down like three buttons at once, that was a bit annoying.

Also, screw Pastrami, Gyros ftw.

Duh! So you could do that awesome three way button thing to slide his fat ass beside the dumpster.

I don't know what happened, but my screen blacked out right when I was going to enter my car at the end of the second scenario (I'm assuming it was the end). A weird static sound started blaring out of my TV and I had my volume up pretty high, so that scared the fuck out of me.

Decent demo from what was played. Will check out the full game when it's cheaper.

Malik, your trolling is getting a little tiresome. WE get it, you do not like the game. Go into another thread and talk about a game that you actually do like. This game literally has it's balls in your mouth because that is all you are talking about and constantly posting in here.

Yes a fat old man with an asthma problem should go run less than 10 feet to get to the apartment. I also forgot that the apartment has a whore in it. Those screams could have been of her getting it on.

The demo was great but far from perfect. It is a huge step in the right direction for a possible new genre of gameplay. It is also a demo and who knows what build it is from. I personally like it that an interactive movie has been made instead of another button mashing action game or another Alien FPS or another plastic guitar rhythm game.

I didn't play Indigo and the last time I remember a game coming out anywhere like this was on the Sega CD. Those games failed big time due to the lack of technology back in 1994/1995. PS1/2 Xbox, 360, Wii, Gamecube never really offered anything like this. It has people excited and if the storyline can deliver than the game is going to be a homerun.

I just finished it the other day. It's been a pleasure writing my review this weekend. I'll be sure to post it on CAG once the embargo lifts.

Sweet. Looking forward to reading it.

Did you guys know that if you take too long to save the prostitute she'll end up having a bruise on her face, on the other hand if your quick about it she won't have one. Also I mentioned this on the other HR thread, but doesn't the prostitute look a lot like Lisa Edlestein from House? Just a few things I thought was interesting.

Why do people think that disliking something in a thread about said thing is trolling? I am not being outrageous about my like or dislike of this game (like some people) and just want to have a discussion about it. Yes, it baffles me how some people think this is the best shit ever but I can also see how this game could draw someone in. If I was being outlandish I could understand but just because I dont like it that doesnt mean I'm a troll.

This game doesn't have "it's balls in my mouth" like you claim. If anything all the people raving about this thing like it is the best shit ever have balls in their mouths.

If this game wasn't a PS3 exclusive I dont think it would be getting as much attention/fanboyism as it is.

Isnt the prostitute the same chick from the original "The Casting" trailer from a while back? She reminded me of her.
I think she is the same as "the casting" trailer girl.
Same here but "The Casting" girl had much more emotion in her face. Lauren is like a zombie.

Beats me; freedom of speech is limited in these forums if you don't like a game.

Anyway, the Heavy Rain demo rocked. I could careless about the controls, since I understand the point of them. The atmosphere was great. Definitely preordering the game soon.

I think many of the so-called "reviewers" out there did not know how to approach this game, and therefore, are giving it poor reviews. I loved the demo. I am currently breaking in a new plasma TV so I played it as quickly as I could so I get back to putting in some more hours of actual TV and not games. However, this game plays like a modern noir movie IMO. It's all about the character interactions and the intricacies of the actual criminal case. Personally, I love detective stuff and this game seems like it's right up my alley. Will it change gaming though? I'm not so sure yet. I think it has potential to move gaming forward. I can't wait till I get my hands on this title!

What you fail to recognize is that people have just as much of a right to think that this game IS the "best shit ever" as you do to dislike it. If people want to like the game that much and get excited about it, you're a dick to tell them otherwise.

I think the reason people are put off by your desire to stay in this thread just to discuss the negative aspects of this game is because they're amazed you don't have something better to do. As others have said, go talk about a game you DO enjoy. Personally, I don't understand what you're trying to prove by staying in here to talk about the things you don't like about this game. Are you trying to convince people to not like it? Are you just here to rip on the people who do like it? You tell me when that becomes trolling.

I never told anyone their opinion was wrong. Questioning someone's claim that this is GOTY 2010 based off a demo isnt unreasonable. I like CAG. I take part in all kinds of threads. I don't only post in threads where I think the topic of conversation is the best thing ever. No one does. The thread is about a game. We are talking about a game and we all have different opinions. I havent tried to convince anyone of anything. If anyone thinks that then they are taking discussion about a video game personally and that is out of my hands and in the fanboy realm.

Good one.

Demo was a waste of time. The second part of the demo was horrible. who wants to go around looking at a dead kids crime scene where his father killed him. Controls are clunky, and why is there a button to walk, LAME! Game is going to fail hard

Did any of the Resident Evils have a devoted walk button? Ive only played one (code veronica on Dreamcast) and it didnt have a walk button. The reason I ask is because the 3rd person walking/camera changes making you walk into a wall or something reminded me of playing Resident Evil back in the day.

If that really were the ending, I'd have more hope for this game.

Yea. Up on the D-Pad.. :)

Resident Evil games all have tank controls. Up is forward, down is backwards. Left spins Counter-Clockwise. Right is Clockwise.

No walking button.

But the "walking around in circles" due to the camera changing has nothing to do with the "walk button". Indigo Prophecy...and Resident Evil (and several other games I just can't think of) suffered from this problem because the camera was fixed. I don't love it, but it's a style choice.

Because the developers have a specific angle in mind that they want you to see things at...when the camera changes from in front of you to behind you, it will also sometimes turn you around if you continue pressing the same direction on the pad. I agree this is annoying as shit, but when you're dealing with people's "art" there will always be things like this. Really creative people tend to be weird. Deal with it.

Yep, MGS3 was the best MGS ever. It's a fact. I wouldn't mind the walking and camera change, but it's because I end up walking in a circle at times and the camera keeps changing since I just walked back so it makes it very clunky. Just because something is a style choice doesn't make it not a flaw, and that is a flaw with the demo/game. If they were using RE style controls where up is forward no matter what direction the character was facing, it would actually be a bit easier. As it stands now, with the camera changing a lot it will be something I will hate, but will just have to deal with.

I just played the demo. I was weak.

I liked it, but clearly there are some issues. Walking is clunky being highest on the list for me. I was engaged though and I did like the feel and style of it for the most part. Still really looking forward to the full game, but the walking thing is a huge let down to me. Keeping my preorder for sure.

Can see why people are passionate on both sides. As of now, if the story delivers, I am on board. If the story is weak... then the whole thing will fall apart. Which I am sure most people already surmised.

Trust me when I say you gotta play through it at least 2-3 times. The walking controls are never quite as easy as just "pressing up on the left stick", but you do get used to them. And as it's already been brought up, they're like that for a reason. Anyone who can't get past it is an imbecile. I get that most people reject anything that is new and different, but it really isn't "game breaking" by any means.

The walking was a bit weird at first but I got used to it within minutes... it was no where near as bad as the tank controls of the old REs though.
