How do PS3 owners actually feel?

I frequently read Kotaku and one of the things that annoys me most about the site is "WEEKLY HARDWARE SALES" posts, where they post numbers of consoles selling in Japan...here's a little tidbit of information

DS - 172,359
Wii - 77,913

PS3/PS2/PSP - 51,857

This is usually the result: all of Sony consoles can't even outsell the Wii in Japan. I am posting this here hoping that strictly PS3 owners answer. On general gaming forums, it's just impossible to ask anything like this because you'll quickly be "proven wrong" or what not: people go as far saying "Sony should just pull out, the PS3 is dead" or "Sony fanboys have to be delusional"

Here's my question: do you sincerely feel like Sony has lost? If you own a PS3, do you feel like Nintendo is stepping all over you? Do you feel the urge to sell your PS3 while it's still worth $600 and wait for a Wii? Or do you feel that eventually, the PS3 will rise above the Wii, and you just keep it inside for the sake of not getitng into useless arguments?

Personally, I am a bit distressed over the whole situation. NiGHTS [one my most beloved games of all time] is being released on the Wii. And today, Nintendo bought Monolith, and along with it the chances of the Xenosaga franchise [a uniquely Playstation style RPG] also appearing on the Wii. It partially "breaks my heart" and makes me feel very worried. The same with rumors of other popular franchises [such as Final Fantasy] jumping over to the Nintendo side, it makes me very nervous..especially because

Quite honestly, besides the X-Box 360, the Playstation 3 is one of the finest pieces of consumer electronics I have ever owned. Everything about it, from the chassis, to the cooling system [while some put it down for blowing hot air, it does what it does and does it better than any other console] all the way to the Cross Media Bar and the solid feature set [when I opened up the consoles and saw the row of standards on the side, my heart skipped a beat] and the way every single firmware upgrade adds even more exciting features, just blows me away. Even the minor details, the touch sensing buttons to the orchestra tuning sound at the beginning, it just fills me with this excitement

And there is my frustration, I wish I could make the public aware of how speical the PS3 really is. The Wii has this insane, nearly mind blowing word of mouth which just sells consoles, even to people who don't even -care- about video games. However, the PS3 not only gets bad press, even the public seems to put it down and talk shit about it on a nearly constant basis. And I hate it, because I know if people gave it a chance: if they sat down and watched a Blu-Ray, if they browsed the web on it, viewed pictures on their TV's in full resolution, watched movie files from their PSP or PC, listened to music on mp3..CD..even SACD.., played some Motorstorm and some Virtua Fighter 5, downloaded Gran Turismo and Sudoku, and revisited the Playstation back catalog, I know they'd realize the PS3's true worth..

But at this rate, it seems no one seems to care to experience any of this. I realize I may get shit about this, but I just can't understand why some stupid sports game can light up the hearts of millions, but what I believe to be the first taste of the future of technology, has just failed miserably [so far] world wide

I want to know how you fellow PS3..PSP..even PS2 owners feel...a tiny part of me wants to say I'm crazy, out of touch..everytime I hear someone talk about how fun the Wii is, about how revolutionary the Wii is, I ask myself, "Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm just clueless and have no taste?"

But every time I power up this sleek black box, all my worries go away and deep inside I know one day people will realize what I've known since day one

now it's your turn, how do you feel?

My PS3 gets way more use than my Wii. Right now I am mainly using it for blu-rays and DVDs, but am also playing Oblivion and will be picking up Spiderman 3 on the 4th. I am 100% happy with my purchase of the PS3, and I cant say the same thing for the wii right now. There are way more PS3 games in the works that I want than games for the Wii.

