We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

My order is still in limbo with the "3 days pending" shipping note.
LOL. I just had the same thought after refreshing this and other sites all morning.
wait... cheapassgamer? This is called cheapasstablets now. They just happen to also have some small video game deals on the side ;)

EDIT: I bet CheapyD is making a small fortune in ad revenue from this thread alone...

CDW.com had them in stock with the new price and the website overloaded. It says in stock, but i don't know for how long. It took forever to check out and the website kept crashing.
I have noticed that discontinued items will propagate eBay and amazon for hundreds over msrp. I expect the same for this further down the road, and that may be what these d-bag flippers are hoping to cash-in on.
Exactly. The flippers are hoping that not everyone knows the Touchpad's they are flipping for $300 are really worth $100ish. The sad thing is that those flippers might actually sell enough as well to make it worth their time in getting them. Trust me there's more then enough idiots out there who will pay $300 for one of these thinking they got a "deal of the year" when in reality they got ripped off.
I need to remind myself to actually check the CAG deals in case a video game deal pops up...this thread makes me forget what this site is actually for. :)
Even with all this fiasco I still had time to drop by Sears yesterday and pik up some games on clearance. ..

Well, put in an order for one at B&N last night and it still says "In Process: Not Yet Shipped" so I went to check local stores around town. I knew I wouldn't find any but I just wanted to be able to say that at least I tried. I went to two radio shacks, two staples, and Office Depot with no luck.

I now believe everyone when they say they're impossible to find. :p

 I've got a separate tab open on the front page for this very reason, just in case.
For anybody having video file woos...

Try this conversion program

Just select iPad as the output and works like a charm.
Thanks....what is the resolution we should be converting to? Will handbrake maintain aspect ratio? For example, if I have a 16:9 video, will it maintain the 4:3 that the Touchpad is (well, not really 4:3, but close)

I was able to order one on BESTBUY.com for IN STORE Pickup when they were $399. I picked it up in-store, and I have to deal with BestBuy online to get a price adjustment. Should be fine though.

I like the tablet thus far....I just need to learn all the tricks/tips, maybe find a case like the Ipad2...suggestions?
Like I and a few others have predicted earlier in this thread expect to see Newegg run these in their Shell Shocker daily specials in the near future.
I put one of the MSRP priced 32gb ones in my cart at around 11 in hopes of them reducing the price, I come back from lunch and it's gone and says the stock is limited/insufficient.

When I go back to the page it says they are in stock and at MSRP, I add it to my cart again and I get the same error.

This is pretty ridiculous.
Judging from all the "friends" you make on CAG, I seriously doubt that. But stay classy! :applause:
Haha yeah. I was advised to ignore-list that confooscious idiot a while back by a fellow CAG (I only saw his post in this thread because I wasn't logged in). Since doing so it his made the site much better, there is not a single poster here that like him. :applause:

On topic: Does anybody know if one of these touchpads can run League of Legends? Since they have bluetooth it would be a nice portable setup with a mouse and keyboard. Plus I could use it for netflix and whatnot. Even if they never get android on it, it'd be worth $100 for movies and light gaming.
Ok, so how fucking hard is it to keep track of inventory!?!?!? HP, Kmart, B&N, OnSale, OD... it seems that the only person that can do it properly is Amazon...
Hard enough when your servers are getting smash hammered by thousands upon thousands of bargain hunters, flippers, etc trying to get these discontinued tablets.

Someone at SD got an email message from CDW about their order.

Got this just now from CDW:

Unfortunately, we no longer have any of the HP Touchpads in stock and will not be fulfilling anymore orders at the special price.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thanks,

No Netflix, unfortunately :( I'm just planning on FaceBooking and playing flash games on mine...

Insight.com has 5700 of the 32GB, but they are still at the old price. They are one of HP's business partners website, so i wouldn't doubt that they will start the new price sometime soon. I would keep my eyes on them today.

Could you define the word "worth"? I think you're confusing "worth" with "cost". You simply can't believe that these are only "worth" $100. There are digital picture frames, media players, alarm clocks, etc. that all do less and cost far more.

