Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
Not too bad. Hoping other sites put it on sale again. I didn't want to spend too much money on a $100 purchase, but I figure a keyboard and a case would be handy. What's the point of the touchstone? To keep it constantly charged when not in use? Is that necessary?
It also acts as a dock/stand which is sexy for a clock and keeping it charged. But you're right, I'd never get a Touchstone unless I can get it for $30 or less, and even then, it would be for my GF (as is the wireless keyboard I got)
I don't feel too bad spending around$90 on 2 cases and a keyboard, cuz I did save tons on my Tablets. Plus, HP website lets you use billmelater, which has no interest or payments for 6 months...I'm a sucker for billmelater =(
Hoping that maybe 11AM Eastern brings us some good news
What happens then? (Just got in to work and haven't seen what happened since late last night.)
Thanks, but according to the websites, BB, Walmart, and OD are all sold out of accessories in my area.
HP website prices seem fair, and there's a $15 promo coupon, and shipping is free on orders over $49 I think. Isnt that still a good deal?
It's $29.99 for the case, $39.99 for keyboard.
I don't trust the BB website at all. But, as Shrike mentioned above, in-store is a different story.

Shrike, I've had discussions with a BB Loss Prevention/Inventory manager before about their in-store system before (as they put blu-rays out when the fuck ever they feel like), and it's Real Time with the registers. If they're showing 14 in stock, they have 14, unless there were 14 of them walking around the store with customers waiting to check out. I'm betting they're stashed for employees to buy on lunch, or sitting in a box in back waiting for a supervisor to put them out.
They removed the links to the checkers from the product pages but if you knew the addresses of the links you could still check the availability. Someone posted those links several pages ago, but now those links just don't go to anything anymore.
Just look for an in-stock item, and change the sku in the URL to what you're looking for, then re-submit.

Personally, unless you are getting the touch stone, I see no point in the offical case. I hear a lot of good things about the Griffin case from Verizon that is made for the Ipad1. $10.57 shipped. I actually ordered one for mine.

Also, any Bluetooth keyboard should work fine.

I think if anyone want a wireless keyboard...Amazon is the best place to go to as of right now because its like a guarantee unless you can find it in local store...Price is $39.99 btw which is $5 more than BB and $10 more than OD.
I am making sweet love to mine when it shows up.
I hope you are considering applying a screen protector beforehand.
I hope you are considering applying a screen protector beforehand.
No way, bareback that bitch.

Odd question for you all. Anyone know the size of an average feature length movie ripped and put on the TouchPad at it's native resolution? I have a 16 GB iPod Touch and can fit a bunch of movies and apps on it at any given time. I was originally going to buy the 16GB TouchPad, but after thinking about it I realize that if I rip the movies at the TouchPad's resolution they'll take up more room than they would if I was doing it for my iPod.
So for anyone that has one, what do you think of it as far as out of the box? Or is a thread on this topic already exist?

I'm looking to get one for my wife to use as an e-reader mainly and then any web browsing while on the couch.
Right out of the box, its alright. Its a good reader out of the box. 10 minutes worth of simple patching, updating, and turning off tracking, and its performance increases quite a bit.

Got a link to the Verizon one? I can prolly hurry and cancel 1 case from my order and save money.

Also, any cons to it at all? Blocking the headphone port or anything? Seems unbelievable if all the holes coincidentally match up already

Thanks for the info. My wife couldnt care less but I DO!!

Reading through the posts here, I noticed some CAGs use their debit cards to order online. I can understand if they don't have a CC or the CC limit is maxed. But that's taking a risk! If something bad happens, they're out real money.

Just got up and looked at my HP Academy order again, of course it still says Item being processed. Just for the hell of it, I tried that FedEx trick again, which hasn't been pulling up anything since yesterday. And it actually pulled something up, finally! It's even passed the recycled tracking number stage, says I should be getting it tomorrow. Here's hoping! I ordered that case from Verizon yesterday, now all I want is the wireless keyboard.

I finally got confirmation e-mail on my order from HP SMB. Supposed to ship today by the looks of it, and given the small charge for UPS ground I hope it gets here by Friday.

Yea, I have a hard time understanding why anyone would chance using a debit card online unless they absolutely had no choice.

Update to all OD buyer:

Be careful when open the package if its same mine, you will realize ALOT of Dust Bunnies since the yellow package is fill with them.
Mine said that for about 12 hours. Then it went to "Released" yesterday around 12pm CST. It was shipped yesterday and I got the tracking number today. I should have it tomorrow. :bouncy:

Edit: I just went to check what time I placed my order because i never did get an email confirmation of my order. No time stamp, sorry guys. But my status says "Credit Ok" now.
Okay, great. :) Thanks for all the info.

As I expected...my B&N order was cancelled. Oh well. Guess I'm done with this thread. :p I'll check at the local BB next to the TRU when I go to buy a couple 1600 MS Points cards that are on sale today but I'm done F5ing on this one. :) Good luck to the CAGs still in the hunt!

lol supposed to arrive today as well based on the order details that I have. I'm guessing it may not actually be shipping today.

Well, 2 years ago I cut up all my CC's and decided to only keep one with a 500 spending limit, and a 0 balance on it for emergencies.