I don't worry about the anti-sony/PS3 slate out there. It is the "cool thing to do" right now. But once more of the great titles hit, people will shut the fuck up and join in on the fun.
But once more of the great titles hit, people will shut the fuck up and join in on the fun.
That pretty much sums it up. Why be hyped about a machine that has no current killer apps? What's the point? I myself don't own a PS3 and yet me purchasing one is inevitble once MGS4 and FFXIII are released. PS2 went through the same thing it's first year and it is now the best selling console of all time. PS1 didn't explode it's first year either. What's the point of panicking? We go through this shit every generation so I have a "meh" attitude towards the lack of early PS3 hype.

I own a PS3. I've had it for a little over a month now. Not a fan of the launch games but I did pick up Virtua Fighter 5. Most of my time is spent folding.

How do I feel? I feel fine. I know that this console is still in a launch phase and that better games will be coming down the road. It also functions as my Blu-Ray player and I also use it to play PS1/PS2 games. I feel better knowing that I have the emotion engine chip in my machine as well.

Just for your information, I also own a Xbox 360 and have over 20 titles for it. I also plan to purchase a Wii as well in the near future.

I think everyone is unhappy about the price point so as NamPaehc stated, it's easy to bash Sony right now. Once the AAA titles hit, there wont be so much hate. Look at the previous console launches. Were the launch titles all AAA titles?

It all comes down to that absurd $600 pricing, and that it barely offers an experience equal to the 360 in most people's eyes. If Sony had a $400 console, half of the hate would disappear instantly.

The best thing Sony did for MS and Nintendo this generation is to include Blu-Ray, thus pushing their system into the "high end video/audiophile range" and away from what people think of as gaming systems.
Look at the previous console launches. Were the launch titles all AAA titles?
No, they definitely weren't, which is why I'm not sure why we have all this animosity towards the PS3... is price the sole reason people are bashing the system? I just don't really understand the thought process assuming there really is one involved in the PS3 bashing.

I have all three consoles. Like all 3... nothing wrong with the Wii... its gettting my time now due to SPM... and the web browsing is better on the Wii than the PS3... not to say I dont like my PS3, although its served mainly for folding and bluray

Honestly Im glad to see Sony's arrogance come back and bite them in the face, but I STLL like the console, had no problems with the price. The Wii set out to sell to non gamers... and is doing so, that is why it is selling, WiiSports, though simplistic is a good game for anyone to pick up and play immediately. I kinda like rooting for the underdog this generation. That said I think this willl end up being the closest round of video game wars... the 360 will lose market share, and eventually the PS3 willl gain more

i think its a great system. it does what it suppose to do and its also the cheapest blu ray player i think? i would get one but i can concentrate funds toward that because i just recently purchased a 360 a month ago and cant afford one. if there is a price drop soon ill be sure to get one because FF13 is exclusive to it right?i havent been reading gaming news latley.

Thumbs up in our household with more time logged than the Wii and 360 combined....folding in the day and Resistance free online at night, just picked up FEAR PS3 today for additional free online team play...

I've got a nice group of games for it and the future holds some interesting new IP, as well as sequels to series I like, so yeah, I love the thing. And I agree with everything you say about the technology behind it Sarausagi.

I don't really care what Kotaku or Joe Wii60fan thinks, my system won't blow up and die if the PS3 doesn't outsell the Wii. It'll continue to be supported, get it's fair share of good exclusives, and do well this gen.

A person could lodge any number of complaints about each system to paint a bleak picture about it's future, but who fucking cares...people forget they're game systems, not something worth idolizing and getting nationalistic about. The PS3 will do fine.

$600 is very hard to cough up especially since the other consoles sell for $250 and $400. Price isn't the sole reason but it seems to be the top reason for hate. Especially since the 20GB models have been phased out in the US.

It's also very easy to bash the PS3 and go for the 360 since the 360 has had time to mature and has seen some great releases while the PS3 is still stuck in the launch phase.

It's worse with games going multiconsole now. Every top headline seems to be "... is no longer PS3 exclusive".

I feel like over time, the PS3 will prove itself to be a worthy competitor.

I feel good.

