Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

Richard Kerris
VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

I know most want the TP for the sale price and there are also some that just a want one period at this point, so I just happened to search for them on bing and found that L2D2 has the 16gig for $238.95 + FS. Their rep is 95 from WOT, and a few people on their FB page have said they've ordered and recieved their TP in a few days. I hope this helps those still on the hunt for one.

That's a lot man. I saw a few on Amazon cheaper a while ago. I'm not sure they're still available.

I'll be a little dubious until it shows up here, though I'm even more surprised that OnSale seems to have pulled a Hail Mary out of this situation with the Amazon debacle.

Yes. Negatively... I don't know what the fuck they were thinking when the hired her.

Silly onSale that's not how you spell cancelled...wait what...my order shipped? No way, I'm still very skeptical as my tracking number doesn't pull anything up on UPS yet. But this is the closest I've gotten so far. Please jebus let my search for this infernal thing be over.

Where do you guys sign up for notification of these? I usually just see them here, though I never took advantage because I just got my touchpad yesterday, which of course is at home so I can't grab any of these until 6, which I am sure they'll all be gone by.

This is the first official HP TP newsletter I've received via email. It may take a month but you might get them as well.
On FB, I follow this page (http://www.facebook.com/touchpad.news). It's unofficial but they tend to do a pretty decent job of covering everything TP.
Is there a way to dled these free apps without entering your credit card info?
No.
Is there a way to dled these free apps without entering your credit card info?
No, to enter the code you need to have entered CC info. However you can enter a prepaid VISA card or something similar (i.e. a temporary virtual card, etc) since the card isn't validated until you actually do a purchase

I finally might get my 1st TP since status say shipped. Charging me tax even when I don't reside in CA is a bitch move though.

Hey....I didn't receive an e-mail about it getting shipped....should I be worried? I got a confirmation e-mail....I swear on my life.....I will rage if they cancel.....
Hey....I didn't receive an e-mail about it getting shipped....should I be worried? I got a confirmation e-mail....I swear on my life.....I will rage if they cancel.....
I didn't got a confirm email neither. Just put your order # and zip in order status, it should tell you.
I already went back to my iPad 2. There just aren't enough apps and features on the touchpad, to warrant me using it over my iPad 2.
Then would you like to hook a CAG up with your unwanted Touchpad? :) PM me if so.
I already went back to my iPad 2. There just aren't enough apps and features on the touchpad, to warrant me using it over my iPad 2.
Not needing iTunes to actually be functional is the most important feature of the touchpad for me.
rumor has it that amazon's tablet/kindle hybrid thingy might drop next week, at a price of $250... i'm done trying to find a touchpad.
I think they're only announcing it, not actually releasing it yet
I think they're only announcing it, not actually releasing it yet
You are absolutely right (link). If it amazes me enough, I will have to pre-order one for my dad. He loves to read and would like him to make the change from print to digital. I hope it has a display size as big as the DX.
rumor has it that amazon's tablet/kindle hybrid thingy might drop next week, at a price of $250... i'm done trying to find a touchpad.
This. I sold my TP as I already have a laptop and whatever I want to do I just ended up going back to the laptop. One thing I can't do on a laptop or the Touchpad (without straining my eyes, being uncomfortable) is read. The Touchpad is not very good for reading on (though the kindle app is functional so it isn't terrible), and so I sold it and will most likely buy this new Amazon tablet/kindle instead.

For anyone that's still wanting a Touchpad I'd say get it if you're actually going to use it for web browsing as it's comparatively good at that. It isnt limited like most other tablets. Otherwise I just don't see a lot of use for it unless you don't have a laptop.

Regardless it's still worth the $100/$150 price but as long as Amazon includes a year of Prime with their device, that's definitely going to be more useful for me.

I made an account AFTER I ordered....I got confirmation but where can I find it....this site is so faulty....I am scared that it won't go through because I did that foolishly.....I DID get the confirmation order e-mail but no word yet from the actual shipment happening....

y don't u look up on ebay?
My OnSale one shipped too.

Kinda surprised to be honest lol
I think this might become another B&N deal. I got shopping cinfirmation 12 AM Sunday. Could mean order was processed earlier and email only just got sent or could mean automated process kicked in and sent out all these shipping confirmation before actually shipping anythIng. Guess Monday will tell like Barnes when they sent out mass cancellation emails.

anyone got anything from hp small business yet?? i dont get how onsale can already get their hands on more TP but hp small business haven't send out yet

Yeah, a few of us already received TPs from SMB. Mine came in the week before this one past, Sept 14th I believe. Though those were probably ones they found in inventory somewhere. Not the ones currently being manufactured.

I love my Touchpad, worth $99 easy, but I don't have another tablet and never owned one. So I can't compare it to an Ipad. But why would I want to? An IPad is $500 at its cheapest, and even if I don't use it for more than a comic reader and net surfer, it's still an awesome steal.

I have read more comics on this thing in a week than I have my entire life. Awesome.

Have you not seen this?

Why would you still want a gimped Ipad over Android?

My wife and I got ours from HP Small Business on Thursday. Both 32gb models.

Is there a free comic book reader app, or just the $1.99 one? I looked but I couldn't find one, but you never know what I might have missed.
