Hulu Plus Coming to xbox 360

$7.99/mo seems steep, for me, since the only thing that allures me is the Criterion Collection...

It works great and streams HD video without a hitch. I watch Cleveland Show, American Dad and Family Guy. My girlfriend watches Private Practice, Grey's Anatomy and Glee. We both watch Modern Family and 30 Rock.

So I guess it's a great deal for us.

I've never seen so much that I hate all in one sentence.
I'll gladly take the free trial but I'm not sure why anyone would pay for this. Half of the stuff I looked at says "web only" most of their content is basic television which anyone can watch on their tv for free anyways.
Also it can act as a DVR to see stuff that's been missed.

If Chuck was on there, I would buy it right now. I will extend the trial to 1 month though.

hulu is on a decline imo. i just dont see much content added anymore other than the crappy prime time shows no one watches on the air either. No one really cared about that tho because the shows are free. but to pay 7$ just to watch it on the xbox i just think is silly, i dont really consider it premium content lol

Hulu is okay for it's anime. i watch dbz, one piece, (use to do naruto but i found a much better site for it), legend of legendary heros, high school of the damned, ect.. however as of late i been watching more anime on netflicks. most of the anime there is hd and dubbed. on netflicks it's just more like how they do tv shows there, keeping up more with the dvd cycle than air cycle. Hulu still has the edge on animie in some ways(well unless netflicks gets around to releasing a better quality version) but i dont think anime is net only anyways lol.

overall id pass. i thi nk the whole Plus thing needs soem rethinking. hulu imo would be better off just releasing the app for free on the consoles because it'd earn em more advertising revenue. :)

I agree on passing on Hulu, BUT DONT pass on the free week

I neither have Netflix nor Hulu, but seems to me Netflix has so much more for the same $$$, so why would they go against each other on a console? lol

I'll just use this next week watching a couple shows I missed this season on my on demand like 30 Rock and The Office. Couple other things were web only so blah to that, don't like streaming from computer. Already have and love Netflix so don't see the need for another thing to pay for.

What do you watch on TV then?

If you are really into Criterion, then Hulu is worth it. They've put 250+ of them up so far, and $8 a month is much better than paying $20-$40 a movie.
i did'nt like the ads if am paying for something i don't want to see any ads
Yeah i am unimpressed.

I dont want to pay for shitty content and watch commercials throughout it.

netflix is the way to go.

For what is worth there are less and shorter commercials. A hour prime time show takes 42-46 minutes to watch versus a hour on network tv. I keep going back and forth on Hulu plus. Maybe I will try the trial and than decide. I watch hulu on my 360 almost every day and haven't paid for cable or dish for 3 years now. The only thing I miss is live sports on espn but I found a work around with espn3 (although TWC are dicks and won't let internet only plans stream espn3 so I use a family members login info) My TV/Entertainment budget is $8.99 a month for Netflix and I could probably drop that to stream only since I have the same damn disc sitting around for the last month.

I love Hulu Plus. Sure, it sucks that there are commercials for a paid service but how is cable any different? There is a plethora of content available and being able to watch new episodes of Colbert and the Daily Show make it worthwhile for me.

My suggestion would be to find someone you trust and share your Hulu streaming with them in exchange for their Netflix. I let my mom use my Hulu, she let's me use her Netflix. Netflix and Hulu for 7.99 and I don't even miss cable--except SportsCenter.

I am loving it so far, I used it to watch My Name Is Earl and saw no commercials. I also watched Fantasy Factory and did see a few commercials on that but it's still a decent value for the price.

I, personally, have a couple examples why Hulu could be useful. It would be handy for catching up on shows you got into late or shows that have a conflict on your DVR. For me this year, I dropped the Office and opted for CSI and Nikita which were all on at the same time. This gives me a chance to go back and see all of the office before next season.

I also got into Community over Christmas but obviously missed the current season. It would be great if I could drop $8 and get caught up on that one as well if Hulu's selection didn't blow chunks.

Hulu+... great idea, poor execution.

For what it's worth, I've watched a few things on the 360 so far(squeezing in the aforementioned Office and The Confession during the trial) and I didn't mind the commercials as much as I thought I would. All I've seen are either a single :30 second or :10 second commercial during the same breaks a 2-3 minute commercial would be on air. Hardly worth complaining about. However it would be nice if they used that revenue to lure in more networks and shows to grow into a worthwhile service.