I certainly use the PS3 more than the Wii which hardly gets any play outside of my GC games.
Even my old 360 gets more love, though it's more rare now.

Honestly, I play handhelds more than my consoles.

which is why the hate is really dumb...I don't go around saying Ferraris are shitty cars because a Geo Metro will get me from point A to point B. no, I don't have use for all the things a luxury car has, but I can understand the concept of extras adding in to the price, so I don't complain that Ferraris are too expensive.

Feel good, feel really good ^___^ I own both 360 and PS3 but I like PS3 more. I believe the PS3 will sell really well when Final Fantasy 13 come out. But what get me very excite is HOME. We will have Cheapass Gamer area and all the GAG member can join, talk sh...t about game and stuff. Invite other GAG member to watch porn ^__^; I mean educational VDO lol ........

I don't have a ps3 right now but I am 90% sure I will have one down the road. Once the price dips a bit and some games come out Im sure I'll get one.

Compared to most everyone, I only paid $500 for my PS3, since I bought a 20GB. Although I'll need a larger HDD one day (only 6 gigs less, despite removing some demos), I'm glad I bought it ($600 is too much for me, but $500 is perfect).

Before owning a PS3, I'll be honest that I wasn't 100% sure of it. When owning one, I feel so much better and cannot understand that hate at all. I was not expecting to be blown away at all and wasn't expecting much (due to all the crap it gets), and I ended up being very impressed and loved it. It bothers me when I'm checking Facebook groups (entering PlayStation 3 to join some PS3 fan groups), and I'll see a ton say the PS3 is shit (hardware wise). That is something I don't understand because between my PS3/360, I like the PS3 hardware way more (forget about software updates and games, I'm talking about the actual hardware itself). PS3 is definitely a fine piece of hardware that feels sturdy, very quiet, love the touch sensitive buttons, having batteries built into the controllers is nice (replacing my battery over and over again on 360, and in my Wii in the future will become annoying), and so on. I just love how it plays most all my PS1/PS2 games (one that don't support accessories) and other stuff. I know the SIXAXIS gets lots of hate, but I actually love it. I do like rumble for racing games (everything else I don't care, except REZ), but otherwise I'm enjoying the motion control. Many games do use it poorly, but I love how its used in games that do it good (like flOw, Blast Factor, NBA 07, etc.). It makes me feel that I'm not playing an upgrade of PS2 (last gen, PS2 just felt like a small PS2 upgrade, which had me very disappointed at launch).

As for games on my PS3, let me just say I'm far from being bored, despite having it since late Dec. Disc wise, I own AC4 (love it), Formula One (love it), MotorStorm (love it most), Resistance (like it, despite not being a huge FPS fan), Ridge Racer 7 (love it), and VF5 (love it). I still need to pick up Genji 2, Enchanted Arms (I liked it on 360, but getting for PS3 since I have more faith in my PS3 lasting. If my 360 dies again, I'm out of luck, since my warranty is finally up), Need for Speed Carbon, Virtua Tennis 3, and maybe a Full Auto 2 or NBA 07 (I like the demo a lot despite what some say). Download wise, I have: Lemmings (don't play it much anymore, but its fun), Blast Factor (fun with friends), Tekken 5 DR (still play it a lot), GT HD (play it a lot), flOw (rarely play it, but fun every once in a while), MKII (play it every once in a while), and a few demos like Hot Shots Golf 5 (play it daily, lol) and others. Some say PS3 has next to no games (which I can understand for most), but I'm having a blast playing what I have still and find myself playing them more than any other console/handheld I own (although my 360 collection is a tad small, I will increase it soon).

I completely understand about your feelings about Nintendo. I absolutely loved NiGHTs on Saturn (one of my favorite games ever), but I'm not 100% excited due to the way Sega has been lately. However, as for the Monolith Soft news, I'm furious I may never see some Xenosaga on PS3/PSP, but I'll just have to deal with it.

