Man, if Sony USA is gonna deny all these title then they should just say to hell with region-encoding for future systems. That way people can play what THEY want not what they are told.

very true. i'm seriously considering modding my ps2 just for the import fighters. no one should hold back mark of the wolves or the last blade series from us.

I have Last Blade 1 and 2 for Neo-Rage but I want to get the Dreamcast version of Last Blade 2 when I find it.

it's out on the ps2, but japan only ( and with online play too  )

I wish I didn't hear that. PS2 has a serious lack of online fighting games here in the states and to hear that is just make me sad that Sony of America is stingy about approving the release of 2-D fighters. How could they green light Capcom Fighting Evolution and not these great SNK games.

Nowadays I'm REALLY kicking myself for not buying game like Last Blade 2, MotW, and KOF Evolution for DC when they were like 10 bucks at Best buy >_
Neo Geo Battle Colosseum has a gang of new features, and it is online as well... :(

Like 12 new chars or so I hear.
I'm sure we'll see it on X-Box later in 2006.

Out of curiousity, were there any extra characters in the home versions of MvC2 or CvS2 that weren't in arcades? I know that SFA3 at home had Guile, but what about those two?

Nope, none at all.

been playing for a few hours...it's been a blast getting caught up with the many changes made to the game. it's so damn fast and brutal, I can't believe it. You can tell they put most of their time and energy into the gameplay this time around. my only complaint is the hair clipping ;)
anyway, I'm gonna hop online in a half hour or so..
So does the DOA4 2 on 2 team battles online allow you to play on the same team on the same X-Box?
yep.

certified cheap!!

played DoA4 today here in Puerto Rico. I'm actually on my cousin's computer (which not surprisingly has a bunch of pron lying around on it...). It's not as impressive as I was hoping it to be, but still fun. I'm sure 90% of the improvements were the online modes, but I may be wrong.

I only want a 360 for this game, but it's not enough to make me buy one...

one minor complaint I have is that all the characters that have had great costumes in past games now have oddly or just bad clothing, and the characters that use to have bad clothing actually look better... ???

damn....can't remember the last I was up till 3 playing a game  well, doa4 has blown away my expectations. Ultimate has been so completely bland for the past 6 months and this is just what I needed. here's my minireview:

to really understand the changes you'd have to have played the other games, but in general, it's a much tighter and more aggressive game, with all the old reliable safeguards removed, and many moves rearranged and tons of new ones added. the different stuns you can put your opponent into make for a lot of interesting set ups. the game just punishes the hell out wasted moves, which I love. it feels kinda tekken-ish in that sense, kinda like once you hit the ground in a corner in tekken, you're screwed, if your opponent knows what he is doing(from my noob perspective.) I can't wait to see how this game will be played in a couple months.

online is exactly the same, besides the lobby, zack's market, and the amount of people a room can hold. Story mode is quite entertaining, though I doubt I'll revisit it much now that I've unlocked all I can from it. the story is more comprehensible and cohesive this time. you see one story from all the character's perspectives, apart from a few side stories, and you play through them all to get the big picture. of course, it all ties together with helena's ending, which was pretty awesome (even for someone like me who doesn't care about game stories that much.) Mad props to team ninja for putting a lot of effort into tying the doa story together. Doubt there wll be another doa game after it though...there's been rumors about that and the ending is very conclusive.

DoA4 is an improvement, but IMO, not as much as I hoped... fuzzy gaurd is still in... I like how you can charge some throws now... the counter/reversal issue still plays a huge role, but it's no problem if you know how to punish it(IE Hi-C throw).

But it's fun playing it on a stick lol.

Picked up DOA yesterday. Didnt get a chance to play it until today, but its defenitly the best in the series. The final boss sucks though and is cheap, but that is expected. It's harder to pull off counters now which makes the game a lot more fun to me. It serperates button mashers and pepole that know what there doing. Im unlocking all the charchters now (you have to beat the story mode with each guy). Some people are complaing the AI is hard, but it hasnt been a problem so far. They give you a decent challebeg on normal though. I havent tried Live yet, probably momnday ill be up and playing. If anyone wants to play my tag is XSOLBadguyX.

Like everyone ele I got my hands on DOA4 today. I was playing online and did pretty good, I surprised myself. Most mayches I played had no lag which felt great, the way a fighter should be played. Still it's what I expected, not a big change, still plays the same with minor improvments. Very fast, and still a bit button mashy for my tastes.

so in other words DOA4 is like DoAU + a dash of tekken + better online?

