Is it just me or does Motorstorm start out really freaking difficult? It took me like 6 tries to get just to 2nd place on the first race. Most racing games you could get a AAA+++ rank by driving backwards on the first race. Maybe the concept of how to drive a rally race hasn't gotten through to my brain yet.
MotorStorm is really hard at first, no doubt about it. The reason I had no issues at first was because I played the demo religiously for 2-3 months until I received my copy. There's no denying the game is tough, and will get tougher. Once you figure it out though, it becomes a lot easier and you'll start to get first place.
I sometimes leave them running on my PS3 (like the one for SSD HD, R&C Future when I had the demo, etc.). You will only hear the music if you scroll to the go under the folder and just leave it there. If you want peace and quiet and don't want to adjust the folder, just place the game portion of the XMB on the memory card, saved data, or game data utility while idle.
It varies by racing game in my case. I play Burnout and NFS Carbon with triggers (the triggers on the PS3 controller are different, but I do not have issues using them), but most racing games I still prefer the traditional X for gas (like MotorStorm, Ridge Racer 7, DiRT, Foruma One: CE, GT games, etc.). I dunno, I've been playing racing games on PlayStation forever and it's what I stick to. But I will admit, the triggers are my least favorite feature of the SIXAXIS (everything else I like). I hear the DS3 is a bit better though. While we're on the subject, who the heck designed the SIXAXIS? I have issues with the analog placement, but far worse than that are those triggers. The triggers are the only way I play racing games on the 360; I have to use face buttons on the PS3 since my fingers cramp up and slip off those idiotic convex buttons. Ugh.
Like whoknows says, you can sort XMB content into folders (by pressing the Square button). Although for me personally, I kind of like the animations and sounds since they give my content life.Let's see... what else to complain about. Oh, is there a way to turn off the music part of the XMB? I'm getting really irritated turning on the machine to watch a movie and having whatever the top demo on my list is blaring its stupid little tune (seemingly 10x louder than anything else on the system).