Most thing me being a Japanophile and all (although its dropping a little), I would just love the DS. That ended up not being the case, because its gameplay just doesn't suit me (going for different controls over impressive graphics), which is why I'm more of a PSP fan. Some feel I'm just a Sony fanboy (I actually bought a DS before a PSP by a few months), but I'm mostly into PlayStation/Xbox style games over Nintendo (the new Nintendo); therefore I prefer it.

I'll eventually get a Wii since there are a few third party games I gotta own (GGXX Accent Core if PS2 version doesn't come stateside, and DDR Hottest Party). I know the Wii does well in Japan, but there just hasn't been much that looks appealing to me, which is why I've held off. Many also saying they haven't been playing their Wii much (how it wares off), also puts me back (some say Zelda last, but I'm no Zelda fan). I hear some say it feels like playing DS on a TV to an extent, which somewhat puts me off a little (I like lay down and relax to play games, not stand). The biggest thing that puts me back is hearing about it being a big party console; however, I rarely have others to play games with, so it may not be as fun.

If most all Japanese games come to Wii/DS in the future, I might just support more western games in my future (for PS3/360 instead). It doesn't bother me since I enjoy most genres of games (except RTS and most, but not all FPS).

Im waiting for it to be cheaper in like 3 years. No games besides SOCOM that i know I would like. I was very disappointed last gen in the PS2, since I dont like RPG's and racing games. The day I played the killzone beta was the day i sold my ps2.

Honestly, there have been NO games on the PS3 that've made me feel vindicated for my puchase. Then again, I got the 60gb for just $450 (using an AMEX coupon)

My PS3 has a bunch of demos -> meh in my opinion, and now on of the games I had been waiting for 'Warhawk' has been muddled down to a firggin tech demo/online multiplayer only game, I am even MORE dissapointed. The only game I really WANT to play that's out right now, is Motorstorm, but even that is lacking system multiplayer.

What I am happy with so far is being able to play my PS2 games in 480p on my LCD. Using my Ps2 system on my TV made the games look like $hit! And its been the PS2 games that've gotten the greatest mileage on my system!

yeah, i got my ps3 with some major discounts for trading in stuff.

but all I use it for is to play ps2 games.

if i had paid full price, i wouldn't be too happy with my fancy ps2 machine. or if it was the only console i had. i have other things to entertain me.

With them ripping out the Emotion Engine and Blu-Ray players getting cheaper, the PS3 should be $500 by Christmas. Combine that with a killer app, and they will be fine. It's mostly about the games right now, of which there are none. =\

The thing that bothers me the most is the idea that there is a "war" going on, and that one console should "win" it. Admittedly, the PS1/PS2's performance in past generations probably contributed to this way of thinking. Of course, a lot of people like to see the top dog get beaten, and I think that's one of the main reasons that people seem to be going against Sony now (and the pricing issues certainly don't help).

But honestly, I don't really any console to "win." I just want them each to do well enough that they can continue to produce the unique games that we like on each system. While it might be true that having one unified system (or something similar to it, like in the glory days of the NES) might be better for the consumer in some ways, I don't think it would lead to better games overall. A lot of what pushes MS, Sony and Nintendo to create great games is the need to attract customers to their platform. And I must say that I don't want the Wii to become the "main" console for the next generation because the graphics are so terrible (by comparison) and the controls tend to be gimmicky.

Like dallow, I play my handhelds a lot more than my consoles these days, and I really think that the handheld market is going to be bigger in many ways than the console market in the future. You can play the games anywhere at any time, the systems and games are cheaper, the games are cheaper to develop (and thus more plentiful).

I feel the PS3 is fuckING AMAZING. i use it all the time. I do have a 360 and wii

I put more time in my PS3 i use for games often, downloads, sometimes movies. then 360 i use for gears. then Wii being last. I use my wii now only for StarFox 64. :)

Full price for me is worth it. I use ALL the features the ps3 has and linux.