I still think itagaki needs to go for a little more realism with the characters... something closer to the new rumble roses for the 360... Sadly that looks slightly more interesting to me than DOA4 (and yes, it is way more shallow)

not really. you can't sum it up that simply, though of course most people will since the series has such a stigma attached to it (especially from tekken fans, ahem  ) Ultimate is doa2...this game is a sequel to 3. once people stop playing like ultimate online and get into the new system, it'll be pretty hot. right now it's a bore online...even the AI on Very Hard is more fun to fight :)

definitely agree about the graphics. it seems obvious that they rushed the game out after getting the gameplay down. it's pretty unpolished for a Team Ninja game...especially the hair and detail on the character models-- they could've added a couple thousand more polygons and kept the same style, but I'm sure the pressure was on. Can't wait to see their first game developed entirely on the final dev kit. it's too bad they won't be making anymore fighting games this gen, but they went out with a blast.

As primarily a Tekken player... I don't think any of Tekken has been added at all. Sure moves hit on the floor now(but that should have been fixed long ago as it was sooo annoying seeing limbs go through opponents on the floor)... I'd say it's more of it's own flavor the way they added the new things. The oki in DOA4 is not like Tekken oki in terms of attacking the enemy while grounded.

Granted the depth is still nowhere near Tekken or VF as most of the moves are useless, especially online.

But it's a lot more fun than DoA3 and DOAU thus far...

yeah, previews completely overplayed the ground attacks...then some guy previewing the game at doacentral was talking about 50% damage combos on the ground...maybe if you fall and put down your controller for the rest of the match that might happen.

I wish you could grab while they're stunned, that would make grabing more effective, but maybe cheaper. Throws always seem to be a chore to connect. Plus unlike Tekken and VF there really isn't any move that's insanely hard to pull off. All the moves are fairly simple to do. Compare the chain grabs from DOA to Tekken. That's not nessacaraly a bad thing.

Who do you guys use? Bass and Jan Lee are my best, and I'm wanting to train more with Brad.

My Doa 4 characters are Zack and prob either Eliot or Tina as my second choice with Bayman as my third. I am loving how Zack has been updated I have a so much better mix up game with him now. He feels almost like a hybrid of Bryan and Steve to me which can't be bad.

If you think they will reverse while stunned... you should throw, that way it'll be a Hi-Counter throw... that's the only situation in which a throw would connect out of stun state.

I've been whoring Hayate on XBL :)

Actually, I still think Tekken throws aren't cheap... now SCIII throws are cheap as hell!

I see what ur saying apossum.. sorry for my "tekken" missconceptions of DoA4. I love the series, but I have a hard time liking it allways. I say Itagaki will do justice on the 360 when he does Ninja Gaiden 2 or DoA XBV... but until then it's super shallow boob fest Rumble Roses Double XX for me...

I don't think Tekken throws are cheap... they all can be broken... wheras in DoA command throws can not be broken and do modified damage during situations, so there is a bigger risk/reward involved in DoA.

In Tekken throws can be sidestepped/ducked/backdashed/and broken. And punished accordingly.

At least in DR, long range throws will track 100% now. That's a good thing. Especially for the characters that have weak tracking ability.

back in miami i just got TRU's darkstalkers for psp from a trade, so once I ge back on friday I'll set some time with it...

hola 1111111!

... dont know what to say...? my cousins here are playing tons of Tekken 5 and SCIII but I try and not play since it's too easy for me to beat them... unfair....

Tekken throws can be done while the opponent is in mid combo. Maybe cheap is to strong of a word, but you know what I mean.

Brad is awsome, I think I'll pick up a copy of DOA 3 just to train with him. Also the endings are done very well (haven't seen them all yet), but what's up with Kasumi's ending. I makes no sense. I you haven't seen it cheack it out.

the throw situation in 4 is great, compared to ultimate, which has been a throw fest for a while. throws were just wayyyyyy too safe in that game. I've landed like less than 10 safe throws thus far in 4...seems like the grapplers have more throw-punishable attacks, but everyone else beats them with anything.

