I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

ICv2 has obtained a list of the Best Buy stores that will be running 50% off close-out sales on anime beginning March 1st (see “Best Buy’s New Anime Strategy”) (article link is at bottom of this post). Actually, I didn't realize that Blu-rays weren't eligible. The media manager was walking around, asked if i needed help and I couldnt (for the life of me) find their anime... and it was in a weird spot of their DVDs anyway (with no pictures facing the aisle). I asked if it was a store doing 50% off, he said he thinks it was still going on. He scanned my Akira and a randomly picked up Fruits Basket, then said that he will just manually do it if it doesnt show up properly anyway unless the promo ended (but there was a banner on the website still). He was more than happy that people were buying up the anime. I sorta feel bad that it's not supposed to include blu-rays and he sold them to me anyway :/

At the time he was really pushing as much anime as possible on me (one of a half dozen customers in his store anyway), though, so I picked up Samurai 7, Afro Samurai s1, Akira, One Piece Movie, (non-bluray) My favorite DBZ movie, Howl's Moving Castle, two disks I hadn't bought of Noir... and then a little bit of stuff to help offset my expenditures.
 
Has anyone else noticed that the kiosk seems to have failed completely for instore pickups? I read the last three pages, so I apologize if there was anything posted, but I found a store that had the second Big O collection in stock according to the kiosk (not on the website, but the little banner on the top that invites you to check other's stores' stock). So, I put it in my cart and check out, and the website says there are no stores within my selected zipcode that have it in stock. Fair enough, I think. So, I find an Anime just for kicks that I know I've seen three of in the same store, and check the Kiosk. Kiosk confirms that it has three like I know the store has, so I add it and do an instore pickup. The website allows me to select the store, so I pick it. Later in the checkout process, it shows the three nearest stores, two of which are greyed out and the one is in normal font (the store I had picked earlier) to indicate they have stock.

Then in red text, down a bit, it says something to the effect that the store does not have the item in stock. o_O It was getting late, so I didn't get to play around with it more. Is doing instore pickup from a sale store kiosk to pick up from a nonsale store dead?

Those three discs you describe are all just previews for other Funimation licensed series. The second set you mention, the thinpack set, is correct but the times you have listed are all completely wrong. I'd just advise to get the thinpack "Complete Series" set. The other set has an artbox and standard dvd cases.

Hmmm, I tried it on saturday and sunday and it worked fine. Yesterday I just printed the section with the price from the kiosk and went down to the other store and had them price match the add (being that it prints out as coming from bestbuy.com and they match their site by policy). I did that instead of In-store pickup so I could use the $3 off coupon as well.

lol, I'm getting Samurai 7 as my last one. My wife put her foot down on any more anime spending off this sale being that I've done about $500 worht of damage to my paycheck :D

I have never known a franchise to have any policy other than saying that they explicitly do NOT match their website, and that includes several attempts at price matching a website price in-store at Best Buy.

You sure you didn't just get a pushover at checkout?

On bestbuys website it says they honor prices at website. circuitcity did also before they closed sears does. im not sure what others. but bestbuy will price match another stores website as long as the actual store is within the area of that bestbuy. Stores that do not honor website i know for sure cause they have signs near service desk. walmart target

So this could probably be used to get the discounts at a non clearance store, right? I might try to have my brother print some stuff out, then fax or scan it for me, then I can try it at a non clearance store. Too bad I didn't realize it earlier, I could have saved $20 on shipping, plus another $21 with coupons. It's not too late, though!
 
I loved S~cry~ed, but just don't watch it in english. I can't stand the girl with blue hair's voice. King of Bandit Jing kind of was boring to me. I watched it when it first came out though. I might like it now...?

I'd buy S~cry~ed from someone if they grabbed a complete version.
 
scryed is a cool series...just the ending was pretty weak. The fights are explosive and fun to watch though.

One of the best titles in the sale, though there's a widespread problem with the third and fourth episodes on the first disc.

Is there a work around for the problem (disc replacement, etc)? It's mighty hard to pass it up at $9.99 but if I can't watch it it's basically worthless.