I didn't read most of the replies, but here is what I think:

Wii and DS are selling amazingly well, no doubt about this. For some reason, people want to turn this into a Sony negative, instead of a Nintendo positive. The Wii had one of the best selling consoles in history. The PS3 has about average. I believe the PS3 is selling more than the PS2 at the same point in time, and is about the same as the 360 (of course, we can't say how demand matches up since there were supply issues). Anyway, according to current sales, PS3 isn't doing exceptional, but it isn't doing horribly. Wii is doing great, most people seem to say things like "The PS3 is being outsold by the Wii 3 to 1." Stuff like that. I realize its the same message, but it just seems to be put in a way that seems to fault the PS3 for not meeting one of the fastest selling consoles ever. If we compared all console launches to the Wii, most of them would look pretty dismal.

Sales on a $600 system are pretty good.

Yea. That's the thing, all things considered (more competition, higher price, late realease in Europe, lack of original games) the PS3 is selling alright. There is no doubt it has an uphill battle because of the high price, but it is still doing decent. In comparison to the Wii, it is doing pretty badly, but what console wouldn't when compared to the Wii?

If you want to get technical, I use the PS3 more than any other system. Even though I don't play any games on it, I have it constantly folding 24/7. I've had this system running constantly for about a month now and it has not overheated on me.(Something that I can't say for other systems)

$600 is well worth the PS3, in my opinion, if you are contributing for research on how to cure cancer. I don't think you can put a price tag on something so invaluable like that.

And once MGS4 and other AAA titles come in, along with price drops on the system and older games, like NamPaehc eloquently put it, everyone will shut the fuck up and stop hating.

I’m pretty indifferent towards my PS3 at the moment. I think it is generally a good piece of hardware; I like that it’s quiet and I use it to watch Blu-Ray movies. But I haven’t bought a game at retail since I got Resistance with the system.

I think comparing the PS3 to the Wii is kind of unfair to both systems. Sure, they both play games, but Wii is definitely built for more immediate, accessible pleasures, while the PS3 is built for epic, modern, blockbuster sort of games. That’s probably okay, because for the past decade or so, those are the games that have driven this industry. The only way this is bad for Sony is that the Wii has now inherited Sony’s secondary market – the quirky, lowish budget Japanese games. All those games were made for the PS2 last generation thanks to its ridiculous market share. And now all those companies can keep on making those same games, with the same graphics and budgets on the Wii, and they’ll even remain competitive relative to the other games on the system.

No, the real problem for Sony is that it’s competing with the Xbox 360*, and the 360 is better in many ways. Thus far, games released on both systems have been better on the 360. They offer more display flexibility, achievements, and much better online experiences thanks to Live. When I’m considering the issue of PS3 vs. 360, Live (i.e.: features offered by Live that other systems could support) is a big deal. The fact is, 360 online is better than PS3 online. Moreover, it’s not an issue of price, because if I could pay $50 a year to make my PS3 online experience as good as my Xbox 360 experience, I would. But I can’t.

The Wii has a good thing going, but I think it has a few problems. The graphics really are only passable now, and in five years they simply won’t be. Wii Sports 3 and anything rendered as a cartoon will look fine, but I think Nintendo may have shot itself in the foot when it comes to Metroid and Zelda. This year, they don’t look so bad, but in a few years anything trying to look close to realistic may fall flat. Zelda would be fine going Wind Waker style, but I don’t know if even Metroid’s stellar art direction will be enough to save it from 10 year-old hardware.

Anyway, the PS3 might have a rough time with quirky titles going to the Wii and everything else being out on… everything else, but in the end the PS3 will still have its first party gems, and for now it’s the best solution for a Blu-Ray player around. And who knows, maybe Blu-Ray, the standard hard drive, and maybe-more-powerful hardware will come through for games to give us something no other system can.

