I committed a CAG sin.

CAGiversary!
I may have to give up my view of myself as a CAG. I did something that is a cardinal rule not to do. I haven't done it in a long time, and I tried not to, but alas, I failed.

I PAID FULL PRICE FOR GTAIV!!! $64 and some change after tax.

I just did it yesterday, I called around and nobody had a used copy, I couldn't find any coupons or deals, and I just caved in. I was thinking of using a CC coupon for $15 off a purchase of $100 or more but I didn't wanna spend that much.

I couldn't wait any longer. Everyone on my friendslist was playing it and constantly sending a barrage of invites.

I'm so ashamed; am I a bad CAG?

With a 10% off Gamestop Coupon coupon floating around, and the $10 off a 360 Game coupon for Target, you have sinned.

Just not as much as the people who payed the full $90 for Wiifit.

No, you're just a drama queen.

Just kidding of course.;)

I buy games full price from time to time... sometimes it's worth the wait for a game to drop in price, other times it's not. The way I see it, as I pay less than half the retail price for 80% of the games I buy, me buying couple of pull price games just evens things out.

Ahh bad timing. I have a new copy (not sealed) as well as a NEW copy (sealed). I would have given you a deal :( Any other CAGs want my copy of GTA IV for the 360 let me know :) I'm looking for either Paypal/trade. I just made a thread about it ^_^

By the way, you're not a bad CAG :) you were just under the spell of GTA IV. It's totally worth the full price admission anyway so don't feel guilty about it. Just better luck next time!

I pay full price alot of times these days due to wanting to have the limited edition version of things, or the latest game.

GTA4 was one, the next will be MGS4.

It's all good as long as you feel it was worth your money. :)

Yep - paid full price too. Some games are worth it. Next one - Little Big Planet. Probably Gears 2...Killzone 2....oh, God - make it stop!!!

Well if it was a shitty game with no free roaming mayhem features , I would say you sinned big time to pay full price.

If you still feel ashamed, then you must do the following to get forgiveness.

1. You must watch the vg thread for coupons daily.

2. You must kneel before the mighty Strell Darth Daphatty and kiss his pinky ring.

3. You must give a 10 dollar BB gift card to ITDEFX every time you sin in real life (whether it's lying or stealing or whatever) :D

4. You must play the shit out of GTA4 until your hands bleed.

Only then thou shall be forgiven!

A bunch of people here buy quite a few games for full price, they are the true sinners. Since you made a topic about it I'd assume you very rarely buy anything for full price (but still probably more games than I do), so this one sin can be forgiven.

How is $90 for a game that will be hard to find and possibly have good resell value be a bad deal?

I don't see a problem with buying games at full price if it is a great game. I got MGS4 LE on pre-order, since I'm a sucker for LE games that include a soundtrack. I'm also getting it since I want my first ps3 game to be something great.

I try to limit my buying of games at full price to a few conditions:

is an Atlus game
is an RPG ( or other type game with a lot of hours of content)
is an LE or CE that includes a soundtrack
is a game that being produced in limited quantity
is considered a great game worth full price
is being produced by a game company I want to support

I try to meet a few of those when I buy at full price. I got both SMT:DDS games at full price. Those are two of my favorites for the ps2 and won't be getting rid of. I also got a nocturn LE at full price. I haven't played the game yet, but I love the soundtrack that came with it. I need to play that.

I also paid full price for a Collectors Edition for 360 on release day. Some things are worth it and this has been one of them for me.

Well two Targets near me got restocked on the SE of GTA IV. I know of 6 360 and 3 PS3 SE between the two stores sitting in the game cases.

Eh... I sometimes pay full price for games, as long I don't pay tax. I love mom and pop stores, they figure out the price and when taxes come along, I end up paying regular retail.

I don't really remember paying taxes on a full price game except that one time I was a kid and begged my mom to buy Pokemon Gold.

I was referring to wii fit

Ha good responses! I lol'd at the drama queen remarks possibly true. I just felt like I betrayed the CAG in me, peerpressure+GTA4 won.

I had no idea about the target/gamestop coupons. Oh well.

I don't think you sinned, at least you paid full price for a good game and a game that you wanted and will play and will get many hours of enjoyment out of.

It would be worse if you paid 30$ for a Petz game for the DS or maybe a game that wasn't online and was generally considered to be crap.

Also, the fact that you were able to pay full price for a game means that you saved enough money through CAG to be able to do that heh.

I helped my mom with the costs of it...50/50...

I pay retail once in awhile, but only for games I simply cannot wait for. GTAIV and SSBB were the only two this year, and there probably won't be more than two or three again for the rest of the year.

as a cag.. usually the only time I purchase games are at pawn shops or yard sales.. the majority of my other video game purchases come from goozex or used..