I'm not trying to demean you or anything, if you like it then you like it. I just can't stand the whole seth mcfarlane craze. I've given his shows countless chances when nothing else was on and I just don't get it. It's not funny at all and all of his shows are just repetitions of ideas. I mean family guy during it's first two years were genuinely a different kind of what was on tv and somewhat enjoyable but then it all started becoming the same and just isn't funny anymore. They stretch to far for jokes that aren't even jokes half the time.

As for what I watch that's currently on the air, my favorites are parks and recreation, community, futurama and it's always sunny in Philadelphia.

I'm too big into sports to every give up my cable/satellite, so I can't see ever paying for this personally. Nice feature to have for people who don't need/want cable/satellite.

when I do the 1 week trial, I'm going to try my best to catch up on all the Naruto Shippuden episodes...watching them on cable is painful. There's a commerical every 4 minutes and the commericals are 5minutes long then before you know it the show is over roll credits.

If I were king of Fox Television, I would place Futurama in Family Guy's slot immediately. I do like American Dad, however. They tend to have good story lines without the retarded cut-aways that often go on too long. But I still watch all of them just as I do the Simpsons even though they are terrible. The first 5 minutes tend to be okay.

But $8 bucks a month to have full seasons of all those dumb cartoons on demand is great, both on Netflix and on Hulu. I'll probably watch current season shows this month and then cancel. Once the new shows start up in the Fall, I might subscribe again.

We live in an apartment facing away from all TV transmitters. With HD the signal is all or nothing and no matter what antenna we try, it's nothing. We can't mount any antennas, obviously.

this is cool for people who don't have TV services, but I already get all this for free on demand with my cable company, with no commercials.

Ah, to be king of fox. I would instantly renew King of the Hill as well. Simpsons has more than run its course. I would have been much happier had it died when it stopped being funny. It's a shame when good show's are milked past it's prime.

I might have to give American Dad another shot. The more and more I contemplate actually paying for hulu + the more aggravated I get when I'm searching for shows and see web only on everything. If all the web only content was able to stream on the 360 I would probably pay the monthly fee.

What is all this talk about Web only? Only things I have found on Hulu Plus that are web only are Attack of the Show and WCG Ultimate Gamer. Only complaint I have is Chuck not being on Hulu Plus at all and currently active shows only having the current season available.

The movie selection is horrible and the worst i've seen. Lot of stuff is "web only" as people have pointed out. I signed up for the 1 month trial anyways to catch up on a few shows. 30 rock, Reno 911 and finally finished watching the office.

Is there a dedicated website that keeps tracking of the newest added content and coming soon content as well? I know there's one for Netflix.

a lot of the non-mainstream stuff is web only. The thing I don't get is that Netflix offers more content with no ads. That's why i dont understand the ads on Hulu Plus. I could see that on regular hulu, but + makes no sense. Then again, Hulu isn't as big as Netflix obviously. But to be honest I'm considering getting it for a few months, only because of the obscure Criterion stuff they have. omg.

You're not digging deep enough then. Just about everything that's not on netflix that I want to watch is web only on Hulu+ Not to mention even for some shows it will show the current season but when you try to watch older seasons of the same show you get web only.

Yeah, the selection is ass. I was bored Friday and pulled this together. It's my entire TiVo Season Pass list cross checked with Hulu:

These shows are not on Hulu+ and/or relegated to 1-2 episodes on Hulu Free(i.e. won't work with the xbox):

Fringe
C.S.I.
Hawaii Five-0
Chuck
Big Bang Theory
Smallville
Community
Mr. Sunshine
Human Target
Happy Endings
How I Met Your Mother
Burn Notice
White Collar
The Walking Dead
Men of a Certain Age
Sanctuary
Mythbusters
Sports Show with Norm Macdonald
Phineas & Ferb
Fish Hooks

Only 4 showed up on Hulu+, albeit with limitations:

Modern Family - 5 current episodes (all s2 episodes on Hulu Free)
Friday Night Lights - 4 current episodes (all of s.4, and episodes 11-15 of s.1 ) *should be noted it's already on DVD and kinda pointless for this one.
Glee - complete current season
The Office - complete current season

So out of 24 Primetime(more or less) shows there are a whopping two shows that have all the current episodes available on H+. Granted Hulu is basically 3 channels and even then there are still shows on those channels that are M.I.A.
Complaining about free stuff...