*So hey, I guess Japan is in better shape for the PS3 than I thought.

^^Totally agree with most of your points. That is basically how I see both the PS3 and Wii. I think Wii will definitely get and keep a significant lead up until mid to late 2009. Cheap hardware will attract consumers. Cheap development costs and a large fanbase will attract developers. However, hardware will become an issue sometime in 2009, and, by that time, both the PS3/360 won't be as expensive for consumers or develoeprs. That seems to be a huge problem right now. No one wants to make exclusive games anymore, and that's because, given the current prices, it just isn't pratical. However, like all technology, prices will go down, and once that does, both developers and consumers will make the switch from Wii to either 360/PS3. I think the two systems will be neck and neck during that time. If Blu-ray comes out on top, so will the PS3. If it doesn't, then the 360 will be on top. However, I believe, at the end of the gen, PS3/360 will be too close to claim a 'winner' and the Wii will be quite a bit behind in 3rd place.

I don't care about achievements since I only see them as a way of bragging. It bothers me that there will be people who will rent or buy a crappy game just to increase their gamerscore. I only want to play games I like. Secondly, I'm not a big online gamer myself, playing online rarely; therefore, paying $50 for something I don't do much isn't worth it, which is part of the reason online play makes no difference in which version I buy (I bought AC4 on PS3 and I'll probably get VT3 online). Last reason I'd get the PS3 version is hardware reliability. Why would I want to buy a game for a console that's on life support, where if it breaks (due to being out of warranty since the last repair), I can no longer play it (or I can play it if its constantly being repaired). That's why last gen I bought the PS2 version of most games, since my PS2 was more reliable than my Xbox (most experienced the opposite, but I had an Xbox with a Thomson drive). And then for me, I also really like the PlayStation controller design most and I just love how quiet my PS3 is. I buy exclusives on 360 (except a few multi-platform games, which are mostly designed for a PC, like a Rainbow Six Vegas), while I buy exclusives and multi-platform games on PS3.

Clearly it's a learning process for Sony in setting up the online portion of their service (as well as the online store). Right now it's not really even comparable to Xbox Live, but I don't really like to play online anyway, so that's not a major issue for me. The only reason I have an Xbox Live Gold account is that I got a year's service for under $10 at a Sears clearance. I think in the next few months Sony's online service will get closer to Xbox Live in terms of features. I just hope they're a little more proactive about standardizing the online features that games have. That's one of the appeals of 360 games. You know that every game has achievements, pretty much every game has some kind of leaderboard, etc.

I think achievements were a brilliant idea, BTW. Yeah, some people use them to brag, but that isn't their only function. I personally like them because they make you feel like you're accomplishing something by playing, and they help you get more life out of games by giving you additional goals to shoot for.

I agree with The Mana Knight about reliability. I've been running my PS3 pretty much non-stop for the last month and it's just fine. I wouldn't dare do that with the 360. And if a cross-platform game is about the same on both the PS3 and Xbox, I'll take the PS3 version because a) I want to support game production on the PS3 and b) I'm worry about the long-term reliability of the 360 and don't want to play it when I don't really have to. But if a game is markedly inferior on the PS3 (apparently FEAR is noticeably worse on the PS3) I'd choose the 360 version.

I've been staying away from the PS3, because I am very happy with my 360. Not really happy that MSoft is putting out the elite and the outrageous price for the 120 Gig hard drive. I keep hearing rumors of price drop and if they are true I am definitely going to go out an buy a PS3.

Do you sincerely feel like Sony has lost?

No, it's much too early to say that.

Do you feel like Nintendo is stepping all over you?

The Wii is obviously in the lead at this point. In terms of quality games it's not even close. There's really nothing available for the PS3 that I want at this point, nor in the near future. However, there are a lot of good titles coming later, which is the only reason I have decided to keep my PS3.

Do you feel the urge to sell your PS3 while it's still worth $600 and wait for a Wii?