I placed an order on HP SMB, Zones, and B&N with it. That was about $400 total. I had no choice but to use my debit card for my Insights order. Coincidentally, it was the only order that shipped =)
I was afraid the other places would go through all of the sudden, or charge me right away like some places do.
I use CHASE, and my card has been stolen or used by someone else 3 times in 2 years. A 30 second phone call for a dispute and they refund me the very same day, during the very phonecall. I love Chase, they never even ask questions, except if I'd like a new card , etc.
This thread isn't dead yet?! Inconceivable! ;)
"I do not think you know the meaning of the word."

This deal is still kicking, so the thread continues, like the adventures of Remo Willaims.
...what?
The package that contain my Tablet contained recycle cotton or something, when you open it up it fly everywhere. They look like dust bunnies

So where is my best chance to still get one of these? Yesterday I called 3 local BBs every hour and they never had them and then today when I called they said they ran out of shipments before they got to our stores.

So is HP getting more today and is HP academy getting more?

I'll be sure to let my Dad open the box, haha.
Million dollar question. Or at least $99 to $149 question.
As of right now no...HP suppose to bring out more.

I don't know about the cons. To be honest, those are what I was wondering about as well. Worse case, I create my own hole. But its leather, LEATHER! I love that stuff :)

No prob

Call the 888 best buy, follow the prompts. Ignore their message and ask the rep to check via your zip code. The website doesn't show what just came in.

This landed me one. Granted I used my lunch break to get here lol. Fellow CAGers in Boston, the Cambridge galleria mall still have stock, both 16GB and 32GB.

Now anyone nice enough to link the cheap accessories lol.

Weirdly just got an order confirmation email from HP with my 2nd order that I thought was cancelled - with a ship date, confirmation of a credit charge, etc. - I figured Id have the other one shipped (which was ordered when SMB was still at normal prices) - but after getting that one pricematched to the discounted price, it is still in SMB limbo - but after speaking with a rep, I will probably get that one as well -

Just weird that the other one, ordered later (during the in stock glitches on SMBs website) may get here first when I wasnt expecting that one anymore at all.. My parents will appreciate that knowledge...

So a hoarder in the Philadelphia area bought all the accessories for the Touchpad and is now selling them on craigslist for $85 a pop. I hate living here.
As of right now no...HP suppose to bring out more.
Yes, but the million dollar questions are now wheh, where, and how much.....I am definitely if I see a large stock going to get more for fellow CAGs, I need to grab 3 anyways, why not bust out my entire wallet/card? Sad that more would rather join El Hoarders than stick one up to them

I use Discover, although I've never had my card stolen, someone did manage to get my CC info once. Discover let me know the day it happened and blocked all charges, got me a new card, and a new site account. I didn't even know what was going on. Oddly enough the charges were for Xbox Live and Netflix. Two things I never put on my CC to begin with but you'd think any normal person would buy them. Not sure how Discover figured it out but I am thankful they did! Funny thing, I have a $XX limit on my CC. Yet the charges were a total of about $80. Discover also gives 5% on certain things during a month + 1% on everything else.

I have a chase card, don't really use it except for on Amazon. Its good but I hate the customer service lol.

FYI I think there is probably going to be a limit of 1 per person if you order in HP's next wave. Don't screw yourself by ordering 3 or something. If you already have one for yourself and still want to help out, awesome! That's what CAG should be about :).

Behind a counter in the lower area, I'd say at least 10 of each. Wasn't a long line, call before you troop there unless you're close.

Also, green line is on a shuttle as of North Station.

6175778866 that sould be the number there.

This^^ My work internet keeps crapping out every 20 minutes. The IT gods are not shining down favorably on my these past few days.

Stopped in this morning at the BB I posted the photo of y'day and spoke to a guy in computers and he cleared up some questions we've been having:

* They were told on Thursday to pack 'em up and send 'em back to the distro center because the plan was to return them. Those who had a truck that night may've already sent them back. That store still had their stock on Saturday when the go order came - another nearby had sent there's back on the Thursday.

* We were discussing how it's a orphaned tech and I mentioned how some had commented that it was cheaper than a 10" digital picture frame and could actually do stuff, too. He laughed and said he'd thought of that and wanted to buy one, but THEY WOULDN'T LET HIM. He was very relaxed and we were speaking nerd to nerd and I don't think he was BSing me. While some stores may've had employees ganking them; it wasn't universal.

* He said they'd gotten 7 in yesterday via FedEx, NOT the usual BB delivery trucks. They have no idea if they're going to get stuff that way until the truck arrives. Because BB was first planning on returning them to HP for credit and then got told by HP that they could sell at that price and they'd be billed at an adjusted rate, this is why the stock is all over the place and coming in haphazardly.

The best advice he had was to call when you know the FedEx truck has been there because they get checked into the inventory system quickly and they'll know if they got them or not.

For those of you with Zones orders... I got an email back saying that purchase is still good, but backordered.

Here is the email:

Dear Customer,

Thank you so much for your order!

Our current inventory is fully committed. We are working with HP to secure additional inventory if it becomes available to fulfill any backorders. We should be able to confirm by the end of the week if your order on the waiting list will be filled.

Unfortunately, your order is currently on backorder status. At this time we do not have an ETA for the ITEM.
Items on backorder will not be charged to your credit card until they are shipped.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
