I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

ICv2 has obtained a list of the Best Buy stores that will be running 50% off close-out sales on anime beginning March 1st (see “Best Buy’s New Anime Strategy”) (article link is at bottom of this post). Just another interesting note.

I went to pick up my order at a local store that wasn't having the sale and noticed that some of the Beck DVDs I ordered were stickered at the 50% off price! The other items in the order weren't, though.

One of the Beck DVDs I ordered to ship to my house was in stock at that local Best Buy even though the inventory checker said they didn't have any left. That was also one of the ones that was marked at the 50% off price. It's too bad that it was already too late to cancel my order as I could've saved an additional $2.49 in shipping. Oh well.

I tried it using AS S1 as proof of 50% off :br: at 4 different BBs.

I had AS S1 and AS Resurrection rang up together 3 times. Only once was I given Resurrection at 50% off.

I also had AS S1 and :br: Vexille rang up at the same time, and they wouldn't give me Vexille for 50% off.

That's funny. I was afraid that the entire section would be ransacked because the sale started Sunday and I didn't go until Monday.

As it turns out, I didn't need to worry. When I went back the following Thursday nearly everything was gone.
Must have been a bunch of non-Mormons.

You're in for a heck of a movie. Just finished watching it a few minutes ago. I picked up the one copy of it my Best Buy had, it was the Collector's Edition too!:D:D:D
 
It technically doesn't come out till the 17th but some stores get it early. My BB that wasn't having the sale had it out a week before the sale started. Once it started though it was gone.
 
Found "Dead Space - Downfall" from Manga (It takes place before the Video Game), in the Horror Section at 14.99, and it wouldn't discount, so I went to the Kiosk, and looked it up, printed the description, which showed anime as the genre and the cashier had no prob, and gave us the 50% off. So far the Florida City Best Buy, has been the least problematic for us yet.
 
Yeah, I called the 1-888 number and cancelled Berserk. Snagged it instore for 11.99 after coupon. The packaging sucks, but I do agree with the cover art, pretty nice.

It's also showing Princess Tutu as being instock at other stores, but if I try to do an instore pickup, it shows as full price. >< Hopefully one of the sales stores gets this in.

Yumeria. This is obviously a highly fan serviced anime, and I'm wondering if that's all it has going for it, or does it actually have a decent story and is an okay show? Fan service-wise, it looks pretty packed.. So how good is the show?

Just though I'd ask because I saw the complete collection for $15.

I've been watching my copy of School Rumble that I picked up at Best Buy, and I have to say you guys were right... it's pretty hilarious. Now I just need to find a deal on Season 2 Part I.

Season 2 is not quite up to par with Season 1. It is still funny, but it really falls off, especially the second half.
 
Hmm...I went to Best buy to pick up three items, only one being an anime title and came back with six anime titles. I was suprised at seeing some new titles.

I don't get why people seem to dislike Divergence Eve. If you're into sci-fi then I think it's well worth watching, and maybe watch twice to understand all that happens and the technical jargon and space/time theories being brandished about. It has a good cast of characters, a dark spooky mood, liked the industrial(?)music in the show and j-pop credit ending and opening ones and the show ends on an touching high point.

That's about all it has going for it. Though I will admit I liked some of the characters. The dream world part of the story is plot device for the characters to have a story with but that's about it.

I tried using two coupons today for Deathnote and Kino's Journey, and they ended up only using one, and for the videogame I was buying; Even when the coupon said "Except for video games". Was kind of strange, but she said she couldn't on the anime because they were already on sale.

Atleast I got $3 off..Heh.

Moni-moni-moni. I could not get past episode 4 of it. I did not find it funny despite it being a comedy harem anime, wbich I love. It is mild ecchi (fan service) with lots of sexual tension situations which becomes very old quickly. It's about some guy that meets random annoying girls (the definition of harem anime). He can go to an alternate universe with the girls where he has to "recharge" them up so they can fight as winged-suit girls against some bad force that threatens to do something and blah blah blah. It's supposed to parody battle magical girl shows like Sailor Moon and most of the ecchi comes from the transformations or their constant annoying play flirting with the main guy. None of the characters came off as likable and the main guy is a bit of an arrogant jerk.