...I love the internet, it really gets me thru my day
HuluPlus is not free. Free for a week or a month, perhaps, but it's a paid subscription. Mind you, I haven't tried it yet but let's call a spade a spade, as they say.

Its free right now, and I guarantee you the ones complaining were NEVER going to pay for it in the first place, but are complaining that there free service for a week doesnt have the show they want

Excuse me, I fully intended to pay for Hulu when it hit(long before a free week was on the table), but thanks for the "guarantee." As posted above though, after going through what I watch compared to what Hulu offers, it's clear that it's not a match for me.

If I get into a show mid-season like I did Community last year, and Hulu actually offers that show, I might consider it, but right now the selection is awful... for me.

There are a ton of netflix subscribers in this thread, what makes you think we wouldn't jump on Hulu+ if it was actually a good service? I don't think anyones complaining about getting a trial for free. In fact I was planning on subscribing until I saw how little content they actually had.

And yes, seeing as how Hulu+ is a paid subscription once the trial is over I don't see how it's wrong for anyone to come in and voice their opinions on it.

Good job at making a generalized, dumbass opinion of us all just because we don't agree with your view.

Besides the weak selection, it seems like one out of every five or six times, it kicks me back to the menu after playing a commercial...then makes me watch an ad again when I start it back up.

Very disappointed with this, was looking forward to watching the Simpsons only to find its web only! Other than that like others have said the selection is just weak.

I would be totally down to pay for this if there was nothing "web only" if everything on hulu plus was available to stream, I'd be so down.

I added some series to my queue, but they are not placed in folders. I have every X-Files ep appearing separately. As if I am really going to scroll through every ep to reach other things in my queue.

I've also noticed bugs with not being able to resume a previously watched episode from where I left off at least half of the time, even immediately after I back out of the video it will make me start from the beginning and there are no skip options so it's all on fast forwarding.

I watched a good bit of this today, I love it! I wish it was cheaper, though, at $5 a month I would definitely take the plunge. I watched for probably 2-3 hours today and never ran into a problem.

Yeah, forgot to mention that as well. Same here.

Lobby the producers of your favorite show to put it on Hulu Plus. Say that you will not watch the show until you can watch it your way and on-demand.

On one hand, Hulu Plus sucks for not having your favorite show. On the other hand, you keep watching your favorite show under the old, tired system whether you have cable or bunny ears. That's fine, but vote with your wallet or eyeballs and things will change.

I don't subscribe to cable TV anymore. There are some shows I don't watch anymore because I can't get them legally any other way, but I want things to change and that is the price I am willing to pay.

Producers have nothing to do with it. It's the networks and studios that own said shows. They don't have a stake in Hulu therefore their shows aren't on Hulu.

How easy is it to cancel Hulu? Similar to Netflix?

Looks like you have to enter your CC info to get the free month so they can charge you when you forget to cancel.

yeha i second this.
anyone find how to cancel ?

I looked around quickly and half assed to be honest :)

thanks,

Less content then the web version, still has ads and they want you to pay?

No.

Meanwhile Netflix gets better and better. The only perk Hulu has is newer tv shows but since 90% of what is on tv sucks now, I don't feel like I am missing out on anything.

Some of the shows are web only because the studios and TV networks want you, when watching TV, to actually watch the shows on TV or through a cable/sat provider. That's where they make their big dollars (advertising revenue, etc.) and it's going to stay that way. If you're on your PC, that's one thing, but they're likely to block some of the programming for devices that go to your TV like an Xbox, PS3, etc.

This is unlikely to ever change IMO unless the TV networks make specific deals with, say, Microsoft, etc. Other than that, Hulu's available "pay content" is likely to be limited on something like the Xbox or a streaming media device like the Roku.

Its likely the studios contracts with their advertisers; they have to guarantee that whenever the content is delivered to a TV, their ad will be shown.

not a single decent movie (that I'm interested in... lots of old black and white stuff from way before my time I'm guessing, lol). was able to catch up on House at least. but yeah, there's just not enough here to warrant a subscription. they need some movies, netflix always has several movies worth watching.

 It's a TV service. I don't see why anyone would go into this thinking they would get a decent movie selection. They have some, but that's clearly not their focus.
