I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

ICv2 has obtained a list of the Best Buy stores that will be running 50% off close-out sales on anime beginning March 1st (see “Best Buy’s New Anime Strategy”) (article link is at bottom of this post). Do not despair, I don't think they're getting rid of their anime, from what I can see on the article, they're trying to boost their anime sales by having a huge sale on it, calling it a clearance.

Think I already said that. Still there are some shows that you could get at good prices. Just have to be a savy shopper and be aware of what stuff sells for on other sites.

Robotech Protoculture Collection- I had bought this previously from Best Buy and it is listed in there anime section. Thanks for the heads up, I'm going clear out my local store.
 
According to anime news network, best buy told them that list isn't final, so some of the stores on the list or off might not be accurate. Hopefully we'll get a confirmed list soon, since it is supposed to start in the beginngin of March. And Best Buy prices are often good in anime, 25-35% off retail for a number of anime companies. The additional 50% off will make them better than most other avenues.
 
The New Hartford NY store lowered their DVD selection by half already and their anime section was never that good compared to their sister stores in Syracuse. I know there is a School Rumble season 2-2 set calling my name when the sale hits, but that's all. I'll have to take the trip to Syracuse to get the stuff like Ranma and the comedies that are a little harder to find if the sale is indeed 50%.

Yeah they tend to have good media blaster prices. Unfortunately that also tend to not actually get MB stuff on the release date which can be pretty annoying.

It did during the last 50% off sale which I reported last year which is when I picked this set up.

Trust me, it won't. I work there and it's dead all the time. Most people go to the West LA store, that one is always crowded.
 
Yeah I'll be curious to see how blitzed the store I will be able to get to about a week after it starts. Personally I rarely see any huge amount of anime moving at my local stores and they have enough volume they were spared from the list.

Yeah I might have to complete my Gurren collection if it is at the best buy I go to.
 
guess i'll be at best buy near me on sunday see what they have good. the one thats really close by though doesnt have much of anime section so i guess i should get there early.
 
Awesome OP, I was starting to panic about getting presents for my wife's birthday. Now it will be smooth sailing, I will just have to decide if I want to surprise her or bring her there on Sunday so she can pick out everything she wants. I think I know most of them though.
 
So what does everyone think the tier A-titles will be that won't be part of the 'clearance"?
I hope that Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist aren't on that list. And what about the Akira Bluray that just came out, getting that 50% less then a week after release sounds quite amazing.
 
Awesome. My bank account is already flinching at the pain about to be inflicted on it but, 50% off anime cannot be ignored - especially when both my local stores are running the sale... :bouncy:

I really hope so, too. This could mean $15 Akira Blu Ray five days after release! Luckily I'm home sick from work today, so while I'm resting in bed I can come up with a huge list of what to look for. I have a feeling my bank account is going to be angry at me....

They announced from the very beginning that they were going to release it in both formats. They said it was so popular that they were going to release a sub only version first because they could get that out quicker.
 
Eh...not sure how to feel about this yet as I'm really unsure of the selection but I might give it a go when the sale starts.
 
I would guess this is going to be titles in their Anime section... and not blu-ray's that are Anime... that would mean that you could technically get "Gotham Knight" 1/2 off...

That said, I can walk to Best Buy next to my house and they are on the list and most of the clientele is pretty "ghetto" would be the word? So I don't see getting something I want a problem, I will probably pick up Witchblade as I have heard good things... maybe Death Note, I'm currently watching it through Netflix.
 
Damn, went to my best buy I hadn't been to in a month. They used to have a big selection of anime. It looks like most the older stuff was shipped to other stores cause they only had really new thin packs