I would say 90 percent of my video game purchases fall under the top catorgories..

the only time that i have felt like I needed a game on the day it was released was GTA4.. the only time i buy brand spakin new games is if they are at an amazing price (like those 60 Percent off at TRU or the 8 dolalr games at CC that one summer.. things like that) or are when I first purchase a new system (you almost always have to buy at least a couple "full price" games when you buy a console.)

EDIT: but what i REALLY wanted to say was.. Limited Editions of games is like being the smartest kid on the retard bus.. its like a who cares doesn't matter isn't worth the extra money for it.

I paid full price (and pre-ordered from friggin' Gamestop) for Portrait of Ruin + the bonus pack.
It was totally worth the $10 markup.

Just think of yourself as being a Honorable person.

(You do realize these companies that make these games for you, get no profit from used games...)

Well, we send a strong message with day 1 full price purchases -- the message is 'we like the game you put out, please make more like it' -- It is up to you if it was worth the extra cost to send it.

Buying stuff used, or after the game gets put on clearance doesn't help small or struggling developers.. it can also kill great studios.. (a-la clover).

I don't see a problem here. As long as it's a game that you want to play and you feel like you must have it now, then by all means buy it at full price. I do this once in awhile for games that I want (Fire Emblem, Persona 3, C&C 3, etc.).

i have a double sin then. limited edition for ps3 and 360. i regret nothing, after 65 hours of gameplay so far ( on a single game) i feel i am really getting my money worth. For me its a personal thing as GTA 3 was the first game i was ever addicted too and spent hours to get the 100% completion, and the way i see it, if we buy new for the good games, the good developers they will go on to make good games

I wouldn't feel too bad about it. I ordered it for $37.99 on Amazon on 5/17 (free shipping and had some gift credit) and apparently because of memorial day it probably won't ship till next week and I'll be lucky to have it by next Friday. Sure you paid full price but at least you can play the game right now. I on the other hand will keep waiting.

I've sinned too. I bought GTAIV for the PS3 before I even HAD the PS3 to play it on. LOL But, I went bright and early the next morning(after staying up all night and going to the midnight release at Wally World and waiting in line for 45 minutes to an hour for my Special Edition copy)and picked up a PS3, came home and FELL ASLEEP.

Of course, this was after I cracked open the SE to see what my $95.21 bought me. I still say it was a HELL of a deal. The lockbox is a hefty item, the duffelbag(which I haven't even opened yet) looked good from the shots I've seen of it, the soundtrack(haven't opened THAT yet either lol), the artbook was pretty cool and the keychain was a heavy piece as well.

Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, the fact that the lockbox has actual KEYS to lock and unlock it.

I then paid $351 and change(after using $70 something in credit from FYE to knock the price down a tad)for my PS3 and didn't even think about doing the meager $30 rebate FYE was offering(which I still have till the end of this month to get all filled out and postmarked by).

So yeah, I'm a double sinner and I'd do it all again, since the GTA series has been one which I've loved from the first time I popped the original into my Playstation.

The next game I'm going to commit the CAG sin of paying full price for, is Mercenaries 2 in late August. I SHOULD be done with the main story of GTAIV by then and with Mercs 2, I can do alot more damage to the game world than in GTAIV. That's my ONLY complaint about GTAIV so far.

There's nothing wrong with paying full price for games - especially for the blockbuster titles that you know will be good and have enough enjoyable gameplay to be worthy of a purchase at release.

I buy full price games all the time. Twilight Princess, for example, was well worth the $50 I paid for it. In gameplay alone, my son and I put a combined 120 hours into that game. Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart are 2 others I also paid full price for a day or 2 after release because they are "have-to-have" games that are more than worth their MSRP.

Now, if you paid full retail for Chicken Shoot, Harry Potter, or some other licensed simultaneous marketed release title, then you might need absolution.

Eh, it's not like there's anything horribly wrong with paying full price on occasion. I buy all my shit new and I don't feel particularly guilty...

I would have paid 60 just for that first night of xbox live. That was they funnesit thing I have ever seen. Every one was still newbies and couldn't drive. Nobody knew where to go. People jumping off roofs and splating on cars being driven by what looked like old ladys. Then seeing a rocket lunching fire truck with water hose going coming down the road was priceless!!!!! ( one driving and two others were on top of fire truck as it drove with rocket lunchers that was cool!) I haven't seen that since!

While I'm going to be paying near full price for MGS4, I still haven't even considered getting GTA4. Look at the last 3 titles. What GS doesn't have 15 of them on the shelf? It's going to be dirt cheap in weeks.
