Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

Richard Kerris
VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
You guys might want to think twice about buying one. Mine was working great all day yesterday and today. Now all of a sudden I launched Picasa (not for the first time) and its frozen... dead... won't even power off after holding the power button down forever.

My only hope is that once the battery drains completely, I can rejuice it up and reboot it. Unless its fried.

No wonder they sold them for so cheap. Junk.

And yes, this was after the update to 3.0.2 webos.
Yep, clearly they're all bad. Everyone return them now. You have your orders, hop to it.

Anyways...it's the same hard-restart process as Apple products. From HP's Support docs...
Trigger a restart
1 Press and hold the power button.
2 While still holding down the power button, press and hold
Center until the HP logo appears (about 15 seconds).
Why this might help
A restart may be effective if the screen is off and you can’t turn it on, or if
the screen is on but doesn’t respond to taps or other gestures.
NOTE Because open applications are forced to close immediately during this
kind of restart, some unsaved data may be lost.

Finally OOS for onsale....after selling 1 million units, lol. Here's to everyone's sale going through or to the mile long angry forum for cancellations tomorrow!

Oh man was in stock and by the time I hit add to cart it had just run out. I shouldn't be buying this anyway... told myself I didn't need a tablet from the first ipad. Hell this doesn't even have native android.

Still... I'm sad.

lol

They restocked them again it looks like. It was just a few went in a blink. Might be gone for good now.

mine did the same thing and I waited for the battery to drain and now its fine again
Look for a reset tab to hit with a pin on the tablet. It should have one.
There is only one hole which allows a paperclip, but nothing happens when I try that. Its probably for the device used to open/service the tablet.

This is ridiculous. The screen shows the Picasa menu bar, no errors or anything, and all buttons and touchscreen are totally unresponsive, no matter how long they are held.

Do you think BestBuy would take a return? Probably not, eh?

What were you doing at the time, and how frequently does it happen?
MacMall keeps giving me an error when trying to create an account. PayPal isn't working for payments either.
I got all the way through to the Place Order page and hit the button and page wouldn't load.

I don't think they'd do a replacement, as I'm sure they're OOS. But they should do a refund with no problem.
Hey if anyone bought a 16GB one or 32 GB one and wants to resell, I'll be willing to buy.

Please PM :)
By stating to buy one from a reseller you agree to the terms and conditions of a non- negotiable price, and that you are in fact a virgin.
By reading this and/or considering this offer at all you agree to the above stated terms.
This is a legally binding contract.
I got all the way through to the Place Order page and hit the button and page wouldn't load.
I enetered all my CC info after constant spamming of the back button and verify order. Then it tells me it timed out and makes me relogin. Now I cant even get the main page to load.

HP has warranties on all touchpads for a year from whatever date they're bought.
That fixed it!! Damn, where did you find that info? I scoured the whole net for it!
So are these covered under any sort of warranty like a 30-day through Amazon or HP? Sorry if its a noob question.
They are brand new they are covered by hp with a one year warranty

Junk? This was never the reason. IF you got a bad one I am sorry but with all them being sold there will be a few that do brick.

Well thats good to hear.
Junk? This was never the reason. IF you got a bad one I am sorry but with all them being sold there will be a few that do brick.
Yeah ok, I take it back, not junk. Just a badly crashed app and me not knowing how to do the undocumented hard reboot.

I was in a redneck-mart yesterday in the afternoon and was denied a sale at the 99 price point, being told it was still 498. He claimed there was a memo telling them to not sell it via price match for that 99 price point (for walmart.com or any other stores without a "physical ad"). Walmart 15-20 minutes away noted it was active at 8am and the employee was feeding me a line, as did the others in the immediate area. Sent somebody back to that store and they were magically sold (calling bullshit, since they didnt budge since launch at the msrp).

I have to wonder what HP's thinking about all this...cant sell them for crap since they came out, but the fire sale starts, and from the way things look, they've probably managed to clean out most of the inventory everywhere on these things...

Just goes to show that they should follow the console markets better...cut the price down on the hardware, and make profits selling software for the things

I am not sure that matters anymore. HP won't give any type of refunds on these and they are out of the hardware business ( no repairs ). Yes, you might technically have a warranty, but no refund or way to fix them.

Because once you get out of the business, everyone who can fix them mysteriously disappears. There's no way that someone can fix anything now that HP has clearanced these out. Man I wish I knew this before buying:cry:.

I bough Need for Speed Hot Pursuit for it. The most expensive game at $10, but also takes full advantage of the hardware, and the game itself is pretty awesome. I'd say a must have. Even has its own achievements.

Was posted earlier in this thread as a reply to you by Ronin317. Glad it worked for you though.

Its all good...I know I would have been frantic if it happened to me:)

even if he only sells them at 110-120 each he still makes money but 8000 dollars is crazy

Some other guy ordered 9 and received 9 cancellation emails. Some other guy called him greedy because it says limit of 2 per household. He can't seem to fathom how that is remotely greedy.

Its still crazy to see the commercials for these things @ $399. The guys over at HP can not be happy about this mess.
I really, really, REALLY hope that D-Bag is out $8100.
Yeah, I saw that too. And I was thinking the people that ordered 5-10 were bad, lol.

Cue people spewing BS about 'if you don't like capitalistic America, get out of here' and more rabble rabble like that.