I was given my PS3 as a gift, so I don't really feel the urge to sell it. If it would have been my money I probably would have sold it months ago. I have a Wii and it gets much more play time.

Do you feel that eventually, the PS3 will rise above the Wii, and you just keep it inside for the sake of not getitng into useless arguments?

It's possible, but I actually think Nintendo has a good chance to win this generation.

Do you feel that eventually, the PS3 will rise above the Wii, and you just keep it inside for the sake of not getitng into useless arguments?

It's possible, but I actually think Nintendo has a good chance to win this generation.
very interested why your wii gets so much play time? :D:D

I have a PS3. The only game I own is flOw. Thats it. No "retail" games as it were. Im sure Resistance is great but I hate FPSs. And as for Virtua Fighter 5, I didnt care for 4 that much to begin with. Ratchet and Clank and Lair on the upcoming list look amazing and I enjoyed the Ninja Gaiden demo even if its the same thing Ive been playing for a few years already. The PS3 doesnt have a great game lineup right now but the Wii stuff doesn't impress me all that much either. Besides Zelda, which I have for the Gamecube. So in final: meh. Its a great Blu Ray player. High def stomps all over DVD and kills it. The ps3 is worth it for that.
Invite other GAG member to watch porn ^__^; I mean educational VDO lol ........
dude, you rocks! just remember to invite me for the errr educational thingy ;)
i love my PS3 p-e-r-i-o-d! people gonna see it's true power soon, very soon... by then, i'm pretty much gonna say, "haha, in your face!"

PS3 doesn't really have enough right now to justify a purchase IMO. By the time it builds up enough to justify it I'll have the patience to wait for the $100 price drop. At that point I'll buy one with no problem. I've always been a one-console buyer and getting the ports like Oblivion and supposedly Eternal Sonata (still not official yet though) is a big plus for me.

For a console that's suppose to be doing bad it's holding its own very well. The latest EGM rumors have Disgaea going to the PS3 and Tecmo making an exclusive DOA game for it. Silent Hill developers are hinting towards a PS3 release (will probably be 360 as well though). Add that to Siren (PS3 exclusive) then other horror games will probably follow to PS3.

Nintendo is selling consoles, but for software they don't do a good job bringing in the type of games I like. Just a handful like Fire Emblem might attract those type of gamers, beyond that they are bringing in the casual gamers for games like Paper Mario and Wii Sports. Siren and White Knight for PS3 will atttract other games I like hopefully to the console. If FF13 stays exclusive then it could potentially bring in lots of JRPG's for the PS3 and those could potentially be exclusive.

I dress my consoles up in dominatrix outfits and make them pleasure each other in various different ways. Now what would I do if I didn't have the Black PS3? I'd just have 2 White consoles dogging at each other and that's not hot. And we all know the PS2 is just too old to do the really kinky stuff these newcomers really want!

Man people are going nuts for no reason. They don't realize the reason why the DS and Wii sells so much. It's simply because they reach an expanded market. Yet they're all obsessed with comparing apples and oranges.

Bottom line all consoles have thier audience. Personally I find the PS3 and Xbox 360 gets more use than the Wii because the Wii simply isn't appealing for playing alone and most of the games are pretty short term. However People sure have a blast when playing the Wii in groups.

I hated VF4 Evo and love VF5
I disagree.
Sure, achievements are basically bragging, but there are other uses. For instance, displaying your progress in a game so I know whether or not we would be matched well as opponents. Obviously comparing yourself to achievement whores is a waste of time, but they are a great way to keep in touch with your friends. Think of them like a modern version of the high score list, and only the people you like are invited to compete. Besides that, this little MyGamerCard link in my signature is part of the whole achievement system. And you can't tell me you don't like the concept, because you've got a PS3 version of it in your signature.