There's no replacement program yet, but you could always keep returning it until you get a good copy (though I have no idea what the ratio is of good to bad copies). I would *hope* that Media Blasters would eventually offer replacements, since the issue renders those two episodes completely unwatchable. I'm currently sitting on my defective copy, hoping to get it replaced someday.
 
I went back to Best Buy. The section looked picked through but there was a good amount of stuff left. All the Girl Who Leapt Through Time LE sets were gone and the Ergo Proxy set I wanted was missing too. :whistle2:( I stood in the section for 5 minutes debating if I should get Shin-chan but I decided not to. I'm done with the sale. I think. I hope so. My final haul:

Well I finally got the Kiosk thing to work. I guess when I used it the first time, the BB associate took me straight to the website. This time, I just started at the main screen and searched for the DVDs I was looking for. I got what I was looking for, except for 1 DVD set they said was available, but couldn't find when I went to pick up, (School Rumble, Season 2 Part 1). :bomb:

By the way, I have the Samurai 7 Blu-Ray set which I got for 50% off, but I'm debating on whether or not to keep it. What I'm looking for is Case Closed Season 1 and School Rumble Season 2, Part 1. In case I decide not to keep my Samurai 7 Blu-Ray, and if someone has those two brand new and sealed and is willing to trade both for it, let me know.

Did Samurai 7 :br: ring up @ 1/2 off, or did they do a manual adjustment?

I'd keep those for sure. Najica is a guilty pleasure of mine. I just love the whole atmosphere of Magical Shopping Arcade.
 
Yeah, I thought the problem with Phoenix was its second disc? But apparently there's problems with the first disc? Now I gotta watch through that disc to make sure it's all right. I might as well sit down and watch all of it. Disc 2 was pretty fantastic, so I don't mind plowing through the rest of the series today.

EDIT: Also, finished up the Trinity Blood series with buying the Virdian collection. Total cost of the series after coupon was 3.98+tax. Not bad at all. There's also some more free anime to be had-- some volumes of Desert Punk are 5.99 before discount or coupon, and some Full Metal Alchemist DVDs too. I should have grabbed some just to have it for free, but I was more concerned with using the coupons towards sets I wanted.

Also, Intial D Second Stage was marked 29.99 at one store, but I found it at another marked at its true price of 14.99, which makes it 7.49 after discount, or 4.49 after coupon. I grabbed it because I always liked the concept of a car racing anime. Hopefully I'm not too disappointed.

Cowboy bebop is very good.
You could consider returned black lagoon, even though its suppose to be really good. Just keep in mind that is only season 1 and if you like the show you will have to buy season 2+ at full price. This really limited that I only wanted to buy completed shows. I dont want to buy more anime @ full price down the road to complete the story.

Agent Aika (assuming it's the R-16 Virgin Mission one) isn't even quite softcore porn, it's just plain fanservice, so if you expected something pretty-to-look-at *and* entertaining, that's not what you want. I considered it myself, but I'm just not sure there's enough to warrant a $10 price tag... Divergence Eve is quite awful, and despite how all the pictures look, it's not laden with fanservice. Suzuka's kind of slow-paced melodrama in my opinion. It's pretty, but I found myself bored and uninterested, looking forward to watching the catchy ending theme more than anything else.

You should definitely NOT get rid of Cowboy Bebop, and I disagree with whoever said to get rid of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, I've just started watching it and am finding it quite entertaining.

For those who have it/have seen it, is Negima much like Love Hina? I know it was done by the same creator, but I really disliked Love Hina, so I'm hesitant to give Negima a try, despite the pretty characters (which is what lured me into watching Love Hina in the first place).

ok im thinking of picking up najica from the kiosk friday there are two complete collections on the site one from 2005 ($35)and one that came out last month ($30) can some one tell me if there is a diffrence in the two.

It has to be "old school" hivemind. I like the old OVAs, but I'll never believe anyone hates on 2040 because of the story, considering it actually had one. I say keep it, the personal interaction between the characters is worth it alone.

I'm about to go order Love Hina and Najica. I get mixed reviews on Love Hina....What's it about? All I know it's about a guy that becomes the manager of a all female hotel.
