Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

Richard Kerris
VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

Thanks for the amazon/onSale heads up guys! Went to BestBuy this mourning with no luck. Hopefully this onSale thing comes through.
I pushed my order through after the 'Currently out of stock' notice went live. I printed my order confirmation, but have received no email. Also, I can't find my order when I look it up using the 'Order Status' link on the website (https://h20497.www2.hp.com/os/public.tcl). My order number, according to my confirmation, is seven numerical digits (#######) - is that what I should be using?

Want to know if this order is actually going to work!
No, that's not the right link. Someone posted the correct link a few pages back.

I have the same thing--confirmation number, no email--but the order status page says my order is "processing."

Did WebOS tablets just triple their market share in one weekend? I'm late to the party but thankful for the CAG who posted the OnSale Amazon link. Thanks phantomfriar2002 for posting the links.
Awesome, been waiting to snag a 16GB. Thanks!:bouncy:
just a heads up I dont think thats the actual touchpad, just a knock off (not sure about quality)
Selling like hotcakes Amazon
Anyone get one from here? Are the legit?

Edit: yeah seems like a knockoff, the ASIN numbers are different and there's no indication it's an HP.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

Got the deal on Amazon through onsale. $106 shipped for the 16gb model

Besides the zdnet article, anyone else got any other must know links about the Touchpad.

I may end up giving it as a gift

I hope they add it to the OP it is useful. Also this is on post #2657 as a reference in case it gets buried and I'm not around to post it.

Anyone who ordered from HP.com on the 19th
What is your status report?
are you still awaiting for cancellation or confirmation email?

I have been playing with the one I have for a day and I have no buyers remores it is a nice way to surf without fireing up a laptop. I look at the other things the xtras. Plays youtube fine. LOL They were just too dam expensive. I mean they feel so light what is the cost per unit? Now if onstar comes through.
Anyone get one from here? Are the legit?
A lot of us got them. I hope for their sake they are legit, otherwise the wrath of CAG (and probably SD) will fall on them. Plus, people have said Amazon is good at dealing with scammers on their marketplace.

Eh I actually might pass. I recently sold my iPad and used that to buy an ultraportable laptop as my secondary machine. I always loved webOS, but I pounce on good prices way too often. I think they'll be even cheaper in a few months anyway. Just like an old gaming console.

So this thing is essentially a dead device... why buy into a device that's going to lose all support? Am I missing something? It's not Android or Apple... so what kind of app support will their be in the future?

Got confirmation. Have been billed. Waiting for tracking.

I ended up buying 4 from them (xmas presents not resale). We'll see if they send them. I have never had problems that severe with amazon sellers so I think it will be ok

Ok I live in WI and was charged tax....OnSale seems to be based in IL but maybe they have a warehouse here. Anyone else in IL or WI get charged tax?

^This^ If we get scammed I'm pretty sure the A to Z guarantee covers our purchases. You can check it out here
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...1?ie=UTF8&nodeId=537868&qid=1313966144&sr=1-1
Plus I'm sure this has to raise a red flag at Amazon to see this many units move from a third party seller, so I'm sure they are going to ensure no one hacked them and that they indeed are doing their job right because otherwise it will fall on Amazon to cover the costs, which they would like to prevent.

It is getting android ported to it and, they will still support the operating system they are just giving up on hardware manufacturing.

About a couple hours ago I received a confirmation email, and my debit card was charged. I bought the 32gb version w/ a ream of paper, used the SAVE30HP coupon, and got free shipping. Total was ~$133.

BTW I purchased my Touchpad at 9:52p.m. on August 19th.

144 pages of interested people, but you can't bring yourself to read any of it?

There is at least some interest from other buyers for the WebOS platform... and there are people actively working on getting Android ported to it. Even without those things, $100 for one of the nicest tablets out there for web browsing, etc. is a pretty good deal.

4th time ive personally said this.
ANDROID IS BEING PORTED OVER TO THE TOUCHPAD.

I have not received either the confirmation or cancellation email
I hesitated and bought one from onsale.

i dont want no surprises tomorrow if i wake up
Anyways, i am willing to sell one for cost and ship if my hp one goes through

HP killed off the hardware, not WebOS. They are planning on keeping WebOS going. Also, group has already started on the plans to port Android over to the device.

Yea something seems fishy with the Onsale Touchpads. Why do they say "Smart Buy" in the title? When I Google it, it comes up with sites like CDW and MacMall. I went ahead and cancelled my order. I'm going to hope my HP order goes though.

Thanks dude. It worked... although, unfortunately, I'm getting the 'We are unable to process your order, please contact a representative at 1-800-888-9909' error that others have reported. Oh well.
Same here, thanks for the OnSale links. My parents are using some craaaappy old Dell laptops from the stone age. Even though these are being discontinued, this will be a great replacement for them to do web browsing & email.
lol same here, especially with my dad. Just uses the computer to read the news and surf the web basically. I don't think he even has an email address. This is perfect for taking to work too so I'm sure they'll be happy sharing one.

Personally I didn't need one.. but why the hell not? At 100$ it's basically a new toy for me lol.

Anyway, enough of hunting for deals. I'm going bowling or something lol screw this. Good luck everyone.

This is not even covering the homebrew stuff going on and the preapp program that allows you to mess with the Os. I am perfectly fine with this. For $100 less than the cost of 1 32GB Ipad2, myself, my sister and my Dad all have a 32GB Touchpad now. I REALLY do not understand the issue.

Who controls inventory availabilty on amazon? What through people off was the title. MAybe it was done on purpose. Between the hesitaters and second guessers. Stuff dropped out of the cart One minute it was out next it was in stock.
Yea something seems fishy with the Onsale Touchpads. Why do they say "Smart Buy" in the title? When I Google it, it comes up with sites like CDW and MacMall. I went ahead and cancelled my order. I'm going to hope my HP order goes though.
CDW and MacMall are both legitimate as far as I can see. Also the model # with a quick google brings up http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/pscmisc/vac/us/en/sm/notebooks/WF06b/FB454UT.html

This is a valid model #, as usual with amazon listing their can be many for the same device and you can find a lot of other e-tailers that use this model # for a listing. Just a heads up; plus Amazon will protect us, at the very least the only thing they will get out of us is our address and phone # because Amazon pays them, not our credit cards or banks.

I do have some regrets maybe about going with the 32GB version for $50 more (50% increase) but I have 8 GB of music that I would put on this thing so I would rather just have the space than wish later on I spent the $50.

"Smartbuy" has something to do with HP's sales policy for these because they can't be returned. I have a pending order on the HP store and it also says "HP TouchPad US 16G wifi Smart Buy" in the item description when I pull up the order status.

Decided to order a 2nd from onsale via amazon. I know it says Smartbuy in the top of the page, but in the technical details it says HP Touchpad and in the model number it says HP Touchpad, so if its some cheap knockoff or rebranded version I'll probably just return it. Now here's to hoping this is legit

I was hesitant to order at first because of the SmartBuy but search HPs website and it's some type of branding they use in order to sell cheaper to resellers.

I've personally bought stuff from a B&M MacMall in california so i can say they're legit (just hoping they have the stock to fulfill the orders). several local animation studios purchased wacom cintiqs (21ux model) from macmall in bulk and those go for $2000 each, so I wouldn't be worried so much about fraud as i would actual stock numbers.