One of the girls can only say "Moni", which gets annoying after the first minute, but I think what turned me off the most is that they had too much sexual moe in it and the older girls rarely got to do anything as the younger brats kept hogging the screen time. It was more about their flirting and constantly ripping on the guy for being such a pervert than any real story at all. I'm a fan of comedy harem anime, but this one really did not work for me, and I really would not recommend it even at $15.00. Perhaps it gets better on disc 2, but I really did not feel like bothering to find out.

fairyland's description of the show is spot-on. If that sounds like your cup of tea, the show doesn't deviate at all in the later episodes. I can't recommend it for $15 either.

If you want to see just how much fanservice some particular anime have, a good resource is
anime-fanservice.org. It doesn't have every series, but there's quite a few, and judging by the caps of Yumeria there, it's not as fanservicy as it may first appear, and the transformation sequences are more tame than I'd expect.

I netflixed Divergence Eve, and I thought the fanservice was sub-par despite all the great official art and the great ending theme. I also thought the battles just looked really crummy, so I couldn't sit through more than two or three episodes. I think that for fanservice, Aika R-16 Virgin Mission is a good deal for $11, and that's what I'm going back to get. It just revels in it.

All ADV titles complete collection re-release from August - now or later is not thinpack box set. Just like Bandai Anime Legend Complete Set and I hated that ugly multi-case :( still tempting to pick up few cheap set !!!!

Honestly, that's what sold me on the show- it was oddly refreshing to have a harem comedy with a male lead whose reaction to Is not ... but

Aside from that- yes, entirely forgettable standard harem antics, along with a test in paitence for mone-mone-mo-ne. (I liked Mone, but that's just me.)

Yeah, I just did it yesterday. Just make sure you know what the prices should be since some of them don't show up as 50% off for whatever reason.

I went for the final time to my BB. I used the kiosk this time, and damn did i find a lot. My biggest steal was Rurouni Kenshin Box Set 3 for $13 (retails for $80+), but the problem now is finding the first two. They never seem to be on sale. Full list:

I wanted the DBZ sets, but they were around $17 each for most of them, and i hit my $250 limit spending what i did. They also had robotech complete series for $37 and raxpholer (i can't remember how to spell it) for $58, but they were too high for me. As for the in-store supply, there was basically nothing. Air Gear was $25 and Jyu-Oh-Sei was $22, but i passed. I think i'm good for a long time now :).

I'll decide what I'm going to return and post here, in-case someone wants it. For sure, the Count Of Monte Cristo Series. 60 is too much IMO , even though I'd like to keep it.
Also, I picked up the FMP 1+2 season, and the disc is lose. They all we're like that. Anyone know if that's Normal?

Definitely return Gankutsuou (Count of Monte Cristo) for $60.

Rightstuf has it for $49.99 and that is the original Geneon release with a very nice looking artbox.

FMP 1 + 2 season loose discs are definitely not normal. Loose disc in any DVD set are never normal.

All of the copies I've been able to find have a loose disk. I tried to switch it out, but I have yet to find a set that doesn't make noise when you shake it.

Kenshin Box Set for $13 (plus tax?) would be superb but unfortunately these Anime Works alpha casing (a.k.a. Bandai's Anime Legend sets) are awful. I grabbed the first and second season during BestBuy.com's thanksgiving sale. All disc were scratched. Many of the disc were loose. The exterior case was damaged as well. Best Buy gave me my money back.

If you don't mind damaged product at a stellar price, then $13 is definitely a steal.
 
Anyone able to find 5 centimeters per second on the kiosk? I couldn't for the life of me - But I did pick up Love Hina The Complete Series - it's on backorder :(

I missed out on the love/hate discussion for Divergence Eve, but is this the one where it's about a girl who somehow messed up on taking her career exam and she's tossed out of the rich futuristic neighborhood and now has to try to struggle in the poor slum area and takes a job as a bounty hunter cop/detective or whatever? I loved that one, even though I only seen disc one of it because it reminded me of the cheesy 70s science fiction movies that I love (Logan's Run). Or is this one about a harem of girls training to be space pilot fighters? I did not care for that one too much. I am looking on wiki and their description could be either show. Either way I remember both having the women with huge knockers, which is why I confuse the two quite easily.

Regardless of which set it is, I will never consider loose disc as normal. During its assembly, I'm quite certain the purpose is to keep the disc secured to the hub. Otherwise, what's the point of having these center hubs. If it was normal, they probably just throw the pressed discs in a grocery bag and ship them out. :)

Being a person who doesn't like loose disc (or disc floaters) on account of the fact the likelihood of visible scratches will be present, I would certainly try to find a set in better condition. There's bound to be a set that's in perfect condition.

Divergence Eve is the latter, but now I'm interested in the other anime you're describing.