I would say the market value for one of these is roughly around $300. That is why they are selling for that much on eBay. These will continue to sell for that much or more overseas for quite some time.

I simply don't understand why people think these will ever sell for LESS THEN $100 (Brand New).

They won't.

Edit: In the next 6 months

I haven't messed with it too much, takes forever on my computer. I just switch it over to the iPad Preset and don't touch anything else... So far what I've converted looks to have maintained the aspect ratio and if it's off it's only off a tiny bit.

I'm sure there's better tutorials around and will be more soon with the Touchpad sale. If you see any good tutorials let me know!

And as for the cases, just all of them are overpriced, the ones made for the Touchpad as well as the iPad ones. Obviously it's easier just to get an iPad2 one since they're almost the exact same size, although I haven't seen a specific instance where somebody posted if they've tried an iPad2 case and had it fit (should).

I talked with HP Small Business Cust Svc a few minutes ago because when I placed my order, it ended up going through twice because my credit card had some sort of issue. Anyway, I have two orders placed there (one for my wife and I, and one for my mother-in-law) and the dude said they are both backordered and should ship in no more than 3 weeks. So we'll see what happens. Both orders are in their system and confirmed and doesn't look like they will be canceled, so that's a good sign I guess.
Hard enough when your servers are getting smash hammered by thousands upon thousands of bargain hunters, flippers, etc trying to get these discontinued tablets.
Amazon managed to do it. I know smaller sites can't but HP? They are a fucking computer manufacturer after all. Best Buy is big enough that it should also have been able to manage.

Thanks for this, I put one in my basket in hopes they match.

I've seen people throwing around that HP will refund the offset of retailers that don't match the price on SD, but no one has provided any proof.

Yes. Human behavior makes me laugh. I was able to get one from BJ's wholesale (it's like sam's club) today. They had several in stock this morning but I'm sure they're sold out by now. The lesson is that people can try and horder a cheap product to resell for much more but they are too cheap to buy a membership to a whole sale store.

Haha, I had him blocked for a tiny bit because I was the focus of one of his tirade's once and I just had to block him. I remember I was pissed there was just no "talking" it was black and white, right and wrong in the tirade.

Anyway I since unlocked him and don't mind. You know, we all have our things that set us off, I just think he has more of them than the average person haha.

I'm trying to get a hold of them through the phone to see if they can override the system and give me the new price. I will report the news on here when i'm done, but it's going to be a while because i've been on the phone for 25 minutes already.

Someone said at SD that they talked to a guy at B&N, and he said if your order doesn't say shipped by now it will be canceled.

Edit: Another there said that if you've been a long time member at B&N that's done purchases in the past with them then your orders will be shipped first, and those that ordered and just registered for a member account will be shipped after they've taken care the theirs first.

I cannot find the link, but wasn't there a sign up for a waiting list for HP? My GF just decided she needs one of these. :whistle2:#

I know I saw it, but can't find it

I wouldn't mind so much about onsale cancellations if they didn't change status to shipping soon that they could lock up our money temporarily and prevent easy cancellations. Only reason I didn't try jumping immediately on the B&N deal when it was first posted is because it was already locked up in "shipping soon."

If anyone happened to still have a basket at hp smb with touch pads still in it you cam complete your order and it says will ship august 27th..just did mine amd went thru ..also confirmed my order for 1 32gb has gone to warehouse for shipping

I sent an email to their support advising of the price reduction.

LOL @ Amazon, there's on retailer selling for $999 with PRIME SHIPPING!!!

Did anyone who ordered from Onsale yesterday not get an email confirmation/shipping soon on Amazon?

I ordered early before they restocked and I feel sort of confident, just waiting for it to (hopefully) ship.

I've used AVS Video Converter in the past to convert to my Android phone. However, the presets in that program do not have anything for Tablets (although, I have an older version). I've used Handbrake in the past, but not too often. I remember it taking FOREVER also.
