A Heartfelt HELLO to all my friends at CheapAssGamer!

I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

Here's the listing of the 400+ stores scheduled to run this sale:

From ICV2.com news:

"Best Buy’s Anime Close-out Stores March 1st to 21st

Published: 02/20/2009, Last Updated: 02/23/2009 04:45am

ICv2 has obtained a list of the Best Buy stores that will be running 50% off close-out sales on anime beginning March 1st (see “Best Buy’s New Anime Strategy”) (article link is at bottom of this post). The sale will run from March 1st to March 21st and allow these 460+ stores to reduce their SKU count dramatically, as part of the chain’s move to concentrate its anime efforts in stores where anime has performed best.

Here's a comprehensive article on Best Buy's new ANIME Strategy as mentioned at the top of this thread:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-02-20/best-buy-to-change-dvd-strategy

Finalized list: here.

I've got 2 stores in my area so hopefully I'll find some stuff of interest.

Also, animaniac provided this coupon which can be used with this sale:

Also Rambling Hearts is only so so.... I love Shojo... So If I dont think its worth the 15 or 20 bucks you spent then maybe you should return it.

Here you can watch the entire series on Hulu

http://www.hulu.com/rumbling-hearts?c=Animation-and-Cartoons/Anime

So before you open the box and watch a few episodes. If you like it keep it...and if you don't return it.

Oh yes Glass Fleet is also quite bad I hear. But I havn't seen it myself.

Did they have Kino's Journey at your store? Its a really great series.
Ok Full Metal Panic (red box) is season 1. Full Metal Panic The Second Raid is season 3. For the love of god go out and buy
Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU

right now! its the second season and by far the best one! They are all rather good tho. I recommend you watch this series in order 1st! Please go buy
Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU

right now!
I have to second that. FUMOFFU is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen, and that is coming from someone who hasn't seen the 1st season at all. All I saw was FUMOFFU and I still enjoyed it.

I'm going to go see if this is still in the store. Can I watch this one by it-self? I can't find the other ones.

Thanks
Yes you can because its the 1st season and it doesn't end on a cliff hanger. However you should focus on finding Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU too. Because it is made of win. FMP TSR is good....but can't compare to the 1st two seasons.

Full Metal Panic is an intresting series.

The first one is a mix of action/comedy.
The second is pure comedy
The third is more action drama.

Out of the 3 the second season is my favorite as well, then the first season, and finally the third. It's a great show and well worth watching but you could skip the third season entirely and not lose out on much.

Rumbling Hearts is VERY depressing but also VERY amazing..the writing in it is top notch and myself, being a fan of action animes, enjoyed it thoroughly
On another note, anyone wondering if the Live Action Death Note movies are 50% off, I checked the kiosk and apparently the first movie is. I found it in my store and it is indeed half-off which would make it $9.99. I'm not sure if I'll buy it or not. Anyone know if it's any good?
I thought both movies were good. First being the better of the two.

The live action Death Note counterparts didn't do anything for me. Fair or not, I found myself making comparisons with the anime and judging it rather harshly. It was creatively limited overall. The anime seiyu voice actors were perfect, and no real life people were going to do them justice in a condensed movie.

Stick with the anime. At least the first part/season was excellent.

This may be a dumb qustion and kinda off topic but i was watching an anime on cartoon network a while ago and i like it but never could find out the name. I remeber it had something to do wich a bunch of what i think seemed to be vampires chasing a little girl. This little girl had some people protecting her for some reason and that about all i have as a description. I only caught the last 5-10 min of the show and i never saw it agin if anyone has any idea pleas elt me know. thanks

keep in mind im in no way a true "fan" of anime i just thought this one was kinda cool.

Here is what I got so far:

Hellsing OVA 1-4
Black Lagoon Box Set
Neon Genesis Eva
Code Geass Part I-II (I cant find part III )
Solty Rei Vol. 1
Glass Fleet Vol. 1

Hit up the Seekonk, MA store and picked up full sets of Negima! and Black Lagoon for $17.50 each. :) Thanks, OP!

Okay I have a fews questions here. One discounted anime BB didnt have the price decrease for new titles through the kiosk and another did, color me confused.
So I finally found a store that would let me order Princess Tutu: Complete Collection [6 Discs]-Dubbed-DVD for $17. This is just a re-release to the one in the system from 2005 correct? I'm not really getting english only none subtitled version I hope? On that note are all those orange DragonBall Z seasons the same? Season one had a uncut sticker but S2 didnt? How many seasons do you guys recommend before its senseless anime filler for DBZ? I never watched that one.

