Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

I bet the banner does count, but if you check the site when you wake up, the price drop should be go and you could pay with a CC and guarantee pickup, I presume.
I was just wondering to myself about Costco.... I saw at my local store two days ago and they had a shit ton of these laying around.
Figures as much. Fry's doesn't have it on their website either. Seems like all these retailers don't want to deal with the potential fuck storm that would ensue with shipping. Or else they're salvaging and sending them back to HP.

I think they're sending them back as of 08/23 and they already received the email to take them off of the shelves asap...

Not sure where that is. I'm talking about the one in City of Industry, near Puente Hills Mall in SoCal.

The closest Supercenter which has them is 15 miles...I'll wait until 9am.
This sentence is self-contradictory: "the HP TouchPad is on clearance and we will no longer be selling the units"

The first part implies they're clearing them out then the second makes it sound like you can't buy one at any price.
That's what I thought, too. "No longer selling the units" could just mean it's no longer an actively stocked item, they're selling it for the clearance price only and once they're gone they're gone. Is there something else leading people to believe Best Buy won't be selling them, or just that somewhat ambiguous blurb?

Like I posted in the other thread I think my best bet is to check Sam's Club because they open first (at 7AM I think) and then Staples when they open at 8AM. I'm not going to lose sleep over this because I already have a Dell STreak but the bigger screen on this would be nice.

._. Our Walmart is 24 hrs? I could've sworn that it closes at 10 pm every night. Granted, it's been a long, long time since I've been there for anything (thanks Amazon and KMart) but when did that change? And good to see a local CAG

Can you post a link of a single best buy that is showing them in stock?

Man should I go to Wal-Mart right now? I just don't want to feel defeated again. I can't handle it.

Just because its discounted at Sams Club doesnt mean its automatically discounted at Walmarts right? Or has someone confirmed that they are on sale at walmart as well?

Hopefully your in bed by now, but just a heads up. Office Depot went from limited availability at all stores near me to pretty much out of stock within minutes. I shoulda went the cash route. Guess I'll look elsewhere.

I'm not sure when it changed, but my friend went there recently at 3am for paper.

Just call them first that's what I did..

Why is everyone wanting to go to Walmart? Has it dropped there, it doesn't reflect a drop even in my cart. Maybe you all have the muchies :whistle2:k

Most 24 hour wal-marts close their electronics section past 10pm or so, just FYI. Dont be disappointed if the electronics is closed when you get there:p
Can you post a link of a single best buy that is showing them in stock?
I'm not sure that means anything. My local Best Buys show a lot of clearance merchandise as out of stock or not available even though I know there are several of them sitting on the shelves. I just assume that in situations like this they prefer to avoid massive amounts of in-store pickup requests so they just remove the item's stock from the website entirely.

That's true, not to mention that the website hasn't updated the prices.

I didn't want to see off an alarm to the clerk that the touchpad was on sale, so I called to ask if he had any in stock. The guy claimed they don't even sell the Touchpad HP, and only the iPad 0_o

I have a lot more Wal-Marts I can call.

My point was their was an annoucement about Best Buy shipping all these back to HP. I would imagine that included those being sold in store; otherwise all the stores with "massive amounts" would still be listed as available in store.

However you may be right. I suppose we won't know until 10AM EST (at least that is why my store opens on the weekend) however there are safer routes for me and that includes sams club and staples because they open earlier and will have less of a crowd at the front door

People over at SlickDeals say Wal-Mart in-store deal is live. Good luck to all. I'm out!

Definitely something odd going on.

Best Buy has pulled its entire online stock, as well as Office Depot, and at least the 16gb version on Amazon. There hasn't been any reports of those places having the $100/$150 pricing tonight so it's not like they sold out. Sam's club had it for a few minutes and then all of the sudden they disappeared - much faster than would expected for selling out, unless they had a really small stock on hand.

Called my Walmart in Kennewick, WA. Clearance prices not yet live in their (local?) computer system. I was told that a manager "probably" has to enter in the new prices in the morning, "probably" at 8am.

Not sure I'll be awake then at the rate I'm going. But worth a check anyway.

Thanks, OP.

Office Depot actually has had a banner up for a while having the 16GB/32GB at $130/$150, respectively, and that deal is live now.

As far as the other stores, Amazon may have had very little in stock and sold out from people buying it hoping for a price match if the price does drop, seeing as Amazon still has the 32GB's still in stock.

Office depot shows 149.99 for 32 GB but only when selecting delivery, not in-store pickup. I'm gonna give in, and at the same time, check my local wal-marts here in the virginia beach area. We have 4 24hr stores all within 10 miles of me! :p
The Office Depot price isn't showing up for me. WTF!
I had to change my cart from store pickup to delivery to see the updated prices. Try that.

That's what's really odd. I wonder if it could just be an online thing because Office Depot had them in stock everywhere, then all a sudden, they didn't. Considering how hot this is, and the way things have been going on CAG, there is a good chance that they are selling out. Managed to get one 16GB for cash on depot, but if I go in the morning, I might have better luck.

Well I pulled the trigger. For $157 I am sure I will be able to do something with it. If the AndroidOs gets ported to this thing I will be super happy.

Got my order in for a 32GB for 149.99 at office depot. Now after i catch up on the jags preseason game, I'll check my local wal-marts and post back with my findings!

These will be nice if OD delivers. I think they're going to get WAY too many orders to fill. We'll see when they charge my card for the two orders I placed.

Gonna go in tomorrow as well to a few places to try and snag a couple for other people here in case their orders (or mine) dont get filled.

Thanks CAG, and goodluck to everyone!

Is office depot 24 hours?... Crap..
Office Depot...go go go!
Thanks, Linkin. Your "go go go!" inspired me to order one.

At first I was only interested in the 16 for $99, then saw the stupid $129 vs $149 price, which would be a joke not to upgrade for $20.

In for one at Office Depot, $158.99 shipped...hopefully.