I'm mostly using Hitomi and 15-hit(or more) re-stun combos with kokoro against spartan noobs! I get a lot of satisfaction out of hearing the kids cry "cheap" when I fuck up their precious spartan with a japanese schoolgirl

on a side note, the new lobby system was a waste of time. they should've kept it simple and functional.

i wish it would come out on ps2 :(
I got a chance to play the game a few days ago. Here are some of my impressions:

-Ash feels much slower this year. Good chunk of lag on his fireballs, plus he can be knocked out of his qcf, qcf+p super much easier now. back+B isn't comboable from cr. B anymore.
-K' feels a lot slower as well. There's more lag on his Trigger plus the follow-ups.
-Oswald is awesome. Great rushdown and pressure character. He's easily punished on missed stuff, though. Love his sprite and the character overall.
-Eiji has got some easy stuff. Jumping D, Close D into anything is his basic B&B. Has next to no recovery time on most of his moves. His standing E comes out very quick. Easy Dream Cancel from his qcb, hcf+k super.
-Shingo can finally combo stuff into and from his fwd+B.
-Jumping A into hcf+k won't work anymore for Clark. Close C [1 hit], fwd+B, hcf+p into any of the follow-ups is comboable again this year. His LDM still does a ton of damage. With knockback attacks back, Clark's got a great pressure game with his jumping E. His new super sucks.
-Maxima is much improved over his '03 self. Faking his hcb+p gives the potential for good mind games.
-Although toned down, Duolon is still good.
-Shen's best game is still pure rushdown. qcf, qcf+k will now hit after super cancelling from his qcf+p, even if it's part of a combo. Great damage with it, too.
-Terry feels a lot like his '03 self. Being able to break out of his sweep with df+C is nice. Power Charge comes out slower now and won't combo from his close D(!?).
-Ralf's hcf+D Backbreaker still has autoguard on it. hcf+B Backbreaker is his old-school one and can be comboed into.
-I couldn't remember shit with Ramon, so I pretty much got my ass kicked as him.
-Kyo getting his fireball back makes him good at any range now. He's got plenty of options to link into his qcf+C chain.
-The music kicks ass.
-The backgrounds, for the most part, look awesome. Some are pretty empty and dull, though.

Can't wait for the port on this one, whenever it may be. Having to drive an hour just to play it in the arcades sucks.

Anyone been playing the PS2 port of Neo Geo Battle Coliseum? I haven't tried out too many of the characters other than the KOF/FF/AoF/SS cast, but I'm really digging Kisarah.

I know we were on the subject of one hit kills in fighting games awhile ago, but I just remembered that Hokuto No Ken(Fist of the North Star) has death moves in it. :)

The old one right? I know a new one's coming out, made by Sammy with Hi-Res, YEAH!

I'm gonna butt in with a Capcom vs SNK 2 question. I notice that there are two different strategy guides out for the game - one for CvS 2 and one for CvS 2 EO. Now I despise the dreaded "EO-ism" just like everyone else, but does the guide for the EO version benefit from being slightly newer? Or are the guides pretty much identical, with some useless info on EO-ism tacked on to the newer version?

Like I said, EO-ism is dumb, but if the guide for it is just better written overall, or more complete, I'll look for a cheap used copy of it somewhere.
I believe both of the guides are garbage. If you want some CVS2 help please visit www.shoryuken.com !
Couldn't have said it better myself. A lot of the guys on the forums are complete assholes, but they know their shit when it comes to fighters. They really helped me step up my game in Third Strike, among other games.

markman-- have you had a chance to play Fist of the north star (or heard any impressions)? haven't heard thing 1 about that game yet...besides that it's made by Arc System Works.

edit/brag: i was ranked 420 for a brief minute in doa4 today. as a former weed smoker, this is amusing  what the hell did they do with the ranking system though...I got my 100 wins achievment, but my record got reset, so i have about 40 on my new record. they need to work this shit out...and how do the top people have 4 to 5 million points. isn't there a simple "delete" function for this kind of crap?

speaking of which, online just sucks for doa4. I don't get a lot of lag, the game plays well for the most part but I'd be more than happy to help team ninja out with a little list of things they forgot to do while rushing the hell out of this game. kinda funny that everything but the gameplay was a letdown with this one.

Apossum, I haven't had a chance to play it, but I'm going to be going to Japan in the middle of the year and hope to learn some of it while there. I have been following the game... here are some links to gameplay matches/vids:

And here's a tournament ranking match:

Very GG ish...

I need some advice on what character to try to work on being able to use proficiently in VF4, the original for now. I'm tired of Jacky as he's all I've used since I've gotten the game so I want to use someone that's much different in their style but is about the same in diffculty to utilize. Any ideas?