...
Unfortunately, it looks like Part III isn't a part of the sale from what I've seen. Even the kiosks are showing it as regular price no matter what, be they the individual volumes (5 and 6) or the boxes (regular edition and limited edition).

I could be wrong, though. I really hope that I'm wrong. ;)

how bad is the Full Metal Panic Heavy Metal Collection? I heard the packing is really bad and it is missing the extras, but it is a lot cheaper than buying it separatly. Btw I decide to buy if because of their appearance in Super Robot Taise W.

To me it sounds like Blood+ check the wiki to see if it looks familiar

I think that was Blood+

Picked some stuff up today. Unfortunately despite being in the anime section, Pokemon is considered "family" and wasn't half off.
So I finally found a store that would let me order Princess Tutu: Complete Collection [6 Discs]-Dubbed-DVD for $17.
You actually found a store that discounted pre-order anime? Mine here didn't do it, and I'm not sure if any others nearby will. How many stores did it take before you found one?

Little Nemo in Slumberland was in my store's anime section and marked $6.99 but did not ring up for half off. I just used the $3 off Chex Mix coupon because my cashier was fairly inexperienced.
how much do part one and two of code geass go for ?
they are $29.99 sticker price each so you get them for $14.99 + tax (each)

So, what is the farthest distance you have gone to take advantage of this sale so far? For me, it was about 80 miles to Christiansburg, VA (one-way) so far. I am tempted to go the Durham, but that is almost a two-hour drive for me.
I'm so confused.
SO, FMP + FMP FUMOFFU = FMP = Heavy Metal Collection?
I'm gonna do order it today, but if FMP is 600 minutes, and FMP fumoffu is 300, and FMP - Heavy Metal collection is 900, I assume it's both combined. Also, I didn't see FMA The Second Raid in any collection. Was it ever realeased in any collection?
Thats what I am guessing but the collection doesnt have the extras according to another CAGer. Second Raid is not in any collection because Funimination has the right instead of ADV

40 miles so far and that Bestbuy is great than my local Bestbuy. They gave me 50% off on Gunbuster vs. Diebuster Blu and had 4 copies of 5 centimeters per second.

Lake Geneva, milwaukee kiosks which is on the list didn't discount anything past the first week of Feb for me. Kenosha WI has at least 30 percent more price discounting, titles like Tutu went from 36 preorder to 17, and about 1/3 of the feb titles and coming preorders as well unlike the others. Its still hit or miss I found older stuff like Case Closed Season One and Two stuck at the higher price at all three but there is differences out there.

I think Second Raid is going to hard to find at this point :/
What extra's? I don't really watch commentaries or anything like that.

may be hard for some stores, but my store has like a dozen copies of FMA and FMP all seasons

Finally picked up Freedom and Vexille on blu ray. Of the six best buys ive been too I have only seen one copy of akira and ghost in the shell 2 on blu ray, both of which I picked up. Plus I returned akira with my receipt for the one I bought for 30 when it came out so I got some money back. Anybody watch gunbuster vs diebuster on blu ray yet? It says its in 4:3 ratio on the box. Was going to get it but not if it isnt widescreen.

A collection for Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid has been released. It's the fourth box in the 5th row in warhawke's post here.

So far I bought Kino's Journey, Death Note (box 1), Elemental Gelade, One Piece (box 2), Story of Saiunkoku (box 2) and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (LE) from the sale.

Oh I know that because I brought it too. I was referring to a collection with all 3 seasons.
Oh I know that because I brought it too. I was referring to a collection with all 3 seasons.
I found it. It was listed as FMP - Complete collection. I think it's correct, since I found the matching picture as the guy who posted his list/pic.
I wish Moribito came as a set, instead of 1+2 in one package, and then 3 separated. Anyone know why there are 3 different prices for the Naruto Boxes?
There's one for 29.99,39.99 and then 59.99( Which is LE ). Are extra's gone from the cheaper sets?

btw is the San Jose store the one near Almaden Expwy? I stopped by there real quick yesterday but didn't see any notice on 50% off and they were still quite well stocked. The store I picked up Ghosthunt at had the 50% signs on the shelves in the anime section.

shoot...didn't think about Akira on bluray. I so want to get that. Unfortunately all the stores around me have 0 copies left according to their online stock checker thing.