Don't think for a second that by "Live" I mean just online play. To be honest, I don't play online that much myself, but Live is still a big deal. It's such a big deal, in fact, that I won't play my 360 unless it's connected (of course, it's always connected). Live encompasses the connection to my friends, the fact that I can chat with them whether or not we are playing the same game, send and receive messages to anyone without quitting, and yes, invite someone playing a different game to join my game, already in progress. Of all the experiences I've had with my 360, I think my favorite was playing Uno online, listening to music streaming from my computer, while chatting to a friend in the army who was stationed in Korea.

I really hope the introduction of Home improves Sony's online segment, but I can't say I'm counting on it. I think Home must be a meta-game in order to succeed: it needs to be on top of every other game, akin to a second cross-navigation menu, and it's community features must be accessible across games. Unfortunately, I think the PS3's separate friends list for each game will make this pretty unworkable, and I'm really expecting Home to be similar to Second Life without the economics.

Finally, I think hardware reliability is the last thing you should consider when choosing which platform to play a game on (I'm talking about choosing between two platforms you already own, obviously). You bought the thing, now use it for all it's worth, because a better experience is a better experience. And just so you know I'm speaking from the heart, my second 360 is a little wonky as of late, and I've got a 3-year warranty on my so-far-flawless PS3. So, while I'm damn sure which system is going to last longer, it's not going to stop me from sticking to the guns I've outlined here.

I got one in December. I only have Resistance so far, but overall I'm happy with the system. Yes the game lineup is HORRIBLE right now. But I choose to believe it'll improve over time. Prolly not for a year or so, though.

Worsecase, it makes a damn nice PS1/PS2 console due to it running everything in Progressive Scan on my HDTV. That Home interface for the Playstation network looks promising, too.

Overall though, the PS3 is pathetic right now due to a lack of games. Get games? It'll be great.

Oh, and hardware wise? I think it's a lot better put together than the 360. It runs A LOT cooler, and prolly only makes a tenth of the noise, if that, of my 360.

That's actually my #1 complaint about my 360.

I still don't view the Wii as competition. More of a seperate market. I don't care if it outsells PS3/360 100:1. It is largely an overlap market.

I am more distressed about the possibility of losing to the 360. I was xbox last gen, and just went next gen with PS3 last week. I am the only person I know personally with a PS3, though I know 15 people with 360's. I know about 20 people who for sure will go next gen in the next year. It is tough for me to convince them to go PS3 with the current price. I am stressed that there will be no friends to play online with, lack of games due to lack of adoption. I went through that with the dreamcast. Sony has to drop the price soon!

It's the same thing.

Last gen, it was cool to bash the XBOX. Now it's the cool thing to bash the PS3. A lot of that has to do with Sony and thier fumbling out of the gate. Also, There is a preceived "Holier than Thou" attitude with big companies like Microsoft and Sony. And even though Nintendo is big also, a lot of the love they get has to do with the Original NES from back in 1985. And they are considered the underdog for some reason.

Me? I don't bash anyone. I have them all and when the PS3 and Wii libraries have a chance to grow, each system will have thier own strength that I will enjoy. No time for foolish fanboy-ism.

So far my PS3 has been less than impressive for me. I've watched more Blu-Ray discs than played games. Although, the 360 is my main console of choice...I have that attached to my 55" TV, the PS3 is on my 26" LCD (because it has HDMi, the 55" does not).

Maybe convience is why I play the 360 more. However, I only own 2 games...Resistance and Motorstorm (both got for free). I guess if I ever get a new MAIN TV, I may move the PS3 to it and probably play it more, but for now....it's a seldom used system.

I also bought the PS3 on credit I had built up, so I don't have any buyer's remorse either, as it was like "free money" to me.

Not everyone can spend that kind of cash on consoles. Most people have to commit to one... Having said that, for the first time (in 5 gens:NES,SNES,PS1,XBOX,PS3), I may have more than one, when the Wii hits sub $200.