I am confused as well w/ all these FMP collections. This is what I know:

I got back from my local BB and I managed to get 2 preorders in on sale at the kiosk. One Piece: Season 1, Fourth Voyage (17.99) and Negima: Season 2 Part 2 (21.49). They had my Kujibiki Unbalance and Ranma Set 7 for $20.00 at the kiosk as well. I wished listed a lot of sets and I see the are at full price at home. This is making me wonder that if I go though all 4000 listings and wish list what I want, would some of them show up on sale back at the store. I'd think so. I went though about 1250 out of the 4000 listings and it seemed about 10% of the titles are on sale at the kiosk and it's really random.

On a side note, if you go to the kyosk, look up Excel Saga. I see they had the set for $7.49. A steal!

bought Witchblade Collection and Kino's Journey. Kino's Journey sounded interesting but I'm curious, is this worth keeping or should I return it?

Kino's Journey is great and well worth the cost. It's fairly short too, so it won't take a huge time commitment.

Question for those who got the RahXephon:

What's the difference between the Rahxephon: Complete Colllection
and Rahxephon: Grand Canon Colllection ?
40 miles so far and that Bestbuy is great than my local Bestbuy. They gave me 50% off on Gunbuster vs. Diebuster Blu and had 4 copies of 5 centimeters per second.
May I ask you which store you went to that still had 5 centimeters per second? Thanks!
Question for those who got the RahXephon:

The Complete Collection is just the TV show while the Grand Canon set also have the movie
I forgot about those movies. Though I was only decently interested in the [adult swim] run of the anime, I'm much more interested in seeing how they translate that into live action. Checking the BestBuy.com site, it looks like the live action movies are listed under "drama" rather than "anime." Did you find yours in the anime section or with the regular movies? And of course the big question: did it ring up 50% off or did you have to argue for it?
I don't know if your questions were answered already but my Internet connection was down for awhile. Yes I found the live action movie in the anime section, and yes it rang up at 50% off. I just wish they had the second. Not that I liked the first one all that much when I watched it but they're kind of two parts of the same movie.

My final haul today, as I don't see anything else I'd be interested in buying.

5 Centimeters Per Second ($11)
Love Hina: The Complete Series ($18)
My Hime: Anime Legends ($18)
Negima: The Complete Series ($18)
I think that was Blood+
More likely Trinity Blood
Little Nemo in Slumberland was in my store's anime section and marked $6.99 but did not ring up for half off. I just used the $3 off Chex Mix coupon because my cashier was fairly inexperienced.
Oh I luv that movie. I remember the game 4 the NES was fuckin dope XD!
I think Second Raid is going to hard to find at this point :/
What extra's? I don't really watch commentaries or anything like that.
Yeah me neither. I jus want the complete collection of the seried.

which is just a recap film of the series and a complete waste of my time and money. At least that's how I felt.

fuck yeah, best of both worlds here. We have 2 Best Buys in town, and one of them is on the list, so scoop up some deals now and then the other one will still have plenty of stock.

Not that I buy anime much these days anyways. I may scoop up some deals, but I realized a few years back just how fucked up the pricing is in comparison to normal DVDs. Especially when the American companies aren't even producing the series.

I ordered the two complete sets of Full Metal Panic.
I trust you guys :)

I also got FMA S.2 for half off. I have to PM it, since none of the stores with anime on sale was going to get it.

I found Gankutsuou, complete series, for around 60-70 bucks, from 189.99. It's the complete series in a holographic box. Opinions? :)
( Just noticed, Rightstuff has it for 50 bucks :/ I'd save 5 bucks after shipping and etc. I got it for 65, but forgot to use a coupon.)

Manahawkin NJ (Store 1177).

Yeah, that store is more better than my local store(Mays Landing NJ Store 581)

Awesome, awesome series. It's extremely dark and very dramatic, though it keeps itself from pouring over into melodrama. It is not a popcorn flick and it will force you to think.

Story-wise, it's a retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo. In space. With giant robots.

Aside from the Rightstuf sale that you've found, Funimation has announced they will be re-releasing the series in a thinpack.
